hello everyone on this video i will show you how to access your asp.net web api or your web application from inside and outside your network just a heads up i already created a test web api and published into my local iis to do a demonstration so first step let's go ahead and show you so if i go to my site in is manage site and click browse as you guys can see here it's everything down local right using localhost only my machine has access to this all right so the first thing we need to do is we need to go look for to add the port to the firewall so let's go look for the firewall look it up on windows for windows defender firewall now go to advanced settings once the file all opens go ahead and click inbound rules so you're going to add a new row on the right side and it's going to be a port click next so specify port 81 click next and just click allow the connection and click next make sure domain private and publix it's set up and click next and just put test iis for name and description and go ahead and finish so this is pretty much it for the firewall setup now next step is open it up your iis so first step is go ahead and right click on it click edit bindings click add from the drop down from the ip address drop down go ahead and select whatever ip address you have available and let's select port 81 let's copy this ip address and let's click ok all right so this should be it for us to be able to access this site internally so let's go open a website paste my ip address and the port we specified 81 and hit enter as you guys can see here we can now access my web api within my network using my ip address my internal ip address and my port number next step is we want to be able to access this externally from outside the network so this very from internet internet service provider so i'm going to show you how i do it mine but what you what you got to do is you gotta set up port forwarding using port number 81 in this example okay so let's go ahead and uh open it up i have my internet service provider i go to the port forwarding i'm going to add a port forward i'm going to select my pc name and in this specific case here it's going to be everything is going to be set up and i'm going to set up my port number and click next give it a second and it looks like it's done like i said this very from internet server provider to another i'm gonna go ahead and click okay now my next step is i'm gonna i'm gonna go to my ip address i'm gonna get my external ip address from my ipaddress.com okay so the next thing i'm gonna do is i'm just gonna type my ip address and my port number and hit enter and as you guys can see i now have access to my web api from outside my network so if you guys have any questions or any comments just drop them below thanks for watching
