hi I'm Craig Phillips welcome to my tiling trade tips in this video I'm going to show you how to prepare a concrete floor lay some self levelling compound so it's ready for Thailand now this floor I'm about to prepare for Thailand is in fact my own kitchen dining room and living room it's all part of our dream build which I've spent the last six months self building and he can still hear by the noise I've got tradesmen everywhere window fitters carpenters there's plaster is upstairs all in a race to get the house complete like with all DIY and trade tasks preparation really is the key to a successful job now the materials I'm going to be using is a synthetic resin primer and also a fiber reinforced leveling and smoothing compound now whether it's a new bills like man or a renovation job if it's had a new concrete floor you must like this completely dry to allow for any shrinkage and of course clean off any debris on there make sure it's dust free but don't forget your safety equipment your specs mask and gloves [Music] now I'm going to seal my floor with a synthetic resin based primer now you can apply this meat directly out of the can or you can dilute it with a ratio of three to one my floor is quite porous so I'm going to apply one to one so that's five liters of prime eg and five liters of clean water mixed up into a bucket and then poured over my floor and spread out using a painting roller by applying the planner on to the bare porous concrete to start with this allows equal drying time for the self levelling compound when it's applied to areas on the floor that happened to be thicker or thinner once your ceilings is dry normally after a couple of hours you can start to mix your self levelling compound this particular bag is twenty kilos and that will require 4.5 liters of cold clean water so you apply that into your bucket first then add your powder and mix it with an electric paddle but don't forget to use your dust mask and your safety specs you can apply the self levelling compound at a minimum of three millimetres deep all the way up to a maximum of 40 millimetres it helps to spread the solution evenly by using a spiked roller when you're covered in a large area like this 60 to 70 square meters the extra hands always makes a difference so now you've covered the entire area with the wet self levelling compound leave this to dry for at least 24 hours before you start laying the tiles [Music] I hope you've enjoyed watching my tiling trade tips there's plenty more of them along with tile mountains wide range of fantastic products on their website so why don't you visit it time out on da koat UK [Music] [Music]
