let's jump into the shared competitive laboratory of collab building our own engine of potions monsters and devices we'll build our own pool of resource dice or we'll utilize What's Left Behind as we build our creations and the lab expands with even more opportunities we'll send our minions collect Dice and build our collection to best the competition and become the most renowned scientist in collab so during the game we're looking to build up our collection once a player has built their 12th card they'll trigger the end of the game players will finish out the round and then we'll add up our points from collected cards research and your endgame bonus and the player with the most points wins when you start the game each player picks a scientist and takes a matching board minions score tracker Bowl as well as four dice and a research board and tracker token if this is your first time playing we recommend you don't use the bonus cards otherwise everyone gets two bonus cards to hold on to and until they want to use them you have two cards and each has two options you can only pick one of the four of these options the tops always have a one time or ongoing during the game effect and the bottoms bring big endgame points but skip these if this is your first time playing for a simple first time setup take these supplies for your character but if you played before you can select any three cards any two dice and any one resource token the board is built like this this starting with towers and the center and then filling in the lamps this can be done randomly but for your first time you should use a standard setup which looks like this once the main board is set up take the two-sided Tower insert tokens and randomly Place one in each Tower randomly Place one starter upgrade tile in the center above each lab then Place six more tier one tiles in the same manner one on each lab place all remaining upgrade tiles nearby place a scoreboard nearby with each player score tracker on zero place the tokens that include your player count on the scoreboard matching their spaces put the three card decks and the resource trade nearby as well as a stack of resource Point tiles all players then roll two of their white dice placing them in two of their minions then you place the Minions on the tower that matches its symbol once these are placed everyone rolls the rest of their Dice and we're ready to play each turn you must either take an action turn collecting resources and building cards or a rest turn refreshing your dice and preparing to return to the lab if you choose to take an action turn you will send or retrieve minions gaining resources and then move your scientist into a lab collecting or building you'll always start with your minions they'll collect resources when they enter or leave the towers on the board if all your minions are on the board you will retrieve one of your minions collecting either the top or bottom resources from the tower they leaving then you place the minion in your player space and return the die to your bowl if you're taking an action turn and you have a minion in your player space you must send it to the board by placing a die from your pool without changing its face in that minion and then sending it to an empty Tower Space on the board collecting one of the resource sets from that tower towers can provide resource tokens cards potion tokens they can return Dice from your bowl to your pool and this symbol means draw two cards of any type and keep only one of them where you place your minion is important both for the types of resources you might gain but also because your minion will help you and other players collect resources and build cards so try to place it where it benefit you more than your opponents if you don't have a dice when you go to send a minion you must instead take a rest turn which will'll cover in a bit the next step on an action turn is to send your scientist to a lab you can place them on any lab space even if there is an opponent already there but you can't stay in the same lab when your scientist visits a lab you choose to either collect or build when you collect use the minions adjacent to your lab and put them all to work this includes both your minions and your opponent's minions take collect actions with the total cost equal to the number of minions adjacent to the lab you can use the same collect action more than once for example four minions could gain you two cards and a dice or four cards or two dice as the game progresses you will gain more opportunities to collect as new tiles are added to the lab the second option when sending your scientist to a lab is to build each lab allows for certain cards to be built and lab upgrades allow for you to build even more types look at the build symbols you can build as many cards as there are symbols of that type cards are built from your hand and use resources from your pool and resources held by minions adjacent to the lab you're building in each minion resource can only be used once per turn there are three different types of resources each type has two specific symbols for a total of six different resource symbols tokens and some dieces have just the type symbol on them this can be used for either of the specific types of that resource the die face with the two on it can be used for two of the same resource or two different ones of that type cards have a cost at the top left look at the resources on the board held by the minions and then pay the remaining cost by discarding your dice from your pool into your bowl or tokens from your board to the supply once you've paid this cost add that card into your collection your first card can go anywhere but after that you have to build orthogonally adjacent to an existing card already in your grid you'll gain points from building this card points on a card are found to the right of the card's name add these points and any points that may have come from effects to your total score on the scoreboard throughout the game you should keep a running total of your score so the total of your cards their effects and any points from research should always match your total on the scoreboard many cards have a scoring effect these modify the card's overall point value for instance this card is worth an extra two points for each card built orthogonally adjacent to it so it has a starting value of one but could be worth up to nine points some cards also have further effects like this one this is a when built symbol it means this ability happens only once when you first build the card this symbol is the reaction a reaction ability happens each time the listed condition is met cards with a Trigger action get a trigger token to track their use this ability happens each time you build a card orthogonally adjacent to it special abilities or collect actions can also trigger this card no matter how it's triggered it can only happen once per turn so flip the trigger token down as a reminder that you used it this term potion abilities require potion tokens in order to be activated potion tokens can be stored on a card with a potion ability you're limited to a total of four potion tokens per potion card to use the Ability discard the proper amount of potion tokens and then follow the instructions for the ability these abilities can only be used once per turn when you build cards it can be put next to any other card however you can never go wider than four cards and never taller than four cards when you decide to take a rest turn place your scientist in the middle space on the board take all the dice out of your cup and roll them adding them back into your pool and then take two of any of the resources listed you can get two of the same thing on a rest turn like any other turn you can activate potions and do any res research trades wild tokens can be spent to act like any one resource token or a potion token that can be applied to any of your potions in your grid tokens gained during a turn do not have to be immediately assigned this means that potion tokens you gain could be applied to a potion you built that turn assigning tokens for storage happens at the end of your turn you keep score throughout the game tracking your points as you build cards or gain points through research if you ever pass a space with a token on it on the scoreboard you trigger an upgrade round set this token aside and at the end of that player's turn start the upgrade round the first thing that happens is every player other than the player who triggered the upgrade round gains a wild token players can also gain additional wild tokens if they are further behind count the wild token symbols in between your score tracker and the leader and gain that many extra wild tokens if you're sitting on a space with a token that doesn't count towards the total after gaining your wild tokens we then upgrade the board starting with the player to the left of the one who triggered the upgrade round Place one lab upgrade onto the lab until all players except for the one who triggered it have placed one lab upgrade the upgrades come in level one level two and level three you can't place a level two until there are two level ones beneath it and likewise you can't place a level three until there are two level twos beneath it these can add some pretty great upgrades to the lab so be aware of your placement choose a spot that's better for you than your opponents once all the upgrades have been placed continue play like normal starting with the next player in turn order you can gain research through card effects or collection actions research is a special resource that can be turned in for points or for other resources each trade on the research board can only be done once per turn when you trade research for points move your research score tracker up that many points the first time you go over 10 flip over your board and grab a 10-point marker if you go over 10 again just grab a point marker and leave your board where it's at anytime you gain points on this track make sure you add them to the scoreboard Players have a special ability they can use once per turn discard one card dice resource token or potion token to flip any one of your dice to the side of your choice during your turn you can freely collect cards and tokens with no concern about limits however at the end of your turn if you have more than six cards or four tokens you must discard any extras at this time you reset all of your trigger tokens and assign any potion tokens you collected this turn players continue taking turns until a player has a turn where they have built their 12th card they'll finish out their turn and then each other player who hasn't taken a turn this round takes their turns until the round finishes so players all have equal turns at this point the game is over and we check our scores you can recalculate your grid and your research points to make sure it matches what's on the scoreboard then add any points you get from your bonus card you've selected and the player with the most points wins in case of a tie the player with the fewest cards in their grid wins if still tied the player furthest from the start player is the winner and that is how you play code lab
