[Music] hi welcome to doc martin's youtube channel this week's episode is about a condition that while non-life-threatening dramatically affects our quality of life and that is vertical simply put vertical is that feeling that either you or the room is spinning but and this is a big but you're not drunk yes depending on how long these episodes of vertical last it could cause your life to be miserable so let's dive a little bit deeper into this condition and see how we can help relieve vertigo naturally so let's get cracking vertical accounts for about a quarter of all dizziness complaints it is a feeling of dizziness a sense that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving a loss of balance or unsteadiness nausea vomiting ringing in your ear something which is called tinnitus in medicine or hearing problems and it can usually last or usually last for less than a minute the most dangerous thing about vertigo is it may lead to a form which may cause pain injuries or even broken bones this is usually brought about by a change of head position but is actually happening as a response of a brain of the brain to a mismatch of information coming from your eyes your inner ear mechanism and information coming from the deep muscles of the joints of your head and leg so let me show you some of my favorite exercises to help ease your bulimia the first exercise is a movement exercise and this will help balance crystals in the inner ear while changing body position so sit up right turn your head 45 degrees and all you need to do is make your way down on your right side keeping your head at a 45 degree angle hold it for 30 seconds and gently make your way back up hold this for another 30 seconds before you turn your head 45 degrees in the opposite side and make your way down on the left keeping your head at a 45 degree angle holding it here for 30 seconds before you gently make your way back up center hold for 30 seconds that counts as one set and you repeat that five times and do that twice a day remember while you're doing these exercises you may get a little dizzy or experience vertical but if you hold it for 30 seconds the dizziness or vertical should minimize and go away the next exercise is called a gauge stabilization exercise and all you need for this is a pen so hold the pen about arm's length away from your eyes right at the center and focus on the pen and from here you're going to be keeping your head straight and you're going to make your eyes follow the pen left right left right up down and then follow the corners as well while you're keeping your head straight okay now the next exercise is you're going to be moving your head while your eye stays focused on the pen so as my head turns to the left i'm looking at the pan as my eyes turn to the right i'm looking at the pen as my eye my head goes up i'm looking at the pen as my head goes down i'm looking at the pen left right up down okay so this trains the eye movement and the muscles of the eye which will improve your balance get rid of vertigo and help with your dizziness last but not least massaging the deep structures of your neck muscles will also help your vertical behind your ear you will find your occiput and just below that your sub occipital muscles massage and put pressure on these muscles to relax them then find the most painful spot and put pressure with your thumb then extend your head and rotate to the same side hold up for 30 seconds relax and bring it back to center find the most painful spot on the left side extend turn towards that side hold it for 30 seconds relax and face forward do the same on the other side repeat five times twice a day stress can also cause vertigo so the more relaxed you are and the more you avoid stress in your life the healthier you will be some general housekeeping vertigo can be a symptom of something more serious so it's really important for persistent cases of vertical to get it checked out by a healthcare professional especially if your symptoms are recurrent severe prolonged or unexplained or if they are accompanied by the following symptoms a new or different type of headache that can be severe a fever double vision or loss of vision hearing loss trouble speaking legger arm weakness loss of consciousness falling or difficulty walking numbness or thinking a good emt or neurologist should be able to rule out more serious causes of vertigo if your vertigo is coming from a misalignment of your cervical vertebra or spasms of tiny muscles behind the neck called the sub-occipital muscles a good chiropractor should be able to sort you out in fact there are chiropractors who just specialize on problems of the upper heart cervical spine in our clinics it is common to be able to help people suffering from vertigo headaches neck pain or arm pain with a good specific spinal adjustment so remember this is doc martin saying every day in every way you are getting better and better [Music] you
