hello everyone welcome to my channel today i'm going to talk about this book hannon the virtuoso pianist have you ever wondered why pianists can move their fingers so fast so precisely were they born with it no we were not born with special fingers we trained for it in my studio there are several technique books that students do beforehand so by the time they get to hanon they know how to play with good finger shape and do certain techniques already but some teachers use hanon from the very beginning it depends on your teacher in this video i'm going to talk about how i practice hennon and how i want my students to practice hanon as well so you can see what it takes to gain virtuosic piano technique and also i don't have to keep explaining the same exercises to every student who starts hanon in our studio in this video i'm going to specifically talk about exercises from number one to number 20 and all of them goes like this [Music] [Applause] so do [Music] as you can see you keep playing same pattern over and over as you go up and down on the keyboard and your goal is to play all the notes as evenly as possible as fast as possible as for the tempo it depends on your level but in our studio we usually start from 108 which sounds like this [Music] [Music] and once master all the exercises at this speed then in the next round you're gonna play at 120. so it's normal for pianist to go through this book for several rounds and 120 sounds like this [Music] [Music] at this point if you master all the exercises at the speed it's pretty much safe to say you can play all the music in the world technically but if you can play at 132 you can probably play all the music in the world technically without struggling so much [Music] my [Music] and if you can play at 152 your fingers as fast as [Music] mine [Music] all right this is probably a good timing to hit that like button now let me explain how you train your fingers move fast and evenly like this there are four ways i want you to practice this and i call this rhythm practice number one very slowly loudly number two long short number three short long number four staccato let's start with number one very slow and very loud it'll go like this very slowly as loud as you can [Music] so you get the idea and make sure you go as slow as you can and don't speed up and if it's too easy instead of speeding up make sure all the fingers are nice and even and none of the fingers are collapsing and none of the sound is softer than the other this will train your finger strength and teaches you the pattern that you're supposed to play faster later next one is long short and it'll go like this it's a little similar to dotted it's not reason here we go [Music] now you get the idea in this reason you're only playing half of the rhythm quickly and when you do make sure all the notes are even and they're not overlapping the third reason short long is exact opposite [Music] again make sure those two quick notes are even and not overlapping and the last reason staccato that's pretty self-explanatory and so on staccato ensures your fingers are moving independently it's almost impossible to overlap the notes with staccato when i was learning hanon i was doing these exercises every day and i make my students do it every day too these exercises are like muscle training you won't get stronger and faster overnight but over the time as you do it over and over and over and over your fingers will start getting faster and faster and you'll be surprised a year from now your fingers will be moving much faster and much more accurately of course when you practice hanon it won't do any good if the old basics are not there so that's why i don't start with this book some teachers do and they have their own agenda but i don't because i want to make sure all the students have all the basics first and you're training your fingers if you're not sitting at the right position or if you're playing with the wrong technique then that's not gonna do any good or it can even harm your hand and i know many pianists have done that before so please make sure you only do these exercises under supervision of your teacher all right that's pretty much all the basics i want to talk about hand on today if you're a teacher and if you have any other way to practice please let me know in the comments section if you agree or not agree with the way i practice please let me know if you have any question i'll try to answer as much as possible if you haven't subscribed to this channel yet please go ahead and do it now so that you won't miss my next videos thank you for watching and i'll see you next time you
