how to memorize your lines for an audition fast [Music] why is it important to memorize your lines because it's going to make you feel more confident in the audition room because you're prepared when you're not prepared you're going to get more nervous and you might not audition to the best of your ability i'm a firm believer that you should always have your lines fully memorized but never over prepared because if casting wants to change up how you're doing your audition you're not going to be able to take direction because you practiced it a certain way so many times so when you're memorizing a script memorize the words not the way you're saying it or your facial expressions this is how i memorize my lines number one sectioning the first thing i usually do read through my whole entire script if you need a more in-depth breakdown on how to actually analyze an audition script check out this video right here so once i've read through the whole entire script i will go through it in sections let me try and make this make sense so i take my first line and i read it until i can say it without having to look at the page then i move on to the next line so i'll say the first line and go into the second line if i have both of those memorized i can move on to the third line and it just keeps building up sometimes i'll go page by page i'll read this whole page and try and memorize the whole page and once this is all memorized and i can say it without looking at the page i will move on to the next page hopefully that made sense number two body language and cues body language cues when i associate different body movements with transitions into certain lines or while saying my lines it's easier to remember instinctively what i'm supposed to be saying because i'll know this movement is attached to that line or this movement is attached to that line let's say i get defensive in the script i'll cross my arms and i know me crossing my arms at that moment means that i'm supposed to say this line so rehearsing body movements along with your lines will definitely help you remember what you're supposed to say number three reader cues okay what is a reader's cue have an idea of what the reader's lines are so that you know what you're supposed to say after them look at the other character's final sentence that comes before your line and you'll know okay they said that so that's my cue to say this knowing the reader's lines is so important you're not going to be confused as to where you need to go or where their line finishes this definitely helps me so so much number four read before you sleep practice your script before bed for like an hour two hours and then i guarantee you in the morning you're gonna know it i remember when i was on the set of new girl i was talking to olivia rodrigo which is so crazy because she's literally blown up right now like i love her music and i'm just so inspired by her in general there were some script changes and i was talking about how i just read before bed and then i memorize it like that she said she actually does that when she takes a test or has to memorize something for school she'll read it before bed so maybe you should too pause if you're not following me on instagram girl or boy i post so much behind the scenes content on there you should totally check it out because the people who are on there get a say in what videos i release and you guys can even dm me on there and let me know some questions you have uh so yeah you should definitely go visit my instagram number five write it down some actors actually write down the words that they need to memorize so take your line and write it down maybe 10 or 20 times until you can say it out loud without looking at the page i personally don't use this method but i know it works for a lot of other actors number six memorize the format something that oddly helps me is actually seeing the script and remembering what the text actually looks like think of it as like scanning your line with your mind this sounds really strange when i'm saying my lines without looking at the page i can read the dialogue inside of my mind because i remembered what the chunk looked like on the page i know it sounds crazy but trust me when you're actually in an acting class or when you're actually acting or going to an audition you'll understand what i'm talking about because you've looked at the script so much you'll be able to read the text in your head because you remember what the format looks like on the page other actors know what i'm talking about and number seven time it takes time to get good at memorization it's really easy for me to memorize things because i've been practicing for eight years with time you'll get better at memorizing your scripts okay so i think it's time for the monologue submission i'm super excited let's see who i am today today's submission is from tayla bates she doesn't have a public instagram so she doesn't want me to plug it and this monologue is actually written by her and it's for her own tv show that she's writing no no don't you see i'm not crazy or at least i don't think i am i'm telling you victor something is going on i don't know what it is it seems to just be happening to me and i know that sounds really self-centered but i have reason to believe that you don't even exist you should just please help me figure this out i don't know what's going on if you love me the way you say you do you'll help me get out of here okay okay okay first of all this sounds like a really interesting show i want to know what this is about this is cool okay so i definitely do have some notes about this monologue so let's just get right into it i'm pretty sure the first thing we all noticed in the frame was the pops um like little action figures it would be a really easy fix if you just move them off of your desk or wherever that is you just put them on the floor we as the audience wouldn't be distracted by it would be a simple fix so next time you do it just make sure you move those try to move your eye line just so we can see the other half of your face you know we get a better profile of you i want to see your beautiful face girl and just me being nitpicky just because this is like what i prefer you don't have to change it but again just cropping a little more onto you um you have a lot of extra space above your head it's just like what i like what i noticed right off the bat is you had amazing body language love that you weren't stiff and you know being like i'm not crazy and like you're not moving your body but the thing that this self tape is missing is the facial expression because the way that you are fluctuating your voice the variance in your pitch and tone you have color in your speech which is great you're saying it in a colorful way but i'm not seeing it on your face no no don't you see zero see okay look at that good body language like you're like leaning in and you're like looking over here beautiful but i wanna see that emotion like on your face because i hear it in your voice and i see it in your body but it's not translating uh in your facial expressions no no don't you see i'm not crazy or at least i don't think i am i'm telling you victor there's something going on here something like that i feel like my acting is really bad today i apologize i'm not crazy or at least i don't think i am but i'm telling you victor there's something going on here i don't know i'm done trying to do this i tried this like five times i can't get it to a place that i like it or at least i don't think i am i'm telling you yeah even on that line or at least i don't think i am being like the freaking lines on the forehead you know what i'm saying okay and then um i think the last thing i would say is just really making sure you find the climax of your scene as the actor kind of be oh my gosh my chair i hate it to really be more frantic in the beginning so have your speech kind of faster like i don't know what i'm telling you like and i don't think i'm crazy you know but i have reason to believe that you're not real and like kind of like you're gonna then we're gonna slow down so it's kind of has these like hills and valleys and the dynamic-ness about it so it's not just all same speed so that is it for the monologue submission definitely a shorter one today but i hope you guys enjoyed the video and don't forget to subscribe i have a lot more fun content coming out and before you go don't forget to please like this video so more people find this video and my channel can grow it would mean so much to me okay and we gonna bounce we out of here i'll see you in the next one bye [Music] do
