what's up guys it's Alexander Travelbum welcome to another packing video this time it's how to pack for South America so right now I'm currently in Cusco Peru hence sweater and I've been in South America for about three and a half months already so I just thought I would show you my packing setup really quick so this is my main bag the nomadic which is a forty liter and this is the best travel backpack out there I think I've been using it for a while and then my day bag current day bag is the Wandrd Prvke 21 liter so let's go over the basics first first we go over the Nomatic my main bag so the Nomatic is awesome because it opens from the back so it's from here and your stuff it's safe so here's everything I have inside so firstly we have toiletry bag a big sturdy jacket and then we have packing cubes packing cubes are must the ones that I use are from tripped and they're awesome because they have a zipper here that makes it so you can compress everything after you've packed it up so these packing cubes keep everything really organized and you're not gonna have stuff everywhere in your bag these three cubes have all of my clothing in there then you have a rain jacket a compressible one that you can compress down really small so it doesn't take up much room in your bag a beanie because it does get cold in South America and then we have a travel towel which is very thin compressible and it dries quickly I think this is a necessity you need this if you're gonna be staying at hostels you need this if you're gonna be staying in hostels and in general if you're gonna be packing a towel for your travels I suggest you get a travel microfiber towel so that's everything in the main compartment at the top here we have you got the things that you need so we have an eye mask and ear plugs this will come in handy especially at hospitals and then in this compartment this is where I keep my socks and underwear now they pack so I'm just gonna unpack everything out of both of these bags and then we'll go over it in more detail so the wandered like I said it's 21 liter perfect amount of space for a date bag this one's cool because it's customizable so you can customize this whole area here grab my drone my computer cord a lens GoPro and my camera usually goes here I'm filming on it now and then space for the laptop that is something the most likely need in a date back up here we have an electronics organizer for your iPhone cords any other electronics you might have especially if you have camera gear you might have a lot to put in here the eye flex I'm gonna talk about this later but this is like little tripod for your iPhone so if you watch Netflix or Hulu or anything if you're gonna be watching on buses planes or trains you can fold this up and you can hold your phone on the seat on the window on the tray table on airplanes and it's just great for watching movies and TV as you go or reading books the last necessity here is an external battery charger this usually can charge my phone around five or six times fully so anything that I mentioned here today I have affiliate links down below so if you use Amazon you can go down to Amazon and get any of this stuff I have a link to the Alexander travel bookshop find all of this stuff there alright guys so this is about everything right here everything that I've brought to South America I've been traveling for about five years and I've learned how to pack for different kind of climates and everything so if you're thinking about going to South America you might be thinking that it's hot you might be thinking tropical climate but actually a lot of areas in South America are very cold so for South America you're gonna need clothing for all different kinds of climates you're gonna need very cold you're gonna need the tank tops and the shorts for the beaches and for the good weather but then also you're gonna need the heavy jackets you might be in the Andes of Peru or you might be in Patagonia and Chile if you're gonna be in Cartagena Colombia it's gonna be a completely different thing so it makes it a little more difficult to pack when you're gonna go to an area that has all of these different climates so this is what I do I'm gonna tell you how to pack pretty minimally even though you're gonna need a variety of clothing here so all of my clothing is inside these three trips packing cubes besides my underwear which goes in another compartment so while it's out let's go over underwear really quick so my favorite underwear and has been for the last three years it's ex-officio so ex-officio their basic way to travel underwear it's moisture wicking it's quick drying foder resistant so you can supposedly wear these for a week straight just one pair so because they're travel underwear I only travel with three that might sound crazy but once you get these you'll see so again they're links down below to these you can see their different colors and there are ones for women too and you'll see all of that below but these days this travel underwear it's a necessity for me especially if you want to pack light and you want don't want to bring ten pairs of underwear so for socks as you can see I have some long socks for the colder weather I have maybe three pairs of these and for boots I usually wear some boots and you're gonna want some ankle socks or something like that if you're gonna be in hot weather so in all five six pairs of socks that should be enough next the travel towel as you can see I have this sleek black travel towel and it is really thin so it actually comes out to be pretty big it's enough to be a beach towel or a shower towel but then I could scrunch it up to nearly nothing to put back in the back and it'll dry within a couple hours instead of a couple days which about how it will take so just look at this this is a small bath towel and this is the travel towel look at the difference there so please don't pack one of these with you if you're trying to pack just a small backpack for your travels you don't need it all right like I said earlier it's gonna get very cold in some parts of Peru Bolivia Chile and you're gonna want a beanie something like that you can get one while you're here if you want to prove you in one but I always bring this one with me all right first packing cube so t-shirts are always easy to wear easy to bring you can wear them everyday so I usually bring something like a black one some really muted colors grays whites blacks Browns so that you can wear them over and over and nobody's really gonna notice that you wore them before but then you're probably gonna want a couple that have a little bit of color or a pattern something like that let's see what I want to have a little fun one day which brings me to the floral Hawaiian shirts so you should have a couple button downs if you can fit it and if you go somewhere like Columbia where it's very colorful you'll see that everyone is wearing colorful shirts they're wearing the floral Hawaiian shirts like this so bring a couple of these or you can buy them there and on that track my new bathing suit is very colorful usually I'll just wear a black bathing suit but I thought this one was pretty cool especially if you're somewhere like South America alright next pair of shorts again I like them to go a little bit under the radar so you can wear them over and over and you don't have to bring three four five pairs of shorts so just black you could wear these everyday and no one will know the difference a pair of pants so I actually have two pairs of pants with me that's what I usually bring with me so I have the ones I'm wearing now so just a pair of jeans classic you can wear them all the time you'll see people all over the world are wearing jeans every day even in the hot climates it's surprising and then some lighter pants so when it gets really hot some khakis something like this like color like material that's be the best so if you're not wearing shorts and you want to wear pants you can wear these all right another button-down just so you have a couple of different options I usually bring two or three button downs like this different colors and then a sweater if you can find a sweater that is warm but it's also not too bulky so you can fit it in your bag look for something like that so like this always keeps me warm when it's a little cold not too cold and it gets you by and pretty much all weather unless it's very cold and that's when you're going to wear something like this so this is a compressible winter jacket which I keep in this dry bag I linked to this dry bag below I use this for jackets and a bunch of other things you can keep your stuff dry and keep it compressed in your bag so this is my jacket but I bring with me everywhere these jackets are very popular everywhere so they're pretty easy to find but I would look for one with a hood in case it rains and you'll see these fluffy jackets all over the world but make sure before you buy that it's gonna be one that you can squish down like this and fit in a bag all right one more button-down this is kind of supposed to be a nicer button-down shirt so it's actually a long sleeves so if I want to go to a nice restaurant well kind of nice if I want to look a little more presentable for something than a button-down good one sleeve one more small packing cube here alright this shirt is a lifesaver you can wear this in semi warm weather but you can wear it in cold weather and it usually keeps you warm so thermal long-sleeve like this white usually does the trick for me and another muted green t-shirt you can barely tell if there's color on there but if you want a little bit of color there it is another white t-shirt what's the buttons here Henley and one more a gray so in all four t-shirts I'll bring five or six and then I'll have the button-down so seven eight shirts so you're gonna want one more jacket with you because it can rain in South America tropical climate it can rain a lot in some areas but it's not always gonna be cold when it's raining so if it's not cold but it's raining you're not gonna want to wear your hood and your big jacket you're gonna want just a rain jacket like this again something very small and something that can be bagged up like this again already talked about this but this is called the eye flex and you can put your phone on it anywhere you should check this out it's down below in the links wet wipes of course you can get these anywhere while you're on the road you can buy them in South America but you should always have these with you sometimes you won't find toilet paper where you're going and so you need to have these in the case of an emergency it's also good for wiping your hands keeping clean after you've taken a bus or a train or something like that especially if you're a clean freak and then this is my toiletry bag so I'm not gonna go into detail about everything's in here I'll do that in another video which I will link right here when I have it and that is for guys so I'll go over a couple things really quick you're gonna want to bring a sunscreen a facial sunscreen is probably the best something small like this if you're coming from the US or Canada Australia a Western country usually it's cheaper there once you come to somewhere like South America it's usually going to be more expensive because people don't use it so much tourists are buying it so get a little bit when you're home save yourself some money and I have a little electric shaver here which I'm not gonna go into detail if you want to see the other stuff that I have that's really good for travel then watch the toiletry bag video oh hold on guys a couple things I almost forgot that we're under the whole mess here so a sink stopper I use this to do sink laundry so when you travel sometimes it's hard to do laundry or it's expensive or you don't know where to do it you're staying in hostels so a majority of the time I will do my laundry in the sink so you just put the sink stopper in the sink throw your clothes in there with some soap and it works just like laundry so this has saved me many times I really suggest you get one of these super cheap they're in my Amazon store below check it out and then these flip flops they were hiding in the bottom of my backpack so flip flops are an essential for travel you're gonna need these if you're gonna be showering and hostels where other people are showering you want to avoid a foot fungus and always wear these and showers and then also of course if you're gonna be going to beaches or anything like that you're gonna want to wear these in the sand way better than shoe her boots like I've done many times before and then really quick these are my shoes so I spent a lot of time looking for shoes like this I wanted something that would work for every occasion so basically these you can wear these as nice shoes to a club or restaurant you can also wear them for hiking because they're kind of like boots shoes they're good for everything you can wear them with shorts because they're not high tops and you can wear them with pants as well so all occasions you can wear these they're not too hot just a pair of good brown leather boots I've linked to something that I like down below alright guys so that's how and what I pack for South America if you think I forgot something or if you have any other tips or advice on something that you have brought yourself or you would bring next time leave it in the
