hi I'm Ellen at top label and here at top light table heater and I think that this is a great time on some of your basic horsemanship skills so make sure that you're doing things the right way and a way that is safe so Nick and I here are going to show you today how to properly put a chain leader up autumn horses halter so you want to make sure that your halter fits properly I'm going to make sure that your halter is not too big and hanging down over the horse's nose also that it's not too snug and tight across his nose so this is a well-fitting halter here we're gonna take our chain first we feed it through the ring on the left side of the horses halter we're leading on the left side of the horse and we feed it through the left side on this ring we're gonna take our chain across the horse's nose and we're gonna wrap it around the nose band of the halter one time and you feed it through this ring coming back towards you this side of the horse's face and finally snap it to the higher ring on the horses halter with the snap facing out so this is a correctly applied chain Libra I'm Mick and I would be ready to go outside and I've had a little bit of extra control on him I want to go over a couple of how not to put a chain over a horses halter very common mistakes that I see happening that are not safe and you want to point out to you the first thing is when snapping the chain lead rope you and make sure the snap is facing out if your snap is facing in that could press against your horses face and be uncomfortable or painful for him people snap their lead rope just to this ring and not wrapping the chain over the horse's nose band of his halter and the danger to that is that your chain could slide down so always make sure it's wrapped over the nose way out and finally one really dangerous way that I've seen people using their chain lead ropes is running it through the bottom ring of the halter and snapping it to itself this one is really important from a safety standpoint if your horse is grazing it could easily put his foot through the chain get himself tangled up and really very seriously hurt so let's just go through one more time put our chain on the worst property we're gonna from the left side feed it through the ring of the halter wrap it around the nose fan once back through the opposite ring here on the right side and snap it with the snaps facing out so that's how you use properly a chain lead rope thank you so much for watching our video be safe and happy riding
