what's going on jonah with the home theater diy here today we're going to go over how to mount a tv to a wall so i have an articulating mount which is a mount that pulls out about 18 inches from the wall i can tilt and rotate it any way i want to and then i have a plasma tv 50-inch plasma tv that i'll be mounting on the wall so there's definitely a few tools that you'll need to do this properly so let's go over those so the main thing you'll need when mounting a tv2 wall is the mount itself so this is an amazon basics mount it maybe 60 on amazon so it wasn't too expensive a lot cheaper than the other mounts i've seen so i'm excited to try it out and see how it works and if if it's something i'd recommend or not the next things you'll need are a drill and drill bits you will need these drill bits to drill into the studs of the wall so that we can anchor in the mount to the wall two additional tools that will make this a lot simpler is a stud finder so we can put it up to the wall scan across and find the correct stud and then a level some mounts have a level built in but they're not the greatest they're they're really small so it's not going to be entirely accurate so a standalone level is going to be your best bet and lastly is the tv itself so like i said i'm mounting a 50 inch plasma tv to the wall so it does weigh quite a bit i think it weighs about 60 70 pounds way more than what a normal 50 inch led television would weigh you know a modern television so let's get started let's go into the first things we need to do all right so let's go ahead and begin unboxing the mount sometimes they'll actually give you this layout right here which kind of makes it really easy you can just kind of tape this up to the wall and drill your holes once you know where the studs are so now that you have the mount unboxed we want to figure out how high we want the tv on the wall so in order to do that usually you'll have brackets that you're mounting onto the back of the tv and then those brackets will usually sit onto the actual mount so we'll measure from where the top of the mount is to the top of the tv and then from that distance we'll know how high the tv is going to be on the wall so now let's go ahead and attach the brackets to the tv so there'll be four different screw holes on the back of the tv depending on how wide they are it could be 400 millimeters by 400 millimeters or 600 millimeters by 400 millimeters there's a bunch of different visa patterns that you may have but most mounts are going to apply to and work with all of these so for this specific mount i have this bracket right here that basically slides on to the mount once it's on the wall and then we have these brackets that will extend out and attach to the tv itself so let's go ahead and get these installed and then we can move forward all right so i've got everything prepped and ready to go i have the mount with the four brackets attached to it and then i also have all my screws ready so each mount is going to come with a big pack of screws like this basically for all different sizes of tvs anything you'll need so i have mine ready to go so now i'll attach this to the tv and then i can measure okay so i have the screws ready now i have the screws with the washers and i have the bracket so something to keep in mind when you're doing this is you don't want to strip the screws so make sure using a drill that has a limiter on this so i can actually set the limit here so it's not going to over tighten the screws and strip out anything all right so now i have the screws loosely tightened onto here so i want to make sure that my limiter is set on my drill if you don't have a lender on the drill just be very careful about how tight you're screwing the screwing in the screw so here i want to push up on the bracket so i'm pushing up come up to the screw and tighten maybe a little too much on that again push up and tighten there we are so now this is secured to the back of the tv and i can hang the tv on the wall now now we want to measure from the top of the bracket where it sits on the mount to the top of the tv and this will tell us when we have the mount on the wall we'll know exactly where the top of the television is going to be so like i said we'll measure from where the top of the mount or the top of the bracket sits on the mount to the top of the tv if we look here that's going to be about 11 and a half inches so it's 11.5 inches from where the top of where the mount sits to the top of the tv itself so we'll measure from here to here and we'll know our exact measurement so if we measure from there to there it's about four and a half inches so we'll do eleven and a half minus four and a half and that'll give us seven inches so the top of the tv's gonna be seven inches from the top of the mount all right so from where the top of the mount is to the top of the tv is 7 inches so now i want to look on the wall and figure out where i want the top of the television to be and usually you want your eyes centered on the television if you were you know kind of looking up at it so i would say i probably want it about this high right here so i'll take my tape measure go down and that's where the top of the mount is going to need to be so next i'm going to take my stud finder and my pencil and i'm going to mark out the studs on this wall so if the top of the mount is going to be right here screw holes will be slightly below that so i'll scan across the wall looks like we have a stud right here come across this way we have a stud right here another stud right here all right so now we have our studs marked on the wall you can see we have a few different marks here just kind of making sure everything is lined up as best we can and now i'm going to take my mount and if you can see on this one it only has two sets of holes usually on mounts they'll have holes kind of going all the way across so we are kind of limited with this one as to where we can place it on the wall but for this case it's really not a big deal this is the office it's not the living room so it doesn't need to be perfect here but all i want to do is set the mount up to the wall and just make sure that my studs line up if you come a little closer you can see that both of the marks are very visible so we'll be able to hit the studs for both of these okay so here we have the bolt that's going to go into the wall and here we have the bit that's going to drill the hole when you're looking at these you need to make sure that the bit is just slightly smaller than the bolt or the screw whatever whatever you're going to use just make sure it's slightly smaller i'm not sure if you can see this well or not but you want to make sure that the the thread here is much further out than this and you want to make sure the actual base of this is just slightly bigger than the bit all right so i realized where i marked was just a little high for where i'm going to be sitting so now i'm going to bring down the measurement just a little bit so again it was 7 inches from where the top of the tv is going to be to where the top of the mount is going to be so that means the tv is going to sit up there that's a little too high for where we want so i want to bring it down to about maybe right there i think that's a better height so i can go right here mark a few inches down from where i'm at take my stud finder and then just make sure that my stud is good still center is about right there i'm gonna circle that one x that one out i can always go back and erase those all right so i have my stud marked and at the height that i want it so seven inches above here is where the top of the tv is going to be so i'm going to go ahead and drill my first hole so make sure my drill bit is centered all right so we have the first hole drilled now there's a few different ways you can go about this if you want to measure out make sure you're on the right stud make sure it's level you can do it that way the way i like to do it is to go ahead and put the mount on the wall and then slightly tighten the bolt so i'll grab my mount make sure it's upright so you can see i have this and this is going to help me keep it in place so now i can come out over here make sure i have the right stud make sure it's level and then i can drill my next hole all right so you can see that we have it level now with the one bolt in i have my other screw that's going to go in or the other bolt that's going to go in right here so we'll need to drill this hole with it level and then we can put the other bolt in so now we have both holes drilled the mount is level so now we can put the next bolt in [Music] all right so now we have all four bolts in and now we just need to tighten them all down and make sure that we're still level here all right so now the mount is fully secured to the wall so all we have to do is move the tv and we're going to put that little ring onto this ring right here and that'll lock it in place we'll put two screws in the back right here and that securely locks it to the mount all right and we're done as you can see the tv is mounted we can move it around pull it out from the wall do whatever we need to do now it's not exactly centered on the wall but that doesn't bother me too much if you want it centered on a wall just make sure you get some sturdy drywall inserts and use those and then you shouldn't really have any problems from there if you enjoyed the video please leave a like also leave a comment if you want a written tutorial on this with pictures and step by step go to my website dot thehometheaterdiy.com slash mount dash a dash tv and i'll have a little link to that in the description as well but
