so for this egg temper here's some stuff you're going to need I'll make a list at the bottom in the info but right now we're going to harvest the egg and so first what you're going to do is you're going to crack your egg and what we want for the paint is the yellow the fat of the egg sack so pass it back and forth try to get as much of the white of the egg that you can get off um I like to also dry my hands a little bit in between so then that way I don't have a bunch of the uh White of the egg in the yellow egg sack so you're going to try to get it as dry as you can so you can pinch it and then we're going to pop it boom okay so then that way you can just pour your egg yolk into your little glass jar and that way you can save it for later there's my egg yolk and there is my gum arabic and then I have just some pigments um I have a lot of different pigments I like to save some of them in the pill boxes cuz it's more portable so you could use whatever you want got my pallet knife paint scraper different kinds of brushes um that one's a triple zero I also work with double zero the largest I'll use for an egg temper is a z um you don't want to go bigger than that there's my jar dark of water and so first you kind of mix your paint um I like to put my pigment down first so then that way I can take my pigment and mix it into the medium of the egg and the gum arabic um the proportions are kind of depending on how much you're going to make um so I put my egg out first so then that way I can kind of plan how much of the gum arabic I put in and you do it by dripping it into it you don't want go too much into um the egg with the G Gum arabic I do about a half and half or a little bit less Gum arabic than the egg you don't want it to be too eggy though because then the painting will become too shiny and the Egg will flake [Music] off traditionally uh you paint by hatching and cross-hatching and what I I'm trying to do is to make it look pretty dense so I'm making it I'm painting really tight [Music] together you're going to try to also keep in mind to keep your hand off of the clayboard the grease from your hand will actually make the egg temper come off of the board so I like to rest my hand also on my palette or keep my hand um higher up on my brush so then that way I'm not resting my palm on [Music] it so you also want to try to work a little bit thinly because what I'm doing here is so I'm going to be building in layers and with egg tempera it's great because you can still see the colors that are beneath so I like to do an underpainting first and then I work from that upwards to add in my highlights and details so right now it's just mainly the [Music] values so the thing about egg tempera is that it dries really quickly and you're going to be mix in paint quite often you don't want to make too much paint too fast uh that happens to me a lot so you'll see a lot of waste towards the top of my palette and that creates kind of like an eggy smell too like in your work area so just be aware of that try to make as little as you can but also be able enough to cover the area um it's better to have fresh mixtures anyhow when you're painting you don't want to use anything that's been sitting for a while uh it'll get too tight py and you'll start pulling up some of the paint that you have already laid down which creates a problem when you're layering because you can't really fill the areas you pull back up too well it it'll look a little bit uh patchy always remember to change out your egg at least every other day [Music] [Music] now try to remember to clean your brush every once in a while it'll help get the old egg out of your brush and you'll get smoother [Music] Strokes [Music] [Music] look [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] he the
