How to setup and use GitHub with Visual Studio Code [2024]

welcome back to my channel in this tutorial we are going to learn how to set up GitHub with Visual Studio code let's get started with GitHub in Visual Studio code Visual Studio code is a lightweight and free coding editor that many software developers use around the world GitHub a Version Control platform for hosting development projects Visual Studio code provides an integrated GitHub experience that make it easier for us to manage projects from inside the code editor let's authenticate to GitHub through Visual Studio code and access to your GitHub account at first make sure that you have the latest version of Visual Studio code installed on your system and now select the extension icon on the activity bar a visual studio code Now search for this extensions GitHub pull request install this extension and also install GitHub code spaces extension and then install GitHub repositories extension after install these extensions select this icon remote Explorer and then click on sign into GitHub now allow this extension to access your account click here authorize Visual Studio code now select open visually Studio code URL Handler finally allow click on open that's it now your Visual Studio code is connected to your GitHub account now I am going to create a repository at first create a folder on your machine I am going to create a folder on my desktop I'm going to name this folder demo or repo and then open this folder in Visual Studio code select this folder and then open that's it let's create readme.md file into this folder okay now add the following text to the file my case my first GitHub project okay now save this file now I am going to publish this repository to GitHub open source control manager and then select publish to GitHub now select publish to GitHub public to Repository it may take a while okay now select the file and then select ok that's it the project will now be published to GitHub so login to GitHub account and click on repositories tab here you will see now View repository on github.com now I am going to clone an existing repository from Visual Studio code we can clone a repository from GitHub using visual studio code Explorer now I am going to clone an existing repository from Visual Studio code we can clone a repository from GitHub using visual studio code Explorer click on Explorer icon and then select clone Repository option you can clone a repository locally click here and then select clone from GitHub it may take a while now I am going to select a repository after selecting the repository choose a location on your computer where you want the repository to be cloned I am going to store this Repository into my desktop now select as repository destination it may take a while now select opt-in from pop-up that appears so click on open that's it GitHub repository turned successfully like comment and share thank you so much for watching this video
