[Music] what's up guys welcome back to another episode of cp's workshop tonight we are going to get started on putting down the pre-slope for our shower so let me show you what this takes a little sand and portland what is it called portland cement mix so that's the stuff we're going to be mixing up if you've never done a uh pre-slope on a shower before most people you just buy the little free slope kits but you have to have a quarter inch rise for every foot that the shower is long so our longest point in the corners is two feet so we need to have a rise of a half inch um which actually works out great because our drain is one inch off the floor and we need to go another half inch up to an inch and a half total for our rise and a two by four is an inch and a half so since i have a two by four base all the way around the shower i know that i can just take my slope up that high on the outside edge and then we'll just slope down to the drain and that will give us our correct pre-slope so what i need to do right now is get the uh pre the mix all ready to go and then we'll get in the bathroom and get it [Music] rocking [Music] give you a quick rundown of what's going to happen here because it's going to be on time lapse when you put down your mud you have to have a layer of thinset so i got some thinset here got my trowel i'm going to put down a little bit of thinset pack down some mud just the width of my blade so basically we're going to go right here to the top of the 2x4 for my inch and a half we're going to put down this and just work our way around the outside to get our inch and a half and then we'll start putting down some thinset and working our way around so what i'll probably use the outside then i'll do right here all by the drain get it all packed in nice and neat so all right guys so we got the outside edge done and around the drain let me show you what i did so again we needed an inch and a half lip which is a lot typically it's a lot lower but because my drain was so high mine had to be a lot higher so the best part though and the smart part when you're doing this is make sure you get your height right and make sure that you're level and if you got level all the way around and you see there's a tiny little gap there as i'm fixing this and doing this i'll get those gaps and make sure it's real super level all the way around but that gives me a spot to start and then around the drain i don't really know what the best way is to do this but it makes sense to me to pack it underneath there and then just have it ramping up to the drain that way as i pour in my new stuff it just floats into it so that's what we're gonna do [Music] all right guys there you have it um one pre-sloped drain so you can see my slope there's my bubble other side i need to work on that other one it looks like another corner last corner so that's how you do it man um pre-slope in we let this dry 24 hours and then we got to put our rubber membrane on and then we're ready for walls and tile it's going to be awesome all right guys we'll see you tomorrow so all right guys welcome back uh next day we're going to get started on this shower install so the first thing i've got to do today or that i want to get done is i want to go ahead and get all the plumbing installed completely all the valves shower head all that so what i've done so far i put the shower head up i'm putting it up really high because we got a rain head shower that's going to come up and then out but i want it pretty high my son's pretty tall so we want to make sure that it's high enough to accommodate people that are above average height and then down here i've got to install a 2x6 so that i can mount my power valve so where you see my two lines here i will be cutting out this 2x4 and installing a 2x6 into that hole so that we can go ahead and mount the power valve so i'm going to go ahead and get these water lines removed and hanging off to the side we'll get the 2x6 cut in and then we'll get things rocking all right here we go if you remember um when i was doing the lines underground i took out i needed to move like they needed to cross right so the hot needed to be on the left cold need to be on the right totally spaced doing it i got so excited about getting the floor done so i gotta go get a couple tees so that i can cross the lines over to the right side on the valve um and while we're there we're gonna grab the dare rock for the walls the mortar mix to do the rest of the shower floor and what else and just the tees to make the water lines work so here we go we're heading to the hardware [Music] store [Music] so [Music] all right guys looks like we got her in a couple little wrinkles i gotta just try to smooth out it looks like it came in pretty well i do need to do a couple little patches so i need to check real fast and see what i need to do there but the next step for this will be putting down a mortar mix bed since i'm on concrete i've already pre-sloped in the last video so now i just need to get down my mortar bed and then again make sure that i've got the right amount of slope to my drain my drain is going to be just a tiny tiny bit lower than the tile at the end the end so i need to check that too check the thickness of our tile to make sure i get my drain at the right height so i've got one little patch right here i gotta do um so i'm gonna go take a look at that see what i need to do to patch that up and then we're gonna start mixing up some mortar mix and get those bed put in we are going to start getting ready to put down the mortar bed for the shower pan this will be the last step in terms of concrete work that we need to do so once this mortar bed's in we can start putting the walls in and start prepping for our red guard so here's what we're gonna use um we've got a quick crete mortar mix um i just did two bags because i have a pre-slope already so i already have an inch and a half of build up so my goal is to only do about an inch of this stuff total so i think i can get it done with two bags i use two bags to do of the dry pack so that's my goal um so i'm gonna go ahead and mix this stuff up by the directions that are on the back um and get it all mixed up and poured in and then that's what you guys are gonna see me doing next all right guys so we're in the bathroom um one thing you want to do before you start pouring in your mortar mix is put a little gravel around your drain that might be a little too much um but we're going to roll with it that will help um if there happens to get any water down it will allow water to get to the weep holes that are on the drain let me clear it out so you can see where the weep holes are example there's a couple of them right there so we'll just fill that in with gravel that way if um any water does try to get to the drain it can get to the drain um so my goal is to i want to get the mortar bed to right at the bottom of this that way i can still spin it up if i need to spin it up a little bit so that's kind of my goal it's going to be that even thickness it's about an inch all the way through and then once we're done with that we are going to be good to go for tile and stuff so i'm gonna set you guys down i'm gonna get my mix ready [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right guys as you can see we got the pan all in um double checked it a couple times with the level make sure we got a good slope coming from all angles which we do i got the drain turned up um i would recommend using a round drain instead of a square drain that way you can actually set it to the height you want the pan and then when you're done you can just turn it up versus me having to try to keep going around that square drain but pan's all in and ready to go um all we gotta do now is wait for it to dry and then we'll start putting the walls up and then after walls we got to do a red guard and then we're ready to start tiling so that's going to wrap the how to do a shower pan video again if you haven't already hit subscribe on our channel like our videos if you like what we're doing and leave a comment alright guys thanks we'll see you next time
