depending on how long you've been using android you may have upgraded or changed devices many times over the years when activating a new device it gets added to your lit to your device list on google play this way you can manually install apps or games from the google play store on any device as long as it's registered to your account and it is attached to your account now this device list can build up over time so in today's video i want to show you how to remove old smartphones old tablets and old smart watches from the install menu when using the google play store now ideally you'd want to do this every time you start using one of those devices since they don't need to be attached to your account anymore and keeping old devices registered to your account can be a security issue if bad actors gain control of said devices but we can manually remove these old devices from the list by opening up the google play store from the web so you can access this by opening up a web browser typing in google.com play and pressing enter and this will work for both the mobile and the desktop version of the google play store so once we get here we're going to want to tap on the profile picture up at the top right so that we can then select the library and devices option now from here we're going to scroll across this list up here at the top so that you can reveal the devices option and then select it and it's here you're going to find a list of all of the devices that are currently registered attached and active on your account so we have the device name or the device nickname we have a show in menu option a column for the maker a column for the model a column for the carrier that it is used on when the last time that device was used and when that device was registered so after we have gone through this list and we have located a device that we want to remove we're simply going to tap the check box the check mark in the box next to the device name for the show in menu option so like this walmart device that i was using on a tv i'm no longer using it so i've just unchecked that box next to it and now that bar that device should no longer show up when using the google play store now i am reading that there is a bug where people are still seeing the devices in the install list even after you have followed all of these steps this issue does not seem to happen to everyone but it has been reported to be a bug by multiple people in the android community forums that i check for those of you who are experiencing this bug i can also recommend that you simply rename the device in the list to something else that way when you see it you'll know that it isn't the device you're looking for since it has been renamed to something completely different so for example here i have two google pixel 6 phones in my list because one i actually own and have in my possession while the other one was sent back to google for an rma request so i can come in here and remove the device from the list but if i'm experiencing the bug that does not remove this from the list then having two devices with the same name is not going to help me so since i know this is the older one i know that i can remove this and change the name to anything we can change it to anything i'm just going to select old phone right now so it is very obvious what this device is if i see it in the list so that's the official way of how to remove and rename android smartphones tablets smart watches and set-top boxes on your account from the google play store install menus you
