HOW TO: Make The Best Color Correction I After Effect's Beginner Guide

finally I finished my edit now let me take a look at it what the hell is this the quality looks so boring and bad even though I used 4K Clips when I go on Tik Tok and watch other people's edits I get Amazed by their quality but I somehow can't achieve the same for my own videos if only I knew what to change if you don't want to have your edits look like them goofy cap card editors one of the most essential steps is going to be adding a good color correction to your edit so don't worry because today I will show you step by step how you can make a color correction that looks exactly like this as you can see in my case I want to add the color correction to a clip of Joe mama and how we're going to add it is pretty simple we're not going to add it onto the actual clip but on top of a new adjustment layer on top of the clip this is just much easier and will save us a lot of time because the adjustment layer just affects all the layers below them so to now create a new adjustment layer just head to the top row under layer select new and click adjustment layer as you can see you now have a new layer and the first effect we want to apply to our color correction is going to be the sharpen effect which will as the name already says sharpen up our image so go ahead to your effects and presets panel and search for sharpen select the normal one and just drag it onto your adjustment layer now depending on what Clips you use you always have to adjust these settings but in this case I'm going to go for 50 so go ahead and change the value from 0o to 50 I know this seems like it doesn't do a lot right now but throughout the process of adding all the other effects is going to make a huge difference be aware putting a lot of sharpen on your clip might increase the grain of it though so keep it in a moderate amount next effect we want to add is the unsharpen mask so just go ahead to your effects and presets panel and search for unsharpen and I'm going to use the BBC unsharp mask just drag it onto your adjustment layer and now these settings are very important essentially The unsharp Mask just detects the edges of of the pixels and therefore we change a contrast of them which will result in you having a way higher quality and for the radius we're going to put that amount from 1 up to 30 and the amount we're going to put from 50 down to 15 as you can see this already added a lot more depth but we're nowhere near the end yet the next effect we want to add is the looks effect so just go to your effects and presets panel and search for looks drag it onto your adjustment layer and click on this little blue box that says edit once you click on that it should open up a whole new window and by the way if at any point of this video you can't find the effects in your After Effects it's probably just due to you not having the right plugins installed so if you want to get them for free right now make sure to click the link in the description to my Discord server and download them from there and to now edit effect with in magic bullet looks we're going to click on this little plus sign you see at the bottom just click on that and you can see that there's a whole new bar with all of the effects popping up and the one we want to select first is the one that's called colorista you can see under color correction right here so now put it on your clip just click on it once and you should see it's now in this bar so click on that to start off we're going to increase the exposure and make the clip a bit brighter now all these circles we don't need to change but we're going to start by putting the exposure up a bit to make the clip a bit brighter so go ahead and put it from 0 to 0. too roughly just wreck the slider ahead and then next for the contrast we also want to put this up from zero to 1.2 just wreck the slider till it's roughly at 1.2 next we're going to put the saturation from 100% all the way down to 45% so just drag the slider again till it's roughly at where you want to have it and last but not least we're going to put the Hue from zero down to minus 3 Once that's done slide your cursor to the bottom right of the screen where it says tools and now we're going to add another effect so scroll down and select channel mixer as you can see we now unlocked some new settings and with these settings you really have to play depending on what clip you want to do but some good Universal values that you can use for almost every clip are going to be The Following start by putting the red amount a bit up from 1 to 1.5 the green we're going to leave at zero and we're going to put the blue from 0o up to 0.2 now click on the tools again and select the spot exposure right here now what the spot exposure does is pretty self-explanatory it just adds the exposure effect at a certain place and this value we're going to put up from 0 to 0.4 again how much you want to put is going to be dependent on how bright your clip is once that's done go to the bottom right and click this little check mark and all these effects should now also be applied to your screen but don't worry we're not done yet the next thing we want to do is add a curves effect so just go to your effects and presets spel and search for Curves drag it onto the adjustment layer and now we're just going to go ahead and slightly drag it down right here just do it a little bit don't go too much and the next effect we want to add is the hu/ saturation so just go ahead and search for that in your effects and presets panel and drag it onto your adjustment layer and the only thing we're going to change in here is the saturation just put it up from zero to 12 and now once we've done that we're going to add the looks Effect one more time don't worry you're not tripping yes we have to add it twice just so it's a bit more organized and easier to work with so go ahead into your effects and presets panel and search for looks again drag it onto your adjustment layer and you should now have it twice again we're going to click on edit and once we're back in this cool window which capot editors can only dream of we're going to click on to the plus and this time apply the Hast / flare effect to start with the spillage we're just going to put that down from 50 to 30% the softness we're going to put from 10 up to 60 65% next for the reach we're going to go full and put it from 50 up to 100% the exposure we're going to make a little bit brighter so put it from -1 to0 .3 and because we want to keep the crime rate of it low we're going to put it from brown to White just get to the center of the circle that should work perfectly fine and as you can see we now have this beautiful flare effect on our clip and if so far you have been enjoying the video a sub to the channel would be flare basting now one last time we're going to click onto the tools panel scroll all the way down and add the two strip process effect now this we're just going to leave at standard settings and once we're done with that we can press onto this little check mark again and it should now be applied to our clip and once we're back in our preview we're going to go ahead to our looks effect that we just edited and set the strength from 100% down to 25% this setting is pretty self-explanatory it's just going to put the strength of this effect down and we also shouldn't forget to do this for the other one we added so scroll all the way up and put the strength of this one from 100 down to 70% this will just overall make it look a bit better and once all these apps are done you're good to go you can now render your edit and if you don't want to get this exact coloring you can see on screen make sure to check out the first link in the description
