in today's video we're going to recreate some of vox's infographics from Vox famous graphs to well-designed animations all the way to their notorious map animation and we're going to be covering all of this in just one video and the great thing is once you learn all four of these animations this will set a great Foundation of being able to grasp vox's style and apply it to any video that you work on in the future now if you want to learn how to do this Vox style Iman gazi style Ali abdall Dan Co or even my style that has gotten me millions of views and sign up for our leverag editor wait list previously we dropped our course and had many successful students go through it but now we're doing something new and 100 times more valuable we will be significantly lowering the price of the course as well we're building one of the most exclusive editing Community you'll have access to the course for a much lower price as well as coaches live feedback challenges job boards and many many more things so if you want to get away from being an average editor scraping by accepting any money that comes across their plate to becoming an advanced leverage editor that attracts top influencers and brands that pay you top dollar and sign up for this weight list we'll be opening up the community very very soon and it'll be only open for 5 days we want to make sure that everyone joins is successful and has enough attention in the community so spots are going to be extremely limited sign up on the wait list to be notified first and with that let's get into this video all righty so we're here in After Effects and the first thing that we're going to create is the graph famous Gra so once you create this one you'll be set for creating other Vox style graphs the one thing that you'll hear me talk about a lot when it comes to doing this Vox style is a lot of it is really focused on the design the layout and the colors used yes animation is a factor that plays into it but design is even a bigger factor that plays into the Vox style so all these things here is going to help you train your brain to learn how to do their design style and of course we're also going to animate it as we go through so we're going to start off with this graph here first thing you want to do is have a composition of 1920 x 1080 it's all you need just copy these settings right here should be good to go now we're going to start off with the background so right click go new solid we're going to make this background color a very like light matte green so if you're following along you can type this color code in here it's almost like more of a gray but kind of tense towards green a little bit so should look like that then from here we can start building out the GD make sure nothing's selected go up to your pen tool click that I'm going to make two bars on the side so I'm going to click once right about here hold down shift this is going to allow us to make a straight line I'm going to click once right here and then click out to the right while holding shift still it's going to make that straight line click out over here of course this is not what we want we need to change the fill to nothing by clicking on the fill and hitting nothing right there looks good going to make the pixels let's see right about eight we might change that a little bit later but the Grid or excuse me these bars here should be a green greenish color so go and change that color to this darker green you can copy this color code if you're following along see how that looks a little too thick in my opinion it's one thing with Vox is really getting the size down right that's the one thing with Vox is getting the size down change that to six and it's looking pretty good from here I'm just going to center it so go to a line over here if you don't see that option you go to window and you'll see a line make sure that's checked we can Center it vertically and then also Center it horizontally next thing to do here is actually build out the Grid in the middle to do this we're going to go new solid just make this white or the same color we had before doesn't really matter cuz we're going to go to the effects and presets type in Grid you'll see under generate grid we're going to throw that onto that solid we just made as you can see it's a white grid that we have here we definitely need to change the color so over here in color we're going to double click that and type in this color code here it's just a little bit of a lighter gray from these two bars that we created hit okay it's looking pretty good I think one thing we do is just really mess with the cornering of it to get the the right sized grid one thing I want to do is just kind of bring this out to here so it's in line with the bar we're going to make it so the top over here is also lined with the top of the bar and the corn is all line here as well pretty good that's all we need what we can do from here is just toss this grid underneath and we should label everything so I'm going to label this bars so we know what that is call this grid although we're going to precompose it so let's go ahead and do that I'm going to right click on this grid layer to precompose just going to have to call it Grid or grid comp too make sure we have move all attributes into the new composition selected we just still call this grid just to keep things simple from here all we have to do is just cut out the rest of the grid so it's only following this bar super simple make sure your grid layer is selected go up to rectangle tool click on that and we're just going to click and drag at the top here just to align with these two bars that we made something like that is good so one thing I'm noticing we don't have enough grid lines here so I'm going to go back into this grid and short up the lines a little bit more not that way but more so this way we're just going to have to jump back and forth I think maybe the best thing to do is just recopy this back over delete this composition so I'm going to command V that we want to have five total points of AIS here that's good maybe we can just scale up those bars so it allows us to have better distance between these little grid points I'm just going to scale it up a little bit then we're going to go back to this grid mess with the corner points looking good make sure these bars are in the middle so just go back to the line kind of mess with it a little bit box style it's very particular in their style and in the way they size things uh so you got to just mess with it realign this this way should be good to go so we just need to do that same thing so of make that a little confusing just you know kind of realigning the grid here so I'm just going to call this grid go back up to your rectangle tool and then we can cut this out make sure this grid layer is underneath our bars and then we should be set one thing to do is just change since we scaled up just going to change the stroke to five on those green bars that we made now this is looking pretty good I think I do want to have the end here in there something like that looks a little bit better in my opinion all right so we're going to start building out the text here go up to your text tool you're going to click once and the first thing we're going to create is 500,000 uh as you see the font I'm using here is not anything good font we want to use is Europa grotesque one thing to mention that I forgot to mention in the beginning is that all the assets used in this tutorial along with the project file of what I'm doing here including the font as well so everything's going to be for free for you to download link is in the description all the project files all the project assets file all the project assets project file and you know fonts included everything is there for free for you to download so go ahead and download that link in the description all right so I have the Europa grotesque file on this for the color we want to change this to little bit of a lighter gray so we can change the color over here in the text window it just needs to be a little a little bit of a lighter gray something like that you copy the color code if you're following along take a look at that maybe even a little lighter to be honest let's go a little lighter like I said with the Vox style you're going to hear me say this all the time it's really just nailing down the design colors everything that comes with it before getting into animation so that is good now we can just duplicate this by hitting command D going to hold down shift as I drag this this is going to keep it on the same vertical plane and I'm going to just keep on duplicating it and bringing it down we'll change the actual text later so one thing I'm noticing we're actually going to have to move these all down just the way it's scaling or you know what the top one's going to have to change to 600 that's one thing I'm noticing but we'll figure that out just keep on duplicating and bringing it down now we can get it into changing the text so I'm going to speed this part up but you want to change the text to obviously go down by 100,000 for each of them all right so that's text there now we need to work on the text on the vertical plane all right so now that the text is there we need to work on the text in the X AIS to do that I'm just going to duplicate the 200,000 here drag it over put it right here duplicate it bring it over duplicate it I'm holding shift as I'm bringing it over to keep it in the same horizontal plane so from here we're just going to change this to 1980 go to the next one we want to do intervals of 10 so 1990 2000 2010 all right so we're getting the base of the graph down next is to add the text on the top here I'm just going to make a click right here just to lay down our text cursor and then type in medium us home sale price 19 what do we have here 1980 to 2010 there we go awesome so we're going to scale this up quite a bit have it fit over it maybe scale it down a little bit more go to our line here and we're just going to line it vertically that looks good and I'm going to duplicate this by hitting command D on Mac control D on PC so I drag that down while holding shift we're going to just change this and keep it in capitals here so Federal Reserve economic data us bar barrier of Labor Statistics awesome couple things we need to do to this text is first off changing it so I'm going to change it to same exact color we're dealing here with the bar so just eye dropper that maybe make it a tad bit lighter scale this down we want the size of it to be same width as the text above so right around there push this up a little bit actually need to scale it down a little bit more so probably right around 25 now try 20 3 23 seems to be it maybe 23.5 actually there we go all right so our graph is coming along one thing I think we could do is actually move the entire graph and everything with it down just a little bit so I'm going to highlight everything click and hold shift and that's going to keep it on the same vertical plane and drag it down now we can add that line pretty simple all we have to do is go up to our pen tool make sure nothing is selected in your layer this is going to allow us to create a shape with the pen tool I'm going to click one once just around here and then start to formulate a line here clicking around making a little jaggedy and it looks like right around the end it just kind of skyrockets cool so we got the line but we need to change the stroke right around 12 looks good and then we need to change the stroke color so click into that and use this color code here to follow along it's just like a matted gray here or some sort of maroon H okay there we go there's our graph so we got the design down I'm actually going to re highlight everything and move it up bit I know you's just got to play around with the with the design of everything here and the layout it's extremely important right around there is good all right so we have the look down the only thing that needs to be animated with this graph is the actual line and you'll notice with a lot of Vox stuff not that much animation actually goes into their videos it's really just a lot of welld designed things with a small amount of animation and that's what we're working on here so what we need to do for this line here is make sure you click that let's just call this line so we know what we're working with click on that layer drop it down go to uh you'll see contents here and then to the right you'll see add and this little kind of like play button icon click on that then go to trim paths so trim pass is going to allow us to animate the line so you'll see trim pass one we want to bring that down and then mess with the end depending on how you made the line you have to figure out which either to mess with the start or the end for this case it is the end so I'm going to drag that all the way down make sure my playhead is at the very beginning make a key frame end at 0% drag my play head all the way out to like let's just say 3 seconds for now and then move this all the way to 100% one thing I'm going to do is highlight both these key frames right click key frame assistant easy ease so it's a little quick my opinion we can take this last key frame and move it to around 5 Seconds looking good one final touch to add to this is a slight zoom in it's pretty simple you can highlight everything here and just pre-compose it make sure move all attributes into new content looks good we just call this graph still bring your playhead to the beginning hit s on your keyboard to bring up scale make a key frame for scale at 100% drag your play head to the right just about like let's go to around 8 seconds and scale it in so the key to scaling especially like with the Vox style and also not making it look cheesy is slight scalings this is really important I see it way too many times where people are scaling in way too much for Vox style or just for in general if you're scaling in to something typically smooth scal in is only moving by 10% so for this case we just do 110 we can watch back if it's not enough it's not enough we'll adjust it but to me it's looking fantastic all right so that is the graph we just completed that now down the style for it we're now going to move on to this court animation so create a new composition copy these settings here we'll just call this court just 1920 by 1080 hit okay so for the core animation we're going to start off with the background so right click go to new solid for this background we're just going to make it a little bit of a off-white type color you can type this color code in if you're following along hit okay hit okay one more time one thing that we need to add to this background is a image asset that is a article a very high quality image of a article I'm going to drag that on once again this will be for free for you to download along with the project file and any other assets you can find this online on Google if you want to but uh just download it it's for free I'm just going to mess around with the scale here and the positioning something like that is pretty good we're going to change this to an overlay hit t on my keyboard and adjust the opacity a little bit one thing I'm actually going to do is throw a gradient onto our white background not not the uh the article we placed down just the white background so look up gradient in the effects and tab window go over to gradient ramp and we're going to just drag that through the white solid here actually instead of dragging it to the white solid we're going to duplicate it place it on top then drag gradient ramp onto to our duplicated white solid we're going to change around the end color to a dark black or or gray and then the start color to a lighter gray Almost White from here we can just do blend with original and really just turn that up keep the article on top actually be able to see it change this blend with original to a little bit more we're going to change that end color to more of a black kind of justj the settings here and what we can do is with the article just turn down that opacity even more just gives this a little bit more of a nicer effect it's something that's very extremely subtle but these are the little things that make the Vox look from here we're going to throw in our court image just toss that in there once again this is free for you to download link is in the description along with project assets so what needs to happen here is we're going to cut this out so make sure this is selected in your timeline go over to the pen tool then we can start making a mask around this I'm going to start right here hold down shift to make a straight line click once over here hold down shift to make a straight line and click once up here we might adjust a little bit later click over here and then we're just going to really get rid of the sky here so I'm going to go super quick obviously you should spend more time masking this out but for tutorial purposes we're going to go quick here make a click right here and click onto this one I want to have these lines pretty straight so I'm just going to adjust this here bring this in a little bit make this line straight looks pretty good next thing to do is throw on a hue in saturation so just look up Hue in the effects window throw that on there and then just turn down the master s saturation to -00 next thing to do is throw a curve on here this is just going to bring out a little bit more of the darks and make the lights lighter so with this curve you'll see the white line here on this bottom part we just want to click and drag this down tad bit on the top part we want to click and drag it up a little bit so you're kind of forming a little bit of a s what this is doing is just making the darks darker and the lights lighter you know just mess around with it until you get the desired look as so I'm going to scale this down by hitting s on my keyboard and we can scale that down quite a bit actually try to keep this in the middle so I'm going to go to a line line that vertically and align it horizontally scale down a little bit more then we can duplicate this so hit command D to duplicate click and drag while holding shift to keep it on the same xaxis plane drag that to the left duplicate one more time drag this one out to the right while holding shift I'm actually going to highlight all these scale it down scale it down a little bit more just like that should be perfect all right the next thing to work on is some little squares so go to your rectangle tool make sure nothing is selected in your timeline otherwise it's not going to allow you to make an a shape layer you'll just be ma masking out you know whatever you have selected so so make sure nothing's selected and then grab that rectangle tool click and drag while holding shift we want a fairly small square the stroke we don't want that on there so get get rid of that fill we are going to change this fill we're going to change this fill to a light gray here you can copy that color code and I think the size is pretty good so what we're going to do is just duplicate this a bunch of times duplicate it once click it hold down shift drag to the right you really want to get the spacing down something like that's good so I'm going to highlight both of these hit command D drag them both to the right while holding shift ideally you should take a little bit more time aligning this stuff but tutorial purposes I'm going quick so you're just highlighting everything and then duplicating it this allows you to compound what you've already created before it makes things go a lot faster that's good take all these what we can do here is take this top row by clicking on each of them while holding shift just to select that top row hit command D click and drag and hold down shift bring it to the left going do that one more time duplicate all of them click and drag to the right while holding shift should be good over there we can do on this one is just delete a couple squares I think that's good and this one could get the ends deleted all right this is coming along let's go ahead and animate this so to do that I'm just going to put everything in a composition by highlighting all the squares right clicking hitting pre-compose and then we'll just call this squares so to animate this what I'm going to do is make sure that it's selected in the timeline cu show up to my rectangle tool and we're going to create a box here or a mask I'm want to create it just like that so once that's created you'll see the mask drop down if you don't see that just go into squares you'll see mask drop that down go to mask one drop that down we're going to mask the pass so create a key frame make sure your play heads at the beginning okay so now that we have that mask and the key Point created we're going to just drag our play head out to the right by a couple seconds probably 3 seconds here I'm going to hit V on my keyboard I'm going to click out of the Mask it's going to come up with this little option here I'm going to click on this corner one it's going to highlight that while holding shift I'm going to also click on this corner one now I can take both of these while holding shift over to the right to make sure everything appears here we play this back not bad so we can highlight both of these key frames right click key frame assistant easy ease from here we can take this graph editor just by clicking that while both key frames are highlighted click on this one on the right it's going to pop up with this little yellow icon and this little dot here click on that dot drag that all the way to the left and get out of the graph editor so we play that back it's going to look a little bit more uh smooth I guess you could say in a way and drag this in a little bit cool this is getting pretty good next thing to do is add some text at the top type District quarts highlight this and scale that up so the font that we're going to use with this is a little bit different we're just going to type in Molina Molina serif and I believe bold once again this font will be a available for you to download link in the description for free along with the project file and all the rest of the assets that come with it so I'm just changing it to a gray here we can just copy this same exact gray we're actually going a little bit darker might work play nicely here cool this is looking fantastic now we're going to add the finishing touches to this animation here first thing that we want to do is take everything but our background layers and precompose it so highlight all of it pre-compose we can just call this District quartz design hit okay bring my play head to the beginning s on my keyboard make a key frame for scale drag my play head all the way to the right just by like four or actually we'll bring it out to like 9 seconds here scale that up once again you want to be smooth with scaling so we'll just go by like 110 see how that looks may be a little too much maybe like 105 we'll see how that plays okay 105 is a little too slow maybe we'll go up to 108 108 looks good another thing that we want to add to this is an adjustment layer so right click new adjustment layer and we're going to add a a little bit of that drop frame effect that Vox applies to like 90% of their animations this is exactly how they do it and that drop frame effect is like you'll notice in their animations it feels a little bit jittery or there's some missing frames well that's because they apply this effect to it so to do that we're going to look up in the effects window here posterized time so under time you see posterized time drag that onto our adjustment layer and we'll just change the frame rate to 12 what this is doing is changing this from a 30 second uh or whatever the composition position is it might be 60 seconds I believe down to a 12 second frame rate 12 frames per second excuse me and uh yeah it gives a little bit of that jittery effect and feel to it I'm also going to throw on a overlay to this uh this is an overlay that my team and I have made once again this will be free for you to download thr this the overlay on I'm just going to align this so it's sitting in the center here what we can do is change this to add hit t on the keyboard actually instead of add I'm going to change it to exclusion this is just going to change everything everything that's white to black and get rid of the black as well for the opacity we just want to change this down to 12% yeah there we go there's our district court animation we're now going to move on the plan animation super simple create a new composition by right clicking over here new composition keep it 1920 by 1080 that's okay and we can start with the background background's pretty simple we're just going to make a new solid here hit okay go your to your effects and presets look up gradient throw on gradient ramp to the solid so for the star color we're actually going to make this a fairly just like very light gray pretty much white hit okay for the end color we're going to make this a just a little bit of a darker gray here nothing too crazy I'm actually going to change this to like a full white think that look a little bit better so something like that once again it's really subtle but this is the the subtleties is what makes the Vox style that's why it looks so good uh it's the little things that they pay attention to and you know coloring is a big part of it so make sure you nail that down with the background and we're going to move on to adding this plane in here once again for like the 90th time the assets are available for you to download including this plan plain image so I'm going to throw this on and with this plain image what I want to do is precompose it first and you want to pre-compose this in a very specific way so I'm going to right click pre-compose and I'm going to check this off and we want to do this first cuz if we don't do this first we won't be able to have this option leave all attributes in comp 3 or you know whatever you name your comp you can name name it plane comp but I'm just going to name this plane and hit okay so what's happening here is when we make a pre-composting open it up in a composition where it's its full resolution which is extremely important cuz now we go back to comp 3 and we want to zoom in on it and you know create some things in this composition it's going to be its full quality it's really important so back into this plane composition we're going to hit s on my keyboard to scale just scale it up uh just before like the wings are out of frame that looks good I'm might add a little bit of sharpness to this the key is to really get a high quality asset uh this is the highest quality I could find so in the effects and preset look up sharpen let's throw that on there increase this uh to right around let's try like 34 then we're going to throw on a hue and saturation so look up Hue you'll see that Hue and saturation throw that on there take the master saturation and bring that down I'm going to throw on a curves as well for the curves all we need to do is just drag that down drag that up okay now now it's time to get into making that infographic for the plane or the plane seating chart this is something that Vox always does where they just like show the inside of some sort of image or element that they're showing on screen so this is a good example and messing with colors and understanding their black and white style so go to your rounded rectangle tool make sure nothing's selected in your composition and then we're just going to click and drag right here to make a rounded rectangle in about this size here so we want to round this off a little bit more do that you'll see under contents in the shape layer you'll see rectangle path bring that down and then you'll see roundness I'm just going to up that until you know it's fully rounded we're also going to want to add a stroke to this take this I think we want to make it around like two keep it white for the fill we want to make it a little bit of a darker gray something around here looks good all righty next thing to add is that seating chart in there so with that rounded rectangle tool selected we are going to just make another little rectangle here we want it pretty small something like that is good good but we need to undo the roundedness on it once again to do that go to your shape layer go to that rectangle drop it down rectangle path roundness is at 20 we just want to make it like eight I think that's fine and then change the stroke color to white and then change the stroke to one pixel here we also want to position this right and then we're going to duplicate this a bunch of times to nail down that seating chart so I'm going to click on this top layer hit command D click and drag while holding shift bringing that to the right so we want it around like that distance how both those layers command D click and drag bring it to the right and it's really just this process on repeat is just kind of compounding your layers that you're creating here clicking dragging while holding shift dragging it to the right and I'm going to do that a couple times I'm going to speed up this part here all right so I created my all the seats here it's a little bit too big I want to make like a two separate rows here so what I'm going to do is highlight everything it s on my keyboard and then we can scale this down once scale down I am going to move it in into position I'm going to take all these shapes in the bottom layer hold down shift I'm going to just move them closer to the other layer all right so I'm going to make some little rows here so I'm going to just delete like this right here okay make another little row here think something like that's good then we're going to go to our pen tool make sure nothing else is selected I'm going to make a little line here so click once hold down shift make a line keep the stroke width at one what we can then do is just duplicate this by hitting command d v on your keyboard drag this down while holding shift duplicate again drag it over here while holding shift duplicate again drag up while holding shift and I'm going to duplicate it actually I'm going to create another little line right here just a little bit of a bigger line keep it at one stroke width or one stroke pixel or keep it at one pixel for the stroke and yeah there we go so there's our plane it's looking good now we're going to go back to our comp 3 and we're going to animate it and add one other little thing to it so to animate it let's scale it down first of all and we want it to animate in so we want that size right there make sure your play head's at the very beginning let's drop down this and see the transform tools or the transform settings we'll do position and scale so what we want to do now that we have these key frames is drag this to the right let's just say about like 2 and 1/2 seconds then keep your play at at the beginning for the position we're going to drag it all frame as you drag it hold down shift it's going to allow you to uh drag it much quicker and easier so then we can watch that back coming into frame okay so what we can do from here is highlight the the position key frames right click key frame assistant easy ease go to the graph editor click this right here and then drag that to the left all the way get out of the graph then we can watch back from here you're just going to drag this scale key frame almost to where it gets to the end of that plane and I'm going to drag my play head out to the right to around 5 seconds and we're just going to scale that up just like that should be good we want to do the same thing with the scaling as making those um just making it a little bit smoother so right click both of those key frame assistant easy EAS go to that graph editor click this on the right drag that to the left should be good to go awesome so the next thing to do is add the text in here so go to your text tool click once and we're going to type in a 320 seating chart scale that down a little bit I'm going to make it a little bit darker by copying the same color we used for the interior of the plane we're also going to change this to Europa once again you'll have this font to download for free mess with the sizing a little bit something like here is good I'm going to duplicate this by hitting command D clicking drag while holding shift then we're going to just change this to base on United Airlines seating chart highlight all this text that we just created change the fill to a light not too light but something like that should be good scale this down we want to add it to the front here I'm actually going to scale it up T bit more just like that so now we need to animate this text I'm going to work on the bigger text first and then we'll move on to the smaller text so for the bigger make sure that is selected the A320 seating chart go up to your rectangle tool create a mask just like this off to the side and then you'll see the mask options here go down the mask option and then create a key frame for mask path drag your play head to the right by just like a second or two hit V on your keyboard click out of the Mask click on the mask on it right here click out like on the screen and then you'll see like these two options here you just want to click on this one hold down shift click on that one drag them both to the right while holding shift just to where it comes on frame and there we go we can highlight both these key frames right click key frame assistant easy ease go to the graph click this bring it to the left and we should be good a little too quick so I'm just going to drag it out awesome I'm actually going to throw this exact mask onto the text at the bottom here so highlight both these key frames hit command C on a Mac control C on PC then I'm going to bring my playhead to the very beginning and hit command V that's going to paste the mask then I'm going to hit U on my keyboard to bring up the key frames that we just made I'm going to jump to this key frame here at the end what I want to do is just actually change this a little bit where I'm going to click on this one while holding shift get these highlighted and then bring it to just when it's you know right after the T here all right so then we have to stagger this as well so we want that A320 coming in just like that a little bit of Staggering there then what we could do is highlight both of these and move it to the right to figure out the best time to bring it in so right like right here might be a good time yeah that looks good all right so now it's time to add that Finishing Touch on to this all you have to do is right click on a new adjustment layer we're adding that posterized time once again this is what gives it a jittery or drop frame rate kind of look I'm going to change the frame rate to let's try 16 see how that looks looks fantastic as you can see that's something that Vox always adds to like 90% of their animations that's how they get that jittery look to it all right so now we are moving on to their famous maps that Vox creates I'm going to show you exactly how they do it you'll be able to take this and and you know work it into any edit that you're going to be doing in the future so there's a couple key steps we need to follow first is I have a composition here just 1920 by 1080 and then the second thing is having a really high quality map asset something that is extremely big in resolution because you're going to be zooming in on it now I have an asset for you to download of course the link is in the description for free along with the project file and any other asset in this video so let's drag that on this Vector world map I'm going to drag it on I'm not going to touch anything yet we want to pre-compose this first so to do that I'm going to right click pre-compose and this is extremely important as I was saying in the last composition we're working in the plane we want to do the same for the map is leave all attributes in map and then we can just title this map what this is going to do is going to allow us to double click into this layer and it's going to bring it up in its full quality so that when we are zooming in on our actual composition as we zoom in the quality is just going to maintain itself it's not going to get pixelated if we precompose it the other way uh and we tried zooming in on it it would become pixelated so in this case it's not we have a high quality map layer here couple things I'm going to do to this first is I'm going to change the black color to more of a gray so I looked up change to color we're going to throw that onto the map I'm going to take the from and the eye dropper tool so this black here and bring it to a gray something like that change the Hue to Hue in lightness bring that lightness down to like 4% and then we're just going to make this a little bit darker don't want a black black but we just want it like a SL light gray to it like that is good we might end up changing it a little bit but should be good for now next thing right click new solid just hit okay it doesn't matter what the color is cuz we're going to make a grid look that up in the effects window here grab this grid under generate and throw it onto that solid we're going to change the color to a black and then we're also going to make more grid lines here so what we want to do is go to corner and drag it until where these a lot more lines start to appear and we of course want to make it in a square even think a little bit more better in this case so like that should be good so I'm also going to turn down the opacity hit t on your keyboard take that opacity down just like that go 13% from here we're going to just put in some assets around the map to lay out the different parts in the world once again assets are free for you to download along with the project file Link in the description okay so let's start off with the pyramid here I'm just going to drag that on I'm going to scale it down quite a bit and make sure we're placing it in the right area here right there should be good let's also throw a hue in Satur ation on top of this turn the saturation down to 00 let's throw a curve on it as well curve is just going to bring out the darks are just going to make the darkers darker and the lights lighter to do that though you just need to take this bottom of the curve drag that down take the top of the curve drag it up to where we're forming a s with this white line makes it look a little bit nicer let's drag in the other icons here so I have this building for Tokyo in Japan scale that down right about here and what we could do is actually throw on these same effects so click onto your pyramid layer click on Hue and saturation hold down shift and click on curves that'll allow you to highlight both effects and then hit command C or contrl C on a PC click on the Tokyo Tower here and hit command V to paste those effects let's add the other asset we have which is the White House throw that on there scale this down significantly zoom in change this to 5% we're going to throw on those effects that we have should already be copied so hit command V one thing I'm noticing is I'm not liking the curves on this so I'm just going to delete the curves and keep it as is with just the Hue and saturation on it so I'm also going to have a little uh I guess highlight point just go up to your ellips tool and let's make a circle here no stroke on this let's change this to a yellow cuz Vox likes using yellow hit okay I'm going to turn down the opacity drag this behind my white house and all my other layers we should have that so it's just like a little like hey this is a marker point I guess you could call it let me scale it down a little bit right right there so ideally the the White House should be in that location and then we can duplicate this so command D drag that over to our pyramid command it drag it over to our Tokyo Tower and we just want to scale this one down a little bit more just cuz Japan's a pretty small area compared to the rest of the world all right one thing with the US side just to show a little bit of extra of a highlight I'm going to create a stroked line around just part of the map here this is super simple make sure nothing selecting your timeline go up to your pen tool and I'm just going to just draw a little stroke around here of course if you're doing this you want to uh spend a little bit more time outlining this but I'm just going super fast for tutorial purposes okay so I have our little shape here we want to get rid of the fill though uh before we actually do that I'm going to copy this color command C then get rid of the fill okay up the stroke a little bit probably right around eight looks good for now and we'll command V paste that color code into the stroke color option I'm actually going to turn down the stroke to let's just try six here again six looks good then we're going to bring this below everything that we got here and then we also want to animate it out so to do that we want to go into our shape layer let me just organize for you a little bit more here we go we'll just call it highlight stroke so in the Highlight stroke we want to go and drop that down right across from contents you'll see add click on that do trim paths and then trim paths will appear under the contents click the down arrow for the trim paths and then you'll see start and end so depending on how you drew it you want to figure out which one you need to manipulate here it's either start or end in this case it is end so I'm going to bring that at zero create a key frame make sure my play head's at the very beginning drag my playhead out to the right probably like 4 seconds make that 100 all right so we have that Trace in it it's looking good I think we've done everything we could in this particular composition we're now going to move on to actually animating it out now when we animate this out it's not going to look good until the end cuz there's a few effects at the end that we need to apply to it that's going to really tie this animation together so just bear with me go through these steps I promise you at the end it's going to look spectacular all right that's a good word but let's uh let's keep this going first off we want to make this a 3D layer okay then I'm also going to hit s on my keyboard scale it out just so it fits on screen can also position it in a little bit better all right so now that it's a 3D layer what we need to do is go into all the options here so I'm just going to key frame everything just to make it easy in case we just end up manipulating something as we go about this but keep frame everything out make sure playhead at the beginning then let's drag it up by like 2 or 3 seconds I'm going to scale in I'm also going to mess with the X rotation and make it a little bit flatter here I also want to zoom in on Japan first I think that would be pretty cool we could scale in a little bit more awesome so now we have our key frame set let's drag to the right by you know another 3 seconds or 2 and 1/2 seconds then we're going to move to Egypt with the pyramids so as we move to towards Egypt with the pyramids I'm actually going to zoom out a little bit more and then I I think mesing with a different kind of rotation here we'll try Z rotation would be good and just drag it so it's in the center that should be good I'm going to drag my playhead out to the right by another 3 or so seconds and then we want to make our way over to the way house in the United States all right so for this I'm actually going to zoom out quite a bit then we want to mess with the rotation here just kind of bring it back to something a little bit normal there we have it so we have a little bit of an animation here so one thing I'm noticing ing is somehow Japan got thrown off here let's just reposition that I don't know how that happened that was weird just kind of go through this to make sure the everything's at where you need it to be there we go all right so animation looks a little cheesy right so what we want to do is highlight all these key frames right click key frame assistant easy ease this is just going to make it feel a little bit smoother we might have to adjust some settings here as we go about it so I think one thing is just kind of taking these key frames and spreading them apart just a little bit more would help then for Japan just making sure that's in the midd middle all right there we go we have a solid little animation now it's time to tie this in we're going to add the finishing touches to this it's going to look a whole lot better once we do so the first thing to do is create a camera and we're going to do this in a specific way so right click new camera we're going to change this to 50 mm we're going to also check off enable depth of field for the f- Stop we want to change this to 0.9 this is going to give us blurry depth the field to it I'll explain what I mean as we go about this you you'll see uh so what we need to do here is go to two views drop down the camera go to camera options and then I'm going to turn up the aperture by quite a bit here so I'm going to hold down shift and just drag to the right we'll keep it at 2,000 for now we're just probably going to have to change it as we go about but let's click on our map layer and hit U where this is going to bring up every key frame that we made so that we can align this depth of field with where the key frames are at so what I'm going to do here is jump to the Japan key frame as we can see everything is out of focus that's why we need to mess with the depth of field so so one thing I forgot to do is create a key frame for Focus distance and then we're going to jump to that Japan key frame so now that's there what we can see is where the map is in 3D space and then where our Focus distance needs to be so this significantly needs to be dragged out and if you can't see this view here make sure two views is selected and then click into this View and if it doesn't look like this make sure classic 3D is selected and that the camera that you have selected is right that's how you get to this view so back to the focal distance we want to make sure Japan is in frame here I'm going to jump to the next key frame which is Egypt we want to make sure this is in focal distance as well jump to the next key frame which is the US and keep this in distance so we're going to watch that back and see how it is so it gets really blurry we what we need to do is also ease this in so it kind of matches but yeah so this kind of needs to start off a little bit different here so right when it starts getting blurry we're going to mess with the focal distance and bring things into Focus just kind of got to go about it a little bit just mess with it as you go about just change it up a little bit you know if you want on your side you could add some text in there uh different pictures whatever you need to do but you can see it's like it's looking a lot nicer with the camera Focus field of depth applied to it one more thing to do with the camera is actually change this to hexagon it's going to add a little bit of a nicer blurriness to it but yeah this is it with the making a a little bit better the last thing we can throw on it is a grain layer so I'm going to go right click new we're going to go to adjustment layer I'm going to look up in the effects and presets grain we're going to do add grain throw that onto our adjustment layer we got to also switch back to one view change this to final output for the color just do monoch chromatic and we're just going to change this to 0.5 see how that looks so 0.5 looks good so one thing with the map if you want it to be a little bit smoother highlight these key frames and I have a plugin called flow I forget whether if it's uh free or you have to pay for it I want to say it's free definitely download this plugin it allows you to manipulate the easing of the key frames a lot easier uh just with this graph here so if you download it have this graph and then just make it look like this so it's just taking this dragging it making a little s here copy this to the T and then hit apply this is going to add a little bit of a nicer animation effect to it of course after you do this you might have to mess with the focal distance key frames but overall it's just going to make it look a lot better and there you guys have it that's the map effect that Vox uses and with that that's the end of the Vox tutorial now if you want to learn how to do this a lot quicker and more Advanced Techniques uh even the Iman gazi style this style Vox style Ali abdall style Dano style and the style I've done for myself that's got me millions of views then make sure you sign up on our leverage editor Community weight list previously we dropped a course that was very beneficial and we had many successful students who went through it who were able to become an an advanced editor and animator and attract top paying clients to where they're paying them you know a couple thousand a month even you know anywhere up to $88,000 a month we had people go through that course and had many successful people doing that but we want to provide a 100 times more value to all the editors out there and really help differentiate yourself from being an average Editor to becoming a top level Advanced leverage editor so we're making our course into a community it's going to be it's going to be everything that we taught in the course no nothing's going to be left out but we're going to even add more to it where there's coaching live calls live feedback weekly assets weekly project files challenges and much much more and this is going to be at a reduced price from what our course was once again the course will be in there so make sure you're on The Leverage editor Community wait list there's going to be a limited spots available as we want to make sure that people who come into the Community First are going to be successful and be able to learn all the Advanced Techniques and most importantly track top paying clients so with that make sure you're on the way list once again you'll be notified once the course and Community release limited spots and it should be releasing in the next week or so so make sure you're on that list with that I'll see you in the next tutorial
