hey guys spencer kaufman here with how to video channel today i'm going to show you how to send power to a light switch from the light fixture so you have a light fixture control box in your ceiling or somewhere maybe the wall where there is power coming directly from the circuit breaker and so the the fuse panel this is sending hotline in and so this this black wire would be uh full of power and here's the neutral from the box and now you have your light fixture which has usually two wires sometimes it does have a ground wire and a lot of times they're not nice copper wires like these they are a bunch of little silver wires that you have to kind of twist together and hope they don't break and so what this is sometimes this will be blue black it could even be green but generally if there's a green that's your ground so usually it's blue and then you have here this is simply another set of wires that is running from that that this box down to somewhere in the wall where you have a light switch and usually it's a single pole light switch now if you need to know how to wire up a single pole light switch when the power is coming from the the ceiling or the light fixture check out a card here there's a video that we will show you how to wire that up and so if you for some reason have power in the ceiling and none of this is wired or you unwired your fixture and now you don't know how to put it back together that's what we're going to do here so the first thing you need to do is take this hot wire right here and connect it to the hot wire that is going to go down to your light switch so you're going to take these connect them together grab your lineman's pliers give them a little twist around so they're good and solid you don't want them coming apart and then take a wire nut and put that on there so that they're safe and secure alright so this is going to the light switch this is going to the bottom terminal of the light switch okay then you have a neutral wire right here and then you have a neutral wire right here but this is not going to be a neutral wire this is going down to the light switch really what this is is this is the wire coming back up from the light switch so we'll come to that one in a minute so take this neutral wire and connect it to the neutral wire from the light switch or the fixture sorry from the fixture so the fixture neutral is going to get the neutral from the box the circuit box or the fuse panel or whatever it is that you have all right so right there wire nut them up now here we have an issue uh if this wasn't simply a video i would redo this because you see here there is extra wire right here between this insulation of the the plastic on the wire and the wire nut this is not good you do not want to have this gap so i take this off clip it and make this shorter so that it's up in there further so you do not have that so this is a teachable moment for you and for the sake of the video we're not going to redo it but that's what you would do all right so now that that one's done get that out of the way okay then we have this which is our hot for the light fixture this wire is going to get connected to the neutral wire that is coming from the light switch so we have power coming from the circuit breaker it's running down to the light switch the light switch acts as an interrupter so when you turn the switch on the power is sent back up this wire right here and it has to turn this light on so this fixture so these two are going to get put together same thing here you can see already that this is going to be way too much wire so you'd want to clip that shorter so we'll just wire those up quickly so you'd want to go like that and then you could just clip that off and put this wire nut on so that that isn't exposed see there that's a little better i'd still make sure that that would be further up in there you generally you want the wire uh this insulation to be up in the wire nut up to you know up here where this this smooth part is that way you're sure that no nothing will ever touch that live wire all right then you have the grounds and these you can simply twist together we got pliers here to do that you do not need to put a wire nut on the grounds however sometimes it is a good idea just to make sure they stay together in addition if up in the the box this is the ceiling remember or the wall where the light fixture is if up here in this box there is a ground screw you'd screw this to that otherwise this ground is now running down into the light switch box where the light switch should have a ground screw if you have an updated light switch so this is it that is how to wire sending power to your light switch if the power is up in the ceiling if you have any questions or comments please comment below remember this is the live wire live power coming in and it's going down to the light switch where the switch is going to then send it back up to the fixture so again any questions please comment below i hope you like this video hit that like button in addition hit the subscribe button to stay tuned for future videos thank you
