hey guys my name is ben and i want to show you today how to work with this lg icemaker we have an lg slim space plus ice system and today i want to show you how to do some diagnosis some testing and tearing down on this unit to get in there and figure out how to do everything you may have some questions about the system i want to help you today it's an lmxs 27626 system it's not very hard to get to everything in it so it's going to be a quick video but if i'm missing something from this video that didn't quite answer your question make sure to like comment and subscribe to this video and hopefully i can help you out with something on this refrigerator so let's go through this next few minutes and see what we can do on this refrigerator today the first thing that we want to do is take apart related components to the ice making system on many newer lg refrigerators the water reservoir is hidden behind this bottom refrigerator door bin however sometimes it is instead the water filter behind this on some models that i've seen too to remove the reservoir you'll need to remove the single screw with a phillips head screwdriver then depress the retention tab on the right side of the panel to release the reservoir cover the cover pivots on the left side of this door on this model to reveal the tank so make sure to attempt opening it from the right side where the tab is the reason you may want to investigate the water tank is if the valve has failed or more likely the tank has frozen up preventing the ice maker from getting the water it needs to make ice cubes the tank on this unit is fine but now you know how to access it and if need defrost it or replace something to access the ice maker and its components simply pull the gray lever and pull the exterior door away from the ice maker revealing all of its internal components to remove the ice bin pull slightly up then roll the top of the bin outward to remove this is a little trickier than it looks and you want to be careful not to damage the ice maker or its sensors when doing this the instruction panel on the inside of the exterior door has some directions and it can make this job just a little bit easier for testing the lg ice maker ensure that the unit is turned on now at times it may also be wise to power cycle the unit itself first as you'll see the motor attempt to work when it's powered on or at least it should attempt next let's test the ice maker button located here circled is the small rubber button that begins the ice maker tests on this lg fridge you need to press and hold the button for a few seconds in this case i kept it pressed for quite some time probably longer than what was needed but it began to test flawlessly without issues now the lg tray will run a dump cycle if the ice maker actually has ice in it remember that it will in fact dump the ice out and straight onto your floor so you may want to have your ice bucket handy you cannot access this test with the bucket fully installed meaning you do have to make a choice on how to capture the ice here is what you should see when running the ice maker test from the top of the ice maker rather than the bottom initially when i thought i ran the test it would go clockwise and counter motions but i was mistaken on the video it may regardless though be useful to test it multiple times to ensure that the test and ice maker run properly to remove the ice maker from the housing you need to remove these three screws from the ice maker all you will need is a standard phillips head screwdriver to do this make sure not to remove the other screws as they hold components in on the ice maker like the motor and auger and then the ice maker itself you do want to take out the whole assembly first then take the components out later once the screws have been removed you can pull on the housing to remove it but there is a wire harness at the top that we have to unhook before the ice maker can be fully removed this harness is rather large and difficult to remove and the ice maker is very heavy you will need to account for the weight in fact the unit will want to fall downward when you remove this harness so make sure it's suspended and accounted for during the removal process here's the whole assembly removed so you can inspect or replace the entire assembly and or its components two screws hold the ice maker onto the plastic assembly and there are two or three screws on the front for the ice auger motor i thought about taking this apart for the video but it's so straightforward i really didn't want to take the extra time of yours up so here's the general overview of the ice maker assembly next to the ice maker housing itself reinstalling the seam or a new ice maker assembly works exact same way in reverse you'll put the harness in first then seat the ice maker housing assembly into the ice maker cabinet snugly then finally install the three screws to secure it all in place now i'm speeding up this process but it only took me a minute and a half to reinstall this entire assembly one area of the ice maker assembly to investigate is the air vents that go from the refrigerator itself to the ice maker to freeze the ice these vents in their associated gaskets could see degradation over their life span causing the freezing cold air to escape causing the ice maker not to cool for ice potentially finally one of the last things i wanted to show you during the ice maker video is how to remove and replace the water filter as it could affect the ice maker you want to make sure the water is shut off to the refrigerator at the valve supply the filter simply comes out by pulling down and forward towards the front of the refrigerator and then you can insert it back the very same way and i think that's it for this basic guide on an lg ice maker now if you still have problems feel free to leave a comment and i will see if i can help you again the lg ice maker panel has a lot of great help on these units or so i found when doing this video but that's it for this video guys make sure to subscribe the channel and we will see you later you
