you guys know that song by Eminem called Rap God where he goes absolutely crazy in that one part where he goes uh I can't do it but if you know it leave it down in the comments but that's what it feels like making this layout that we're going to do today so let's [Music] go so we're going to start off by going to in design and creating our files this is what setting I'm using I'm changing this to inches so that you guys can see this a little bit better feel free to copy this I'm not going to go too deep into this it'll also be on the top left of the screen so copy this and then create the document now here's the twist for today before we head into InDesign we're actually going to use illustrator to help us out for these super graphy elements on our page but don't worry it's super simple we're just doing one element and then we're copying everything back into in design so let's switch over well guys it's the New Year's and today's sponsor is myself I just want to shout out that if you guys ever need Adobe or if you're trying to get it for the new year I have a affiliate link down the description it'll help support the channel but that's it that's my short sponsorship shout out okay here in illustrator what I'm going to do is navigate over to where this line tool is now I'm going to right click on the line and then I'm going down to Polar grid tool we're trying to make the spiral that the text is going to sit on so I'm going to click anywhere on the page just one single click and it's going to bring up the polar grid tool options now for our layout I found that 35 for the concentric dividers which is how many circles there are is exactly what we want and we definitely don't want any radio dividers these are weird lines that you don't want in your actually layout so make sure that this is on zero I'm going to go ahead and create this shape and I'm going to just drag this to the middle here now what I want to do is split this thing in half but before we do that we have to right click and then group it you might have to do this a couple times so here I need to do it two times and then we're going to go over to the direct selection tool which is on the top left here and all we're trying to do is split this in half we're trying to select half of it so again if I just draw a visual indicator of where half is for myself and drag it over something like that we're just trying to select the top half okay so we're going back into direct selection tool which is shortcut key a and we're going to try to drag so that we select just the top half now you can see you have the right selection when you have these weird handles that are all the way on the top side but not on the bottom side what we're going to do is go into edits and then we're going to cut so that half of it is gone but we're going to place that right back in so we're going to edit and then paste in place then we're going to go into our direct or sorry normal selection tool which is shortcut key V and all we're going to do is just drag it over so it makes a spiral I'm going to hold shift while I do this so that it doesn't go randomly up or down now when we have our correct snap on you can see that it's going to basically connect connect to the ones on the bottom once we see that and once we see two spirals coming out from the middle we can go ahead and delete this guideline and we're also going to delete half of this so that we only have one spiral left let me show you what I mean so if I want to delete one of the spirals all I have to do is go in and delete every other line like this so go ahead and do that now we're left with this we're going to delete the other half it's very easy to see which one is left over so we're going to delete the other half as well hey while we're watching this make sure you guys check out the website I know the jwar is super rough right now I had a couple friends that are being laid off so we have a resume template for free on our website hopefully it helps you guys out so check that out all you have to do is put your email on it and then we'll send it straight to your email okay great now we have our base for when we put the text onto this shape what we're going to do is join everything together because right now it's kind of in two parts right we can select this line we can select this line we're going to join everything together so it's one part so select everything go into object object path join now it's one single path that we can type on but if you refer back to what we're trying to do here we kind of want this line to taper off and wrap out over on this side on the right right now the ending is on the left which is not what we want so we're going to select this we're going to go into objects transform and we're going to go into reflect now it's going to be reflected vertically meaning in this axis and we're just going to hit okay now you can see that the tail end is on the right side which is exactly what we want if we want it to die off into the right side of the page okay that's it that's all we needed from illustrator we're going back into in design but before that make sure you copy this shape so contrl + C and then we're going back into in design and anywhere over here crl V to paste this in great so now that we have this shape over here I'm just going to make it a little bit bigger so that it occupies a little bit more space on this page we're trying to basically make this path swirl over here and then up and out of the page so what we're going to do is go to the direct selection tool and then we're going to just select this select this point right here and then maybe drag it out a little bit and adjust it so that you know there's potential for it to curve all the way over on the other side so drag the different control points until you find one that kind of makes sense that looks pretty good and then we're going to go into our pen tool and then we're going to just try to connect these so that it's One path so once you see that little minus sign beside my pen tool you're going to click on that that just means it's going to continue this path and then if I zoom out and I just drag a couple of very wide Strokes so like this and then like that perfect you can see that I have a line that is connected to the other path now it's not super goodl looking I have this very jagged edge here and we can smooth that out so we can you can go into our direct selection tool and then just drag this and these control points until you find one that's not not bad like it's pretty good if you guys are having trouble really smoothing this part out you can go over to the smooth tool now you might have pencil tool over here you just have to right click and then go into smooth tool and then you just have to kind of guide your mouse so that it's it's going and doing what you want that's basically what you're trying to do with the smooth tool now once I have this the rest is super easy I'm going to go ahead and just right click on the type tool so you find the type on a path tool and we're just going to add a bunch of text now I'm just going to fill this in with a bunch of placeholder text you guys can fill it with whatever text you need you might need to if you are doing it with placeholder text you might need to do this a couple of times um but once you have it filled in it'll look something like this that's great so what I like and what I found to be super successful when I'm doing something like this is I like to have all of these in uppercase so right here is an option where you can change all the letters into uppercase and it just makes it look a little bit better in my opinion now I like to use a font like a fura something that is sanser so that looks pretty good I might change this into more of a bold font so I'll use medium here and yeah that looks good what we're going to do is we have this line that we don't really want on the bottom here and what we're going to do is just go into the stroke and just check it off it'll be gone just like that super easy we have this super good looking spiral of words but we want to cut off the middle maybe we want to put a picture there or something like that and what we're going to do is just click on the thing that we just created you guys are going to see these three controls once at the very end and it looks like this with a line and maybe you have a box maybe you don't this just means I have words that are not in the frame itself you're going to see this at the very beginning here and you're going to see something in the middle here that looks also like a little T now we're going to be manipulating this first one over here and all you're going to do is drag this make sure that when you Mouse over this you have that little pointy Arrow icon right beside my cursor and you're just going to drag this until a point that you think looks good so if I am dragging this out all it's doing is it's pushing the beginning of the letter to where this line is okay so however you big you want your image to be you can drag this out and just push it all the way back until you where you need it so if I want something like this and I want a frame in the middle I'm going to go over here to the rectangular frame tool and I'm going to right click and create a ellipse frame tool and I'm just going to hold shift while I do this to make a perfect circle and I'm going to line that up so that it's you know pretty much in the middle of where my text is something like that could work pretty well and I can just drag and drop an image inside of this text frame so I'm going to use this image over here drag and drop and I'm going to right click fitting fit frame proportionally I might adjust this I don't like how the bottom is clipped out like that so I'm clicking or I'm double clicking into the frame and then once this brown border pops up I'm going to just adjust this and find something that I really like so maybe something like that hit W to preview yeah that looks pretty good I'm going to give this a little bit of effect just so it seems like there's like a little bit of a cutout so I'm going over to effects on the right if you guys don't have this window and then you just have to turn on effects right here so get into effects we're going to click on this on the bottom and then we're just going to do inner Shadow so I'm giving it a quick inner shadow play around with the distance if you guys need but I like the default as the way it is and yeah that looks pretty good so to finish this left page off what we're going to do is give it a little bit of a background so I'm going to drag out a rectangular frame tool all the way in the back of this page and then I'm going to give it a texture now you guys can use a solid color if you want but I'm just going to use a nice texture that I found um into the background over here now you can see that it is going to be on the front so we're going to right click we're going to go into arrange and then send this all the way to the back now if I'm printing this full bleed make sure I am dragging this all the way out to the bleed on this Outer Edge and then I'm just going to fit this one more time like that okay great that looks pretty good uh we're going to finish this page off by just giving a little bit of a quote on the bottom with a little bit of a graphic so go ahead and start another text tool something like that I'm going to use a middle Justified or aign set Center for my text and then I'm just going to put I don't know a quote I feel like a quote would really help here so we're also going to just give it a bit of a line on the bottom and for the color of this line we're just going to sample this image that we put in so this red is a highlight color that we can use so I'm going to give that a red color for the line now we can change the stroke of this line and it'll just become thicker and narrower we can preview that that looks pretty good so moving on to the right side we're going to give these letters a little bit of color but before we do that let's anchor this image with another picture so all I'm going to do is drag this picture over to the right and I did that by holding ALT key in Windows now I'm going to just make this a little bit bigger and have the edge of this circle parallel to what we're trying to do with the text there or just make it seem like that there is a relationship between this one and that Outer Edge line right there so I'm going to fit this Frame proportionally and then I'm going to input another image so instead of the cut in effect I think I will want this one to be more of a pop out effect so we're going to effects again we're checking off the inner Shadows we're going to put in drop Shadows instead you can already see it over here and we're just going to hit okay so that makes it looks like it pops out a little bit which is I think it looks better so now that we have that we can add a couple of texts over here just to fill out the page so I'm going to go ahead and use a text like this [Music] so that looks pretty good we're going to do the last thing which is my favorite thing is we're going to make these letters uh ever so slightly bigger than the next because these letters are popping into the next page we really want to highlight these guys so maybe we'll start right here at this first word and all we're going to do is adjust this to be 14 next word highlight it we're going to do not 14 18 next letter select it and we're going to do something like a 24 and then the next one we're going to do 30 you guys get the deal okay that makes it pop out and it looks like the words are getting bigger and bigger as it comes out from the page you guys can play around with this until you find one that actually makes sense then we're going to give these letters or words rather a highlight character because some of these words are undoubtedly going to be more important than some of the other ones so we can go ahead and actually sample these colors so if I want them to symbolize this red we can go ahead and just double click on that stroke copy the hex code so I'm going to copy that and then we can actually just go in highlight some of these words so maybe I want santias to be a different color I can double click on this fill right here paste in the hex code and you can see that my word has already changed now I accidentally added a line so make sure that you don't do that and I'm going to change that back to none we can also add this to some of the other ones and boom what do you know there we go we already have it so that's how I was able to make and now you guys are able to make this amazing layout with the help of Illustrator but most of this is super easy if you have learned anything new please don't hesitate to leave a like And subscribe it really helps the Channel I want to know what you guys did for your new year so let me know down in the comments as well but with that said I'll see you guys in the next [Music] one
