so I've made a lot of steam deck content over the last year or so and it never fails every time I make a video on the steam deck someone's always asking me to make a video on how to mod New Vegas on the steam deck so here is that video I tried to make this video as short and sweet as possible however there are a couple of things that I need to talk about before we get started first off I strongly recommend doing this tutorial with an external keyboard and mouse if you happen to have one the steam decks built-in trackpad and software keyboard will work just fine but it is a lot easier to follow along and just generally do this thing while using an external keyboard and mouse secondly and this is probably the most important make sure that you have Fallout New Vegas installed on your steendex main SSD not on your SD card this tutorial just simply won't work if you have New Vegas on an SD card now you can store your mods on an SD card but the game itself has to be on the system's main SSD and that's it this is the method that I found to work playing mod New Vegas on the steam deck so just follow along the tutorial step by step use the chapters that I've provided or slow down the playback speed of the video if need be and by the end of this video you should be able to be playing Fallout New Vegas modded on the steam deck let's get started okay so starting off you're going to need to be in desktop mode and head over to the Discover app here you'll need to download and install two things first you'll need proton tricks and the next thing you'll need is flat seal after it's installed go ahead and open flat seal and make sure that under file system you have all of these fields toggled next go ahead and open up steam find Fallout New Vegas right click on it then go to properties compatibility and make sure you have this little check box ticked and then in the drop down menu set it to proton 6.3-8 once that's done go ahead and launch New Vegas to make sure everything's working and then go ahead and quit the game [Music] next we need to get the Linux version of mod organizer 2. I'll put the link on screen as well as in the description for you once you're here click on 4.3.0 underneath releases then under assets click on the mo2 installer link after you click on it it should begin downloading and once it's done go into your file browser go to your downloads and then extract mo2 clicking on the auto detect subfolder open the folder and then right click on install.sh and then select run in console go ahead now and select Fallout New Vegas click ok then select all done hit OK and OK again foreign if you get any pop-ups like this just hit yes though you likely won't and let everything just run now if you happen to get a failed to install message and you did everything correctly do try again to run the install process following the exact same steps but if you did everything correctly you should get the installation successful message and you are now ready to download some mods so let's go and head over to Nexus mods alright so you're going to want to make a free account with Nexus mods and once that's done you can start downloading any of the mods that you're interested in I've already downloaded an alternate start mod and here is another one that I'm going to download just as an example when you have your mod that you're interested in just go to files and manually download the mod file hit slow download assuming that you have a free Nexus account then you can leave the downloaded mod in the downloads folder if you want or what I like to do is to create a mods folder and put it in my documents if you wish you can also store your mods on your SD card now after you've downloaded the mods that you want let's go to Fallout New Vegas and launch it here you'll see mod organizer 2 start its setup process go ahead and hit next and create a global instance then select New Vegas hit next and next again here you can choose to link your Nexus account to mod organizer 2 but this is not necessary and isn't required for this tutorial whether or not you linked your account hit next and finish now mod organizer will ask if you want to do its tutorial you will want to hit yes because it gives you a good rundown of how to do everything for the sake of this video and time I'm just going to hit no but you should hit yes okay so if you've done the tutorial like you were supposed to you don't really need any of this info but just in case you skipped ahead to install mods go ahead and click here then browse for your mods wherever you put them if it's somewhere on the main storage it's going to be in the Z drive and for SD cards it should be on the E Drive select your desired mod file hit open then OK and then you just need to enable the mod and you can do this by either double clicking on it or by right clicking on it and hit enable selection you can can see right here that we already have New Vegas script extender applied in mod organizer 2 by default so just go ahead and hit the play button and you should be up and running as you can see I started a new game and my alternate start and first person mods have been applied so yeah we are now all set up to play modded New Vegas I hope you found this video helpful if you did please leave a like as it does help the channel greatly and consider sharing this video with a friend who might also be interested in either the steam deck or modding New Vegas on the steam deck and also share in the comments what mods you are using and what some of your favorite mods are I'd love to hear them but yeah thanks for watching the video and checking out the channel my name is Blake and for all things Tech games to anything nerdy in between be sure and subscribe to digital cynics have a good one everyone we'll see you next time
