hi guys it's a beautiful morning on the farm and if you do remember our Ambitions for the 2024 plans one of the plans was that by the end of 2024 we want to have 7,500 BDS in production yeah so we have been lucky we already have two flocks one of them is full in production the second one is just starting actually that should be one of my next videos showing you guys my flog that's starting one of them is just starting to lay and right here we have a brand new flock you know in this chicken house right here you know we've developed to the point where we can actually have a chicken house completely dedicated to brooding and raring so in this chicken house right here which is actually just next to my dad's home you guys do remember where we started from yeah right there in the background is my dad's home so this chicken house over here uh currently we are brooding now these birds today being a Friday should be about day 6 CU they were brought on a Sunday so today should be their day six this time I've decided not to show you guys each and every day because because I believe you guys understand what breing is I've made a lot of videos about brooding so I just want to update you guys on exactly what's happening what we've been doing so we're going to go inside I'll show you guys uh how we did the preparation so that's the top of the chicken house right there it's locked as you can see there's a pad lock because we not using it at all and we only using the bottom part right now to do the bring uh this is a disinfectant this should be old yeah I think this is actually just water we were using it when we're using up there uh the one for the bottom part is spoiled it couldn't hold water anymore so we decided to just use you know this right here so we are moving guys we're moving and uh right inside here this is our chicken house I think we've run out of uh Cho so we use Cho to bro as you can see we've been using Cho and right there is our brda this is our brda guys some of the tapine like this one had a bit of holes uh so we decided to cover it on the outside with other bugs to ensure that our heat doesn't escape uh you can see some of the buckets and the bins we've been using to prepare the water right there we have uh chick boxes yeah and uh maybe we'll go through some of the data very quickly okay guys so this is um some of our data that we've been having over the past uh few days right here so um we brought it about to ,700 birds and as you can see this is the AG in weeks and this should be day three six so 6 days correct and then you can see the moralities on day one we had one on day two we had 10 day three we had 17 which is usually the time when we pick in terms of mortalities and then it started coming down yesterday and last night we had only one so I I think we are really getting done with our mortalities yeah this is not too much honestly it's not too much usually we say you can expect mortality during brooding of up to 2% so if you're looking at um 2,700 buds 2% would be what about 54 and we are maybe at 39 and I think we're going to almost get done with our mortalities yeah we're probably at around 1% during broing just over 1% yeah so I think we have done quite well I'm not so worried as you can see see we had six then three then one that means that it's trickling down we might not have any more going forward so I think we're done well with the brooding you can see the section where we've been doing our brooding yeah the chicken house was prepared we disinfected it cleaned it out and uh let's just go inside and take a quick look inside the space where we're breeding so since I'm going to enter the chicken house with my feet I had to remove the gambits I have to disinfect my feet so let's go and open it it out right here this is the feed we've been giving I think it's getting done yeah it's pellet feed you can see this is the pet feed we are giving the birds it's the pre- starter we give it for just one week and after that we switch it to the concentrate feed and uh this is our BR right here this is our Strange door and we'll get in okay guys yeah so you guys can see the BR you can see the birds the birds are I'll pick just one okay so these are our Birds right here you can see that they have already started to develop feathers as you can see these are feathers that they're already developing and they look quite nice yeah if you can see them they are properly distributed we using just one stove and honestly the Brer I can honestly confess that has started appearing quite small so we're going to have to expand this bu yeah but you can see these are our trays our feeding trays are pepper trays uh they're not pepper trays they're plastic trays and so I will feed the birds from I raise it up as you can see yeah so we place pellet feed that you can see right there because it ensures that the birds have quick access to the food yeah the birds will always have quick access to the food and as I pick the food up you can see all the bird's curiosity is drawn towards me actually as I speak you can see all the birds racing towards me take a look at all that yeah the birds are racing towards me for some reason they just love to you know hear sounds and voices so they're all racing towards me they very comfortable inside here I can I'm standing inside here and I honestly feel very comfortable it's quite warm as you can see yeah of course you can't see the warmth but as you can see the birds are properly distributed they're not all skewed to one side they look healthy honestly they do look healthy these are the drinkers where we giving them the water from yeah these are the drinkers and there's water so I'm happy it's not like the guys are not taking proper care of them there's actually water in most of the drinkers now that it's morning we're going to have to get them out and clean them out and everything yeah but yeah these are our feeders that distributed all over our drinkers these are our BR peppers and today the goal is actually going to be to get the BR Peppers out so that the birds start running on the lit itself so the purpose of the BR paper is to ensure that the birds don't feed on the litter because when you have just brought them in they can't differentiate the difference between litter and food so you don't want them to feed on litter you want them to feed on the food but right now the BR paper is really not necessary so we're going to get it out because now they can certainly differentiate between food and litter yeah and also they're going to get a more comfortable place to sit on but thirdly the BR has actually become quite dirty yeah so we want them to start putting their droppings down if they continue putting their droppings on the BR paper it might become chaotic because if water spills there the dropping are there the droppings are not mixing with litter you risk introducing coidis inside your chicken house so yeah guys let's start the work we're just going to get the BR paper out since today is day 6 tomorrow is day 7 tomorrow we should be doing our very first vaccination and that's Newcastle IB NCD IB so I'm quite excited honestly um about this lot of buds because it's what's going to get us to 7,500 buds in production lots of excitement all right guys as you can see we're now getting the drinkers out yeah so the guys are moving the drinkers those are the drinkers this side they have finished everything so as you can see the drinkers have been piled up here because we don't want the water to Spill and then remember we also need to make sure we clean the drinkers up so uh all the water is going to be taken out and then the next thing we're going to do is to put all the Feer trays on uh one side probably not one side but just move them out of the way and then remove the B peppers from the ground so that's what we're doing right now you can see that the guys have taken the drinkers out yeah they have taken their bucket with their drinkers out and uh like I said the bua is starting to get soggy quite soggy for my liking for example if you look at my foot right now you can see that there's droppings right there which is which is something I'm not comfortable with not like I'm not comfortable with stopping on droppings that's fine but then that means they're becoming too concentrated and you want them to get mixed with the litter and not stay on the peers because that becomes a problem yeah that can cause you covid the birds are quite compacted so the next thing we're going to be doing is uh expanding but that's going to be tomorrow because today we're going to do this yeah get this out get the bu paper out just let them get accustomed to the to the liter and then tomorrow we're going to give the New Castle vaccine and then open out you know expand to the next pole so they have a little bit more space to move around and play around in the house so as you can see right here there's litter at the bottom yeah this is our litter as you can see it and then the feed is being poured at the bottom so once the feed is poured at the bottom the chickens will come and scratch it as you're going to see at the end the birds really love the litter they love it way more than the BR pepper they love it so much so if we get the BR pepper out like the guys are doing at the moment you're going to see all the birds going on the litter and starting to scratch the litter so guys the birds can't believe they l they literally can't believe they like they're like w this is so cool they're literally all scratching they've gone a scratching frenzy everywhere while there litter and they open up as you can see the guys in the background they're still trying to get out more of the paper and the stones and everything so they pile up the feeders just like this then get the paper out but everywhere where the you know the litter has been removed the birds are literally on a scratching frenzy they enjoying it so much they really really enjoying it so much and that's why I love keeping my chickens in deep litter you know I could keep my buds in cages but look at how the buds are enjoying the litter the scratching being down you know it's a natural behavior their natural behavior is for them to scratch yeah they're 6 days old but they already scratching on their one they literally scratch on day one because it's natural for them so imagine keeping them in CES they're not scratching they're not exercising natural behavior it's not something that I enjoy so because of that I literally stick to deep litter all throughout yeah well at least for the foreseeable future you never know things might change I'm not calling myself like you know to be a God or you know some holy scent you never know things might change but as of now I'm enjoying keeping the birds on deep litter and letting them enjoy their space you can see the birds yeah they are quite many guys they are quite many and these are going to give us a lot of eggs take a look at that meanwhile guys we have solar lamps so this is solar so so we using solar lights as you can see inside the entire house we have quite a number of solar lights and those are what we are using to light up we don't want to depend on the you know the normal electricity the Hydro power because we keep getting load shedding in our area so to make sure that that doesn't happen we just decided to use the solar lights for broing and uh it's working out very nicely so guys finally the place is way more quieter compared to what it was like before you know because the paper is out they were all running on paper it's not very quiet because they're all running on the litter but all their focus and all their attention is down in the litter you know all of them are just trying to scratch take a look at all that yeah they're all just trying to scratch maybe if we look at the farther areas take a look at that they're all just trying to scratch down and like I said it's clear that uh they're quite compacted in their space but tomorrow we're going to be expanding out so these are the feeders as you can see so we'll just uh spread them so that you know they're not just looking for the feed from the litter but so that they actually do have food you know they usual food so ni I think plastic should be some plastic very dangerous I always throw it out and guys you can see the birds over there in the corner I think they're resting yeah you know after eating you need to rest so a lot of them are just lying down and resting take a look at that looks very beautiful and now that the feed is all inside you know we placing the water down so you can see the guys over there in the distance they're slowly bringing in the drinkers so those are the check drinkers as you can see since we took the drinkers out uh the birds got quite thirsty so as you can see when he places the Drinker down the birds quickly rush to itat in order to get some water as you can see right there yeah the birds will go to eat as you can see to get some drinking water because they are quite thirsty they're quite thirsty you can see them surrounding the drinkers yeah of course there's bless birds that side because there's more activity and people that side and the birds don't want to be near people yeah but as you can see we have more birds this side but once we do have all the drinkers distributed inside the chicken house and then there's no people moving around we're going to have equal distribution inside the chicken house yeah so um that's very beautiful take a look at that very very beautiful so guys I think our main work for today is done yeah uh We've removed the BR paper and then we're giving the birds their water and some feed and then we're going to just let them relax you know we've opened up the sides as you can see right here and in the background over there you can see that it's partially open to let in fresh air yeah despite the fact that they are being brooded you want to let in some fresh air because as you can see outside it's shining yeah it's shining you don't want it to be you know all because the birds are brooding and they need heat you don't open up you need to make sure that you have fresh air coming inside the Brer so the Brer is super air rated you can see our stove that there that we're using for brooding it has some heat inside yeah it has some uh Cho inside so it's producing some heat um and it's going to be a cool C day tomorrow we're going to do our vaccination and weigh them to see how they are progressing for week one and I think we're going to have very very good progress don't forget to hit the Subscribe button smash the notification Bell catch you very soon with another
