decide to have the packing done for you in which case you'll need to make sure that everything is organized room by room anything you plan to carry with you should be clearly marked if you're doing your own packing then here's our guide on how to pack correctly to ensure all of your possessions arrive safely from your old house to your new house first make sure you start packing early don't wait until the last minute the more time you allow yourself to pack the more successful the packing process will be allow yourself enough time to get through all your to-do lists and still have time for a peaceful pack second whatever the season be prepared to do some serious spring cleaning sort through all your belongings and decide what is we're taking and what can be discarded get the kids involved by having them sort out toys they've lost interested and clothes that no longer fit them you can sell books at yard sale donate Legos to charity and give your sister that vaz she's always loved moving offers an excellent opportunity to downsize and take only the things you need to your new home third there's a box for everything and everything should be in its box make sure you order the proper supplies and use a liberal amount of packing paper at every opportunity your possessions will be safer and easier to handle if they're in a sturdy well padded box Isaac's is able to provide you with small medium and large boxes dish or china boxes wardrobe boxes lamp boxes and picture boxes and now for the real fondant packing start with those items that are out of season or things that are used infrequently such as winter clothing in the summer barbecue tongs in the winter collection of books and old work files remember to pack room-by-room start in a spare bedroom or a study and pack all of its contents when the room is ready use it to store boxes so they're out of the way so you continue packing without all the clutter keep the contents in each room together clearly label or color coordinate the boxes so they're clearly identifiable when they arrive at your new home idealistic contents on the top and sides of each box the more detailed the description the easier will be to find what you're looking for later you're taking advantage of Isaac's packing service it's a good idea to put aside a separate box of essentials which will keep you going in the last days of your old house through the first days of your new house everyone will need their own travel bag containing change of clothes towels toiletries prescription drugs and a few other personal items you'll also want to put together a separate supply box with things that you'll want in your new home bed linens toilet paper band-aids flatware for each member of the family a few plates and cups an all-purpose cooking pot aren't excellent ideas if you're a big coffee drinker it might be a good idea to keep a container of instant coffee handy for the first couple of days you may also need a tool kit so you can reassemble your bed after the first day moving you'll want a good night's sleep it's important to make sure that you either take this box with you or that it's the last box placed on the moving truck all of your valuable jewelry as well as important documents such as passport and insurance policies should be taken with you if you are packing make sure not to overload boxes with heavy objects place a few heavy items at the bottom and then filled up the box with lighter pieces for easy lifting do not pack hazardous or flammable materials these include paint varnish aerosol cans ammunition and some cleaning materials if you are uncertain as to what is permitted check with your mover if you have any questions place the item on the side for clarification different household items may need to be packed in different ways so I'm going to give you a quick demonstration on how Isaac's recommends you pack I'll be the last thing you want to think about when finished packing is unpacking but it's worth considering in advance although it's not as fun as say opening up presents on your birthday it can be quite fun organization is critical to a successful unpacking so do it carefully and methodically work through the unpacking room by room and since all your boxes are well labeled it should be a breeze it's a good idea to focus on the kitchen and bathroom first so you can begin to get comfortable in your new home nothing beats a hot shower and a good meal to get things off right next you can tackle the living room and bedrooms don't overdo it take it at your own pace and remember it doesn't have to be all done and what we hope that this advice has been helpful feel free to contact Isaac's moving consultant with any questions about your packing needs at Isaac's Moving & Storage
