on this episode i'm going to be showing you some tips and tricks on how to remove screws with stripped heads just like what you see here also screws with broken heads and nails with broken heads as well so stay tuned [Music] welcome to fix's house if you're new to the channel please consider pressing the subscribe notification bell so you could always be in tune on diys how-to videos and product reviews that i do within this channel so this video i actually made because it was a special request by a fellow subscriber they were asking hey could you make a video on how to remove broken nail heads broken screw heads stripped out screw heads as well so i created this mock-up out of different types of scenarios first one i nailed different sizes of snails on this 2x4 and i'm going to be showing you later on how to remove these with different techniques i stripped out a few screw heads as well these are drywall screws they're about inch and a half long and i also use general purpose screws just to mix it up a little bit these are about two and a half inches long and the first method i'll be showing you is the ones i see very common and i just wanted to see if this actually works so i had to try it for myself so i cut a few pieces of this rubber band and i'm actually using this on this inch and a half drywall screw that's buried deep in there and so far as i tried it it just doesn't seem to work it just tore up the rubber band i don't know some people may have better luck on this but it just doesn't work on these really heavily uh buried screws in this case it was an inch and a half drywall screw but doesn't mean you can't try it for yourself the second method is i'm going to be using a uh drill bit so depending on what size screws that you make sure you take the right drill bit for your size head and i'm going to be using this star bit right here i'm going to be using my impact wrench and i'm going to be slowly drilling it out but so far it doesn't seem to work don't take this out of the equation yet because if you do the raised one i'm gonna try this raise one with the same technique i'm gonna still use the star bit and this time i'm gonna pound it with the hammer so it's gonna be nice and locked in and if i use my impact wrench or you can use a drill as well just go nice and slow it actually works so this method is actually accurate maybe if i tried the hammer method on that first one it would probably would have worked now this third method that i'll be using is using this extractor tool this is the speedout pro i'm i'm gonna leave this on the description down below where i got this product but it comes with four different types of sizes both with a burnishing side and the extractor side what you're going to do is you're going to insert and use the burnishing side first make sure that you use your drill on this project project and you're going to have to go on a reverse motion on your drill so you're going to drill out on reverse slowly so that you can do an about an inch and 16 deep from what it says but you can go a little bit deeper than that and then you switch it out and you're gonna tighten it up to get to the extractor side okay but you're still going to rotate it onto a reverse and notice how i'm just gently tapping it to go in a really slow motion so in this case it didn't work so what i did was i went and used the next step i went to go and use the next size over of the from the extractor side and it actually came out so if the first size doesn't work don't rule that out yet use the next size over and this one actually worked doing that okay so there you have it just comes out nice and easy and i actually used the second one on the first one but the burnishing or the extractor side didn't work so i used the third one now this fourth method is really proven it works well i just used uh vice grips and it worked perfect if any of the other methods doesn't work this is for sure gonna make it that's why i call it the last resort this one is really gonna take that out i'm using my dremel tool and it comes with these accessories i'm using this dremel thin cut circular uh disc just like what you see here is super thin and it only works with this dremel mandrel okay so this is a pretty pretty quick easy in and out insert i really like this again all the tools i use in this video i'll leave it in the description below but this is uh proven you will get this screw out it's just that this one if you're using this circular accessory right here it's great for the raised screws just like what you see here if it's buried deep in there i'll show you a different method for that if you don't want to end up damaging the surrounding areas so that's why i'm saying make sure that you use this only for race screw bits or screw heads just like what you see here again we're gonna notch it out on both ends i'm slowly just grinding off each and what i'm trying to create here is an actual pathway for a flat head screwdriver to sit on okay so just be very careful again be careful with all the sparks may use use fire retardant fabric around here which i wish i used okay just to be safe and then after that you can use your flat head screwdriver to unscrew that again when you're using this uh dremel it's gonna create sparks make sure there's no flammables around okay and if you don't want to go through all that trouble and this also works really well for those broken screw heads okay just cut them off just like that now last resort number two i made yes i made number two now this one is for those screw heads that are buried deep in there okay now this bit right here is from the dremel bit and it has that nice nice pointy drill bit tip just like you see there and this works for those screw heads that are buried deep and you don't want to disturb or cut the surrounding areas or wood so what you're going to do again is the same concept with the last resort part one you're just gonna start chiseling off or start drilling off those sides so that you can make those channels for a flat head screwdriver to work and after you do that boom it works right well works really great you can take that off easily okay now we're going to be working with what about this the broken screw heads here i have a drywall screw head that's broken a general purpose screw head that's broken so now we're gonna try method number one which is you're gonna be using your drill okay so what we're gonna do you notice how this goes in and out now instead of putting a drill bit in there we're just going to feed it right through that broken head screw right there you see how nice and tight that is it's just standing up that's how nice and tight that is and then just gently gently go and reverse counter clockwise and it will take that screw off okay now this is for those um i'm using i actually took out the drywall screw on this one now let's test it out for a longer general purpose screw this is a lot harder this is like a longer screw that i put in there and it's not as soft as the um drywall screw and as you can see it doesn't work okay it just works on certain types of screws try it anyways if it works but this one for sure this vice grip is gonna get it okay this this is my go-to i really like this um i don't know if this is it's i think it's an eight-inch vise grip that i'm using but just clamp it real nice and just go and turn it and it should come off like that so if that other method didn't work try this and you will guarantee i guarantee you it will work and if you don't want to do all that twisting you can clamp it also with your clamp and then you can just rock it back and forth to break this off okay and i'll shoot snap off just like that easy all right so i hope that helped you solve that problem and here's a little one that i did if you have a broken nail or a broken wooden nail just like what you see there try that same method with your drill bit insert it through your um your drill and then go on reverse or reverse counterclockwise and it should pull that thing out i know it's not threaded or anything it's just a regular nail head or a regular nail but if you try it out it actually worked okay so try experimenting with different techniques and i don't know different situations on everyone i don't know what situation but you have but this actually worked now let's go to the broken nail head method number two again my go-to i like using this vice grip but this one is a little harder okay this might require a little bit of force and it might damage the wood so you're gonna use an extra piece of wood for leverage and to protect the uh maybe if this is on drywall or you're just trying to save that wood around it without damaging it use a separate piece of wood to leverage your vice grip and you should be able to pull that off just like that okay and then the other ones you can just use that as well use the vice grips again and you can just rock this back and forth i kind of like doing it i like doing this on some of my projects where there's extra there's a bunch of nails just hanging out instead of using my dremel you know i just use that rocking back and forth hammer back in now for the regular ones let's pretend that that nail did have no head just hammer it in and then the rest of these smaller nails again use this vice grip method and just use a little piece of wood for leverage and you should be able to take all that off just like that easy even this finishing nail came out in the breeze so there you have it those are some of my tips and tricks again if you have other methods i would like to know comment in the section down below what you prefer what method you like the best and if you have any new ones that i didn't mention here leave it in the comment section i would like to know which method you use but here are all the tools that i use on this project again use the hammer the dremel the bits the vice grips even the extractor tools there i'll leave everything what i used here on the description down below but here are the most of the tools that i use throughout this video again this extractor tool came out really nice i mean it was very handy but again it's not the go-to there's other ways to do it if you have drill bits even this handheld hacksaw will do it and those are the power tools that i use i found this video helpful please hit that big thumbs up press the subscribe button notification bell and i'll leave all this on the description below thank you so much for watching i'll see you in the next one [Music]
