hey everyone this is andrew time welcome to my youtube channel today i've got demon souls working on the steam deck and this is working through the steam operating system on the game mode today i'm going to show you how to go ahead and install the playstation 3 emulator rp cs3 and get games like demon souls working on it too so if you haven't subscribed already then please consider subscribing it only takes a moment to do but you'll be able to keep up to date with the latest gaming tutorials so what i'm going to do is to press the steam button here and then we'll go to power and i'm going to switch to desktop mode so once we're in the desktop mode we're going to go to the discover software center and we can do a search for rpcs3 or you can simply go to applications and then go to games and then click on emulators and then if we scroll down here a little bit we're going to find our pcs3 here which i've selected now i'm going to press the install button now so once that's installed we're going to go ahead and press the launch button in the top right hand side and now we have the rpcs3 open so the main issue that we have here is that we have a missing firmware so i'm going to go to the firefox logo here i'm going to open up the browser so what i've done is the search for the term ps3 firmware also going to leave a link to the sony website in the description it's going to take you directly to the firmware page so all we need to do now is to scroll down and click on here download ps3 update i'm going to press save file and press ok so here it's saying that the file has not been downloaded so i'll click on this information button and then saying here that it could be a potential security list don't worry about it press allow download so just let that complete so i'm going to open up dolphin the file explorer then i'm going to go to downloads and now i've got my ps3 update.pup that's the correct file so we're going to open up our pcs3 again and then we're going to click file and then click install firmware so now that we're here we're going to go to our downloads folder i'm going to select ps3 update dot pup and that's going to go through the process of installing the firmware that's already done press ok now it's configuring ppu modules once that's complete we can move on to the next step so one of the first things i would advise you to do is to turn on dark mode because we can't see some of the text here so we'll go to configuration and go to gui and then we'll change the ui style sheet and change my one to choroid dark click save now this is in dark mode you actually see what's being written here so a good opportunity now is to add some games and click open i'm going to add my games so i'm going to add so i'll find my playstation 3 folder and i've got a whole bunch of games here i'm going to be adding the game demon souls so in order to find ps3 games online all you need to do is type in the name of the game for example demon souls ps3 and then iso and find loads of download links we can simply make backups of your own ps3 games and load them through our pcs three so here you're going to select demon souls so the game folder itself normally comes with subfolders ps3 game and ps3 update as well as this sfb file so basically you want to select the parent folder and press open so as soon as the game is added it's going to start generating the cache for it so just wait for this to complete so once these shaders are complete what i'm going to do is to shut down this so that we can load it up into the steam gaming mode and get the control support working so we're going to close this then we're going to open up steam so here you're going to click games and then click add a non-steam game to my library i'm going to scroll down and find our pcs three we're going to tick on here and then click add selected programs so now when i go to the library and if i scroll down here i can now see rpcs3 is listed so now we can go ahead and launch this 3d steam gaming mode so i'm going to double click on here to return to gaming mode and once we're here we're going to go to the library and then we're going to go to non-steam and then we're going to find our pcs3 here so that's now been added and i'm going to press play so now we're going to configure the controller settings so we're going to go and click the pads button here and then instead of keyboard we're going to go down and select ev dev and this is automatically going to set up x input for us here we're going to press save so i can now control the game using the onboard steam deck controls it's also a good idea to change some emulation settings here so i'm going to right click on demonstrate a custom configuration at this stage it's a really good idea to check the rpcs3 wiki for the demon souls entry or any other game that you're trying to run here i'm going to select the resolution scale threshold as it suggests on the wiki i'll change this to 640x640 here i'm going to turn right color buffers on this will make the ammunition a bit slower but it's going to work better if you did want to tweak the resolution you don't want to change the default resolution you'll change the resolution scale here however it just so happens that 1280 by 720 is perfect for the steam deck so i'm not going to be changing anything with that so once we're done here we're going to press apply and then close another thing we can do is to apply external patches so we can do that by going to manage and then going to game patches if this window doesn't come up you can always press steam here i'm going to go to the update patcher dialog box and press yes i want to update the patches and here it's going to show all of the patches that are available i'm going to click on only show own games and we see demon souls here and what i want to be able to do is to skip the intro videos i don't want to unlock the fps i'm going to apply these two patches press save and now we're going to load up the game so this custom configuration is now complete we're going to double click on demon souls and now the game is loading so if you ever want to switch back to the configuration menu what you can do is press the steam button here and then if we find out our ps3 that's running we can actually switch back to the rpcs3 window just by switching between the active windows here so you can see this is the back end window of our pss3 we can go back to the active window here for the actual gameplay so now that we're here we can actually use our extra input to control this game properly so you can see that we've got demon souls running here correctly was running at a nice 60 frames per second at 720p so anyway this is how you get playstation 3 and rpcs 3 working on the steam deck as you can see it works fantastically make sure to check the rpcs 3 wiki for game compatibility but as you can see here it's all working great so anyway i hope you enjoyed this video i've got lots of other steamed tutorials on my youtube channel so please check it out if you like the video please like please subscribe and i'll see you in the next video
