[Music] okay so in today's video I'm going to show you how to professionally sharpened blades I'm not gonna be using like a whole bunch of fancy stuff or anything to do this I'm gonna use my the gates on my truck or you can use your gates on your trailer we've got a trailer the impact makes it go so much quicker and I have a bigger ratchet here if it's one for some reason that the impact will not pull off the the bolt for the blade I have this just in case and then this is the best thing I've found to scrape the next width I used to use a little roofers five-way tool I don't know where it is anymore but this longer handle and this has a little bit of weight to it this has to be older but this does a really good job really quick and easy to scrape the build up under the deck super important to do if you don't do that you're not getting the lift from the pins on the back here your blade here these actually create lift and pull the grass up so you get a nice flush cut so that's why it's very important that you you know I mean keep your decks clean so why I do it I like to do I personally would just sharpen all my blades at once for all the mowers like it's just batching anything you can do where you got to start and stop if you just start and then do all of it that needs to be done for that week or whatever the time frame is get it all done at once and it's much better than starting and stopping several times throughout the week but the way I do it is I have extra blades I mean I highly recommend having extra blades for your mowers and I like to keep them this in the truck so if you've been to blade or something like that have the tools to take a blade off and put a blade on right in the field if need be boom and go ahead and sharpen these blades these the your sets that I have right here I'm just doing one middle or something to sharpen three blades show you how to do it and then I'm gonna take the motor off take the old blades on straight take the old blades off scrape the deck and then put the new blades on and it's really not time time-intensive of process here so I don't know what the big deal is a lot of guys make it seem like it's a real big deal to show up for their blades but it's very important if you're trying to offer a professional quality service to have sharp blades because dull blades damage the grass and it's gonna look bad I'll get like a hazy white look on top of the grass if the really dull it's just tearing instead of cutting the grass so if you're trying to put off a professional image with with your business very important to sharpen your blades how often do you need to sharpen your blades you might need to do it every day in the spring if you're cutting a lot of grass it may need to be done daily typically we do it every other day over the summer right now we're doing it you know once a week maybe twice a week but just there's a lot of factors what type of grass were cutting how tall is the grass how much grass how many hours are the the mowers getting like a lot of different factors so but I'll be doing to change the blades on a 61 inch d return so these are the blades I'll be putting on the mower right here I highly recommend definitely I I protect whatever you're grinding anything have eye protection and then this is a mask you don't you don't want these metal shavings in your lungs so wear a mask okay common sense but so all we got is a vise grip here anchor down to the bench I'll use the bitch grinder to hit the back side of the blade and the front slide front side I'm used by foreign half-inch angle grinder this is that expensive one from Harbor Freight but I've had so many but the $15 one that sometimes is on sale for like 8 bucks works just fine so this like I said this is this should be a quick process like literally my blade should not stop spinning from when I finished this blade to start sharpening this blade the blades not stop spinning like that's how fast and seamless it should be really I kind of wish I had hearing protection on but oh well I'll be alright my eyes and my lungs are a little more important I think okay so what you're gonna want to do here is you want to keep this angle on the blade as it comes from the factory I believe it's a 30-degree angle but you want to keep that same angle if this angle starts getting too much like this if that's not that's not you know it's not gonna be sharp enough and if if you have it too too acute of an angle I don't know it is just gonna get dull with if it hits any kind of stick or anything you're gonna get a nick in the blade I mean look at these I don't know who use these blades last time but these things are tore up I mean your blades should really never look like that but you know me when you hire employees they just they know they know whatever whatever is in front of them okay so we're gonna get started and we'll see how fast this goes I don't think it's gonna take too too much time [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay so before I go onto the next plane just kind of wanted to explain what I'm doing and what not to do you want to just you want to keep your grinder at that angle it should just be a flat angle it should you should not be going like this and getting a curve you know you should not have a hump in the middle of your angle that that's what my guys were da I let them sharpen the blades for a couple couple months in a road not really checking on them so I thought it was something easy to do and they're all humped like this what is this and I have to sit there and just grind it rind it and get that out you wanted just a nice straight flush angle there so and that's how you get it you just go back and forth go back and forth as many times as it takes if you did have some gouges in there there's a slight one right here I did angle it slightly more in there because I want that sharp but for the most part you just keep it straight and that that's gonna get you the angle you want so we got two more blades to do with knock these out real quick and keep it moving [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay so we got the front the front side angle grind it down the all you want to do is take the fur off the back and I mean you don't want to take much off the back at all but it's gonna hit it really quickly and just sharpen that up clean it up and it'll be good to go not seriously all there is to that you can check it when you're just getting going you can check it but I've done it so many times I know I can just hear it that first one kind of messed up the drill was in my way a little bit but I don't know how way you can see them thing but it's just a nice little ribbon right on the edge good to go okay so now I have these ready ices have these ready so I'm when I'm under the mower I take the old blades off and I put these on one fail swoop no getting up and going down them I like doing stuff efficiently efficiently as possible [Music] you guys prop it up on my gate like that for the parking brake on good to go there's other ways you could have like a chain hoist is one way we've done it in the past and then for the walk behinds which are much lighter and easier to pick up we've actually used a ratchet strap we've lifted from the mower up you just grab it pull it up and get your ratchet straps hanging from the ceiling and then this ratchet a couple of times and keep it up but if it's lower in my overhead down as low as it can go but this gets the job done you need hardly anything to do it so I have a correct socket on my impact and hopefully they normally just come right off no need to break out a big wrench or ratchet or whatever so I do I will need to move the mower to the other side to get the blade on the far right but I can get the middle and this one from right here and also scrape the deck down which is very important to do so if you're doing with the impact there's no need to hold the blades which is this another bonus boom and we're off grab it so there is to it get this out of your way the doll blade does I have put the doll blade back on before but obviously I caught it before I put the mower back on the truck okay ball blades out of the way these snapper decks are really really slick I mean hardly anything gets stuck to them but there is a little bit of buildup you always want to watch your I don't know what you want to call these a baffle or something but this piece that's kind of the outlines where the blades spin you want to get that clean - that right there off of that if it can't if the grass came you know flow through this and get out to the discharge it's gonna cause problems just like having buildup right here but there's this a little bit the X marks x marks really the only other mill where I've ran for any period of time and the the grass cakes up on x mark Dec 10 times worse than this for all you guys are gonna hate on me for a using snapper but I forget laughs saying we've had a camera go down but this all around me the main thing get it off the bottom top of the deck whatever you want to call it and get it off of this stuff I don't spend a whole lot of time like getting these spindles super clean like it's just it's gonna get cake back up on there but if there if there was a decent amount I would certainly certainly knock it off but for the most part I just kind of breeze over them feel them they're fine they're fine okay so once that's done get your nice sharp new blade you know always always when you're using an impact get your bolt started if you did if you just set it in there and then going with the impact that's going in crooked you're gonna mess your threads up and I've had I've had a guy do it I've had a guy do everything so I tapped out one of the spindles on one of these D returns that I have because he didn't he didn't start it like that so as long as you haven't started I get nice and slow going up okay it's snug and I'm hit it that's it that's all I gotta do make sure your fins are up make sure the fins are up on the mower this team that mistake made plenty of times to that's it get it snug pull up for about a half second the blades fine it's not coming off it's never came off on us so all there is to do is go over to the other side do the last blade and that's I have certain blades I didn't it's all good okay so here's our uh here's our discharge right here so they always want to make sure this is as clean as possible well like I said it is the summer too so that helps with not as much rain not cutting as much wet grass and stuff so don't build up as much but I'm telling you I've never seen another mower that doesn't that's a grass just doesn't stick to you like this I mean there's just hardly anything hardly anything on here that's it I said I don't spend a whole lot of time on the spindles it's got a little bit of build up I'm just trying to get it off decently that's it make sure you got your nice nice sharp new blade you're not putting your old one back on get it started make sure it started good nice alright we're snug real quick that's it we're done so that's all there is to sharpening the blades need a bench a vise the impact the correct socket extra set of blades helps angle grinder that's it the bench grinder to knock off the back I mean like I guess that's not even necessary necessary but if you have one go ahead and do it and that's all there is to sharpen blades it's Ryan lawn crack like comment subscribe we really appreciate you watching thanks a lot we hope to see you on another video [Music] [Applause] [Music]
