hi my name is Phil Villarreal I'm the associate category manager for reloading and I'm going to talk today about how to properly set up a resizing Dyke for rifle cartridges what I have here is a seven millimeter Remington Magnum set of dies on the die box it has the shell holder that you will also need to purchase to be able to reload there's a shell holder number four which they're calling for now that we have the proper equipment to start we're going to open the die box read the instructions and set up the die inside the die box is a little instruction manual I'd encourage you to read it get familiar with it I already know how to set up the dice we're going to cut to the chase and explain that here we have the resizing decapping dot as you can see it has a decapping pin the decapping pin should extend past the base of the die no more than 3/16 of an inch as you can see here it's extending quite past that so we're going to reset this real quick you hold on the knurled in and use your crescent wrench or the proper size wrench to unlock it unlocking it we're going to screw this out if the decapping pin out to be about 3/16 starting just extending past the base if you don't have a ruler everybody has money that's our best friend to quarters is just a little bit less in sixteenths of an inch so we're going to place up there if it extends just pass it we're set we'll hold that be Catherine we'll screw this lock nut down tight against the knurled in finger tight these are crescent wrench to Snug it up and now we're set well screw this down into depressed this will move up and down to give us the right depth for resizing okay we're going to prep this dye prior to resizing most dyes come packed with some oil or some lubrication to keep them from rusting this guy has been cleaned if your dye isn't clean you'll have to take it apart disassemble it as we did this up to expanding him out by doing that you just unscrew this pull the decapping assembly out take some kind of a degreaser spray it inside there what you're doing is you're going to make sure that the vent hole and this die is not plugged that way it can properly vent and you don't get buckled or dented cases you can see the vent hole right there like I said this one's clean now that the die is properly set up and clean we are ready to resize we're going to screw the die into the press and get ready to resize them to set the die we're just going to screw it down a few threads just to hold it in place just nice and easy to screw in there just going to leave it in there to hold it got the shell holder shell hole there's a number four that's what the packaging calls for on the die body it's a shell holder for a seven millimeter rim mag we got the case here seven millimeter Remington Magnum the shell holder nice and good fit now we're in business we're now going to place the shell holder in the press shell holder goes on the RAM I'm going to take and move this lever down to handle as I move the handle down it raises the RAM there's still pieces called the RAM that's what's forcing the shell up into the die body this is where all the work is done the pressing of the metal shell holder snaps in here you hear the audible click let you know it's in there nothing to lose as a little bit of oil and grease to keep it from rusting just make sure you keep it clean as you don't want any contaminants any oil contaminants to touch the primer because it can contaminate the primer and cause it not to ignite now it's important to push the rim all the way up by doing that I'm lowering the handle at its lowest spot the RAM is fully extended with the shale hold it in place now I screw the die down keeping pressure on the handle I want that Ram to stay up so I screw this die down until it touches the shell holder making sure this lock ring is loose so that I get down far enough and there we have it so you can kind of snug the locking ring I wouldn't snug it yet what we want to do is we want to take any play out of this RAM and the linkage so with that set now I'm going to screw the die down or towards that shell holder 1/4 of a turn 1/4 of a turn we'll start with the native Iturbe I'll tighten the locking ring we don't need to set the lock to the set screw yet and as you can tell when I run the RAM up there's a cam effect it scamming over that's what's going to give us that pressure that's what's going to resize this brass back to factory specifications
