[Music] foreign there are some aspects of cycling which are just tough whether you're racing to a line or maybe you're on a chill Spin and you just got very super steep climb you didn't know existed whilst you don't need to suffer or push through on the bike sometimes I prefer just to whack it in the easiest gear I've got and spin home there are times when it can be beneficial to learn how to dig deep and get through some of those harder moments and in this video we're going to list a few of those ways which might just help you at home if you're riding in a group and you're really starting to feel it you're worrying that you're not going to hang in there do try try and push through try and get through that little tough moment if there's an incline or faster section on the flats because the rewards are great if you do you can get back in that draft you can recover and whilst it may seem tempting to let those wheels go and ride your own pace it will be a short-term reward long term you'll suffer more because you'll be straight back into that wind you have to keep your own pace momentum going and without that draft you'll find it that bit harder so if you can dig on deep hang on in that group and also tell those around you that you're finding it hard because they're going to benefit from keeping you in that group too so they can ease up let you stay in there it's going to benefit everyone who's riding together [Music] another group related tip if you're starting to suffer and you've got a few climbs coming up is sliding room now slide room is a good old tactic used in racing means that you start the climb at the front of a group allowing yourself a bit of sliding room bit of space to slowly Edge back through the group as the climb progresses which means that relatively you're taking on that hill at a slower Pace than those around you the aim is try and hang on in there at the back just as you press that climb I mean you can stay with the Riders you're with hang on in that group oh I'm feeling the gradients right [Music] I think a positive mindset is also really important because it can be so easy to focus on the negative aspects the rain the fact you're feeling really tired maybe you're not quite as fit as you hoped for and if you zero in on those things it can be quite easy to derail yourself and lose all sorts of momentum going forward so I think try and stay positive try and keep on pushing and maybe focus on the good things in your ride The View cracking weather although I did say it was raining when you're feeling native the car you just overtook who knows whatever it may be sometimes if you force yourself to be positive look at the view that can be really powerful and allow you to motivate yourself to keep on digging and keep on pushing and distract yourself from the negative thoughts which are creeping in [Music] I guess it's also worth saying after all this sort of tips and advice on how to push through tough moments it's definitely worth considering that sometimes you do need to call it a day and accept that you've gone past your limits you've reached your point where you can't go anymore and it's time to call it because that often is the sense of approach it's all well and good to really dig deep to suffering especially but sometimes you need to be sensible and listen to your body and understand that enough is enough whether you're sick whether you've got an injury maybe you're you know really got the point of heat exhaustion or in your in the cold when you're starting to feel your body temperatures dip too much this time to enough is enough um let's call it a day there are times when you can push through you can dig deep and there's also times you need to accept that you have reached those limits I need to learn from that to your next experience and understand how that experience can then shape what comes next if you're riding and you're beginning to find it tough I think the best thing you can do is to chat chat to wherever you're with some of you met on the road someone you're riding with strike up a conversation and just have a bit of a chin wag it really does take you out of your own head it distracts you from the massive crime you're taking on the pain in your legs or the feeling of fatigue which is slowly creeping in and it can really bring you around and out of some tough tough moments on the bike so yeah if you're riding with someone strike up a conversation can be anything tubeless tires football the weather you name it you're not with anyone maybe meet someone on the road strike a little conversation how's it going what are you up to where you're riding does really help and if like me you haven't found anyone then this piece of advice might fall on deaf ears I'm just trying to strike up a conversation here with the statues stop going anywhere [Music] online games and tactics I employed to get myself through some of the harder moments back when I was racing I think creating a false Finish Line it's got to be my most used one so basically this involved pretending at the race or ride finished around 20 or 25 miles earlier than expected and then when I got to that point I'd tell myself I've got here man I'll go a bit longer keep doing that to actually got to the end of the race and it's a good way of breaking the ride down and you can trick yourself into going that bit harder that bit further and actually surprising yourself in the process too I hope this video has proved useful and given you a few tips to take on the tougher moments in cycling please do give it a big Thumbs Up And subscribe to the channel if you enjoyed it and let me know in the comments how you like to get through the tougher challenges you encounter on two wheels thanks for
