How to make the B sound in ventriloquism

hi buddies it's maddie monday i'm marty and i'm here to give you tips and tricks on how to improve your puppetry i've had a lot of requests for how to do the letter b in ventriloquism so that's what we're going to tackle today how's that sound [Music] all right let's just jump right into it so there's two schools of thought on the letter b in ventriloquism the first is to substitute it with the letter g so most ventriloquists are dead most ventriloquists can't afford to feed their kids no what i was going to say is most ventriloquists use the letter g as a replacement for the letter b so you'll even hear the expression of god of gear and that's in reference to ventriloquist speak for bottle of beer which is notoriously difficult to say um and so you can try that that's more in the back of your throat bottles nina conti actually uses the letter g method and she's brilliant so if that works for you fantastic she's bloody brilliant i can't do it her way she's glory brilliant it does not work for me clearly i don't personally use that one i feel like i move my throat a little too much when i use that so i replace it with a d which is your other option you can go with g you can go with d and it just kind of depends on which one works for you so try those both out let me know if the g works for you um and let me show you how i do mine with the letter d now at first when i first started you could tell that it was a d so it was like dawdle a dawdle of deer dawdle of deer and then eventually you kind of soften it up a little bit so what i'm actually doing so if you imagine the inside of your mouth and these are your teeth your tongue is just kind of pressing up against right behind your teeth all right so practice that and [Music] just kind of sealing that off and creating that kind of sound so try that a few times it's going to start off because when you first say it especially because if you speak english only your letter d is you're using the tip of your tongue to touch the roof of your mouth right behind your teeth right so start studying the way that your mouth moves when you say those so try that if you say the letter d you'll notice that the tip of your tongue is right behind your teeth inside of your mouth what i want you to do is to round out your tongue a little bit more when it goes in there so it's not the tip of your tongue that's touching but it's more rounded out and your your tip of your tongue is actually kind of pressed into your teeth a little bit all right now as you're saying it i want you to think letter b i want you to think and hear yourself saying dal instead of doll right you can kind of tell the difference basketball basketball basketball you can a little bit hear the d still but once you have a puppet on your hand it becomes a little more believable basketball so be patient with yourself practice it a lot um at first it will sound like a g or like a d depending on which way you choose to go about it um but once you have a puppet on your hand people are gonna be looking at that and not really at you so so that about covers it so if you have any other questions feel free to leave them in the comments below you may also like this video and let me know that you found it useful and that way i can continue to make some more i also have a patreon page that is uh patreon.com forward slash motti puppets i have a goal of making 10 videos at least this year so i will be putting out more videos soon um so there you go thank you all so much what what is this who are you where is nina she's bloody brilliant you're not thanks monkey
