HOW TO PLANT GRASS IN DEAD SPOTS. OVERSEED YOUR LAWN

[Music] just checking this opening right here tighten it up just a little bit like right there like that see that just gonna do a little bit of seed right there okay i'm gonna put all my blue grass in there i don't know if that's a good idea or not this is the last of my everest kentucky bluegrass i love this stuff it is amazing it's a beautiful seed somebody talked me into going with this seed jimbo talked me into it and i'm happy that i went with his recommendation this is five iron perennial grass seed right here okay five iron you get this from united seeds call up united seeds and tell them that i sent you they have good seed i got this from united seeds got this from the united states so i'm going to reserve some of this bluegrass seed the everest i have to have seed for the back it has to be bluegrass so i got a decent amount in there maybe five ten pounds or something like that and this is the perennial rye grass five iron from united seeds call them up tell him i sent you be like you know what that lawn rebel sent me okay just mixing the seed up got some dude over there running the track hoe okay caught making a big mess making all this loud racket so i'm gonna put all this seed in here i don't know how much that is but it's a lot i'm gonna put that down it's probably i don't know 20 pounds or something like that like shut your freaking mouth dude gee bad day bad time to be put seed down see how windy it is over there got mr trackhoe freaking being loud look how windy it is got the flag over there it's windy what we got going on here is i want good seed to soil contact when you seed seriously dude you suck look at this freaking yahoo okay see that guy over there making a racket noise oh look at that dog he's got a little dog with him right over there i wonder if that's billy over there it could be billy running the track hope so i'm gonna go do the backyard considering that jimmy over there with stupid track hoe so it should be pretty flat and pretty good to go i've been through here with my drag several times so i'm just going to come through here right here i sprayed this with uh glyphosate roundup yesterday just gonna kind of level this out just a little bit [Music] should be nice and soft let me get rid of this pile of crap we're just kind of roughing this up just a little bit i want to clean this area up just a little bit [Music] it's less than ideal it's not great but it's all right so this area from here back i wasn't planning on seeding that period i just kind of decided that last night that is not normally how i recommend preparing an area for seed however we are where we are and i'm just going to go with it so i'm going to put the seed down right here and i also want to see this trench area right here so i'm just going to spread my seed using the setting that i've got here this is a mix of perennial rye grass and bluegrass now i'm just going to kind of spread it around and hope for the best you're doing good pure kentucky bluegrass you want to put down three pounds per thousand okay i haven't exactly measured this but i'd say it's probably about a thousand square feet from right here over there i've been spreading fertilizer and seed for years so i just kind of go by feel i look at it as it's coming out the hopper see how it feels and how it looks as it's coming out and that's really how i know i'm not putting enough down the better you prepare your seed bed the better your project's gonna turn out it's like painting you do a crappy job and prep when you're painting your paint job's gonna look like crap [Music] [Music] grab a little bit of seed let's try to head up this little trench area before my peat moss uh gets away from me or before my seed blows away i need to put down my top dressing formula and some starter fertilizer so i bought this spreader last fall at walmart for ten dollars because i wanted to be like ryan moore just thought it would be fun to be able to give ryan noor a run for his money on the spreader situation he's not the only one that can drive a cool looking spreader i could i can run with the best of them pal this is starter fertilizer i'm not sure what the analysis is on it i picked this up when i was doing my renovation in 2019. whenever you're doing a seating project you always want to put down starter fertilizer with high fast okay high fast is the center number of the analysis like a twenty zero zero be the mid the center number you wanna get something with a high number what it is it doesn't really matter but you just want something with high like a triple 16 or a 8 24 4 or something like that just going to go around put some uh fertilizer down with this ryanair special spreader i close the hopper and the lever doesn't close it doesn't do anything well that's a piece of crap i'm not gonna get anywhere with that that's bull next thing i got here is some good old-fashioned sawdust went to the lumber mill with the sawmill and picked up this sawdust okay this is just regular old sawdust from the bum from the sawmill looks like this i'm using this acting like a peat moss to spread on top of the seed so my seed doesn't wash away and act as a mulch i'm just going to spread this really quick and dirty so i want just about like a quarter of an inch or maybe less but this just will help my seed not to blow away not to get away from me okay so just a light thin layer of the sawdust [Music] [Applause] i think i've got just about enough on there you don't want it too heavy and too thick but the sawdust will keep it from blowing away keep it moist keep it damp have a better uh chance of success well yes i could use peat moss and it might be better to use peat moss you know this was free i have access to it locally and it works just as good this is how i did the front section of my lawn in 2014 this is my preferred method to use i've spread a bunch of sawdust all through there that's where i pretty much put the seed where you can see i put the sawdust somebody's gonna be out there in internet land saying you know this you know that no no no no no you can't do that no you cut the grass that short you can't do that for this reason don't it's gonna ruin the ph of your soil some stupid thing they're gonna say but guess what it's gonna work just fine folks i want to wet the sawdust down just a little bit so it doesn't blow away so not too crazy i don't want to put a lot of water on the lawn i just want to get it wet just a little bit so the sawdust doesn't blow away and i can already see the water is pushing the sawdust around and that is too far the thing i hate about these sprinklers is it's almost like it dumps all the water at the end of the ark and it doesn't dump any um inside the ark it's supposed to be what they call a rain curtain where it just does the whole curtain but i just don't buy it i'm gonna let this run for about 20 minutes i'm gonna go to the front and work on the front all right so this section next i've got my blue grass and my perennial red grass in here i'm gonna spread it right here just kind of hand spreading a little bit of seed here and there just putting a little bit more by hand in this the struggling sections um in some of these bare spots [Music] all right so the rest of this i want to put down in this section over here where all the where i've got the big dead areas so got a fair amount of seed just right down through this area just putting a little seed here by hand so that's pretty good right through there basically put a little bit on these little spots right here the lawn actually looks really nice right now it's beautiful that pretty well covers the main big areas that i am worried about hand sprinkling i need to grab this section right here and that pretty much uh gets all the major big areas [Music] here's the rest of my rye grass seeds i've got one more 50 pound bag and then i've got a bag of new [Music] [Applause] i'm gonna glazes it in this direction here now and then once i get that done i'm gonna head to the side then i've got to get some sawdust down on that far side where my bare spots are and by my uh by my walkway right there neighbors there it's really flying out of the hopper right now got it set at a high setting and i put just a little bit more seed in my hopper it's really going good [Music] i need to do a little quick little fertilizer [Applause] where i've got my seed [Music] all right so i just want to take this stuff put it on my bare areas right over here and this keeps my seed in place and keeps it moist [Music] i cannot afford for my seat to get washed away for about the fourth time so i've seen this several times my seed just keeps getting washed away so hopefully the sawdust will help with that so i finished her off folks got all the sawdust down in my trouble spots like right here and over there over there kind of everywhere a lot of work i hope that my seed comes up and i hope it doesn't just get washed away no rain in the forecast so that's good i can just kind of do it lightly with my sprinklers and make it go that way so if you like my videos subscribe if you haven't
