How to paint or refinish kitchen cabinets with Graco Finish Pro 9.5 HVLP (Panasonic G7 & GH4)

[Music] cabinets so what's going on everybody Adam Neely with build guilt and refined TV coming back at you with another episode some over here with master carpenter Chad MC chatter I'm gonna head up a cabinet refinishing job let's take a look sup MC chatter top of the morning to you good morning alright that's right y'all ready to do a kitchen job cabinet refinishing coming at you here we go [Music] all right so here we are we're doing a white stark white refinishing here we're gonna sand prime degrease prep line network with all those steps a little more sanding no more priming right yeah couple coats couple coats make sure that's done right it's always done right it's always done right right yeah right right but always done right but we always do it right that's how we roll don't want to do it [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] we come in we'll also cover up the microwave dishwasher in the sink so at least the homeowners have access to those overnight till tomorrow alright so here we are client job counter refinishing day two is sanding prepping and priming all the cabinet boxes we've got all the doors removed actually we didn't do it Emma it home understood yes nice yeah save some time saves a lot of time yeah sometimes we get homeowners that really would be a part of a project we don't always necessarily approve or trust or trust other people's methods we have our method it works very well it's trying to true when a homeowner must get involved we would really appreciate it so we do give them the opportunity to help out a little bit and removing doors and moving the hardware from the doors that actually helps save us a lot of time cool paint pranks and clear clean mmm mmm sounds good [Music] all right so cabinets are sanded degrease now we're even doing paint prep there's no a long way to do it chat before the spray bottle I prefer a jug once of the applicator wiping it down after this comes from them [Music] all right coming back at you so a big question that we got and then we get frequent primetime so a question that we get frequently is what kind of primers do we use depending on the project depending on the cabinet's depending on the existing finish that'll that'll change what primary we use so today because we are going over some old cabinets that have over the machine to it even though they're not machine down we could resend them to prep them we're gonna use a sensor VI n which is one of the better primers there's about 45 dollars a gallon but it's well worth it but this primer it's a shellac based primer it goes on smooth we're actually going to be rolling and brushing the primer and then we'll be spraying the paint five times ready Chivers ready to paint [Music] [Music] alright guys and gals prime coat is done day three tomorrow we'll scuff up all the boxes lay down paint on them now we're going to prep Prime and paint doors and drawers in one day doors and drawers one day there you go [Music] [Music] [Music] so what's up guys and gals back at the job site day three today's paint all day first thing I'm going to do these boxes is stuff them up I have these three enclose I prefer actually just stuffing them up lightly with these just to give it a little bit more of a of a good solid base for the paint to adhere to [Music] all right so get ready to paint the cabinets the paint that I like to use most of the time the Shirley Williams emerald urethane trim enamel this paint goes on smoothly it goes where you want it to go it doesn't run away from your brush strokes and it covers really well so lay some paint the brushstrokes are really important because they do come through so you need to do get into all the grain you need all the little nooks and crannies and afterwards take a nice long stroke and even everything out so that it looks uniform all the way across alright guys so right now I'm going to start assembling our PVC painting rack okay we're assembling it out of out of one and a half inch PVC so it's nice and solid and rigid you don't have a centerpiece two legs coming down and the centerpiece will be where we hang our cabinet doors and drawers in the house [Music] all right so we're back at the cabinet refinishing job and this is actually day four typically a jump like this would really only be three days now both master carpenter Chad and I are very particular about prep work because prep work is the foundation of everything that follows and prep work is back the jobs gonna be done so today we're gonna combine these doors the floors my paint two coats of primer again we're using the scissor VI em two coats of primer flash time which means dry time let it set and then we're gonna do two coats of paint we're done all right check it out guys back to work see if you get to work all right guys it's all ready to spray it's actually set up outside because there's limited space to set up a booth inside here and we're too far away we're actually an hour and 15 minutes away from our shop where we have a spray all right so let's get spraying [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] here with MC chat paint it's done as you can see behind us all the cabinet doors and drawers have two coats of primer and two coats of paint and that's a wrap that's a wrap let them set up for a little bit definitely get fans on get some hardware on them we're back on yeah
