and today i'm actually gonna share a real actual tutorial where i'm actually explaining and not just doing something without really saying what i'm doing i make a lot of silicone molds so i'm going to share step by step how to make silicone molds and also at the same time how to make dnd dies so i get this die set i can't show really because it's gonna roll off my head i got these well okay stomach i got a full set here and i'm gonna show you how to make a silicon mold with these things so you can make your own dies so let's go all right first of all when you make a mold you need the item you want to make a mold of in this case the dice i have this die set here you need a container to make the mold in i have this silicon mold that i'm going to make a mold and mold section then i got some vaseline and of course the silicon first of all i'm gonna use the vaseline and just smear it all around the mold this is to prevent the silicone from sticking to each other with how sometimes the silicone gets stuck in the mold and then you can't really get it off and that sucks so yeah put vaseline on there and then i'm just putting the dice in there in a way that they're nicely spread out once you've placed the dice in the container you want to mix up some silicon so the silicone i have is a one-to-one ratio so one part a and one part b i can't really recommend a certain type of silicon because i'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to silicon but basically with this one and with most other silicons you just want to mix equal parts of both parts together of a great sentence and then you stir it for about a minute and you want to make sure to stir it slowly so you won't get that many bubbles in there now silicone usually sets pretty quickly so you shouldn't wait too long and after it's mixed i'm just gonna pour it into my mold or my container making sure everything's covered and now i've heard that if you pour from up high it will remove some of the bubbles or you won't get that many bubbles personally the silicon that i'm using doesn't really have that many bubbles so it's pretty good and then what i do in the end is just tapping the container which makes my camera shake looks funny to make some of the bubbles rise to the top that helps a little bit a couple hours later i'm de-molding it this is usually ready after half an hour but i'm just you know waiting a little bit longer to make sure it's really set and here you can see what that looks like so what you can also see is that some silicone got on top of the dyes so usually when you have your dice or whatever you're putting in the silicon you want to make sure it's really stuck to the bottom of your container so there won't be any silicone on top and you won't have to cut it away like i did but i'm lazy so yeah i'm just cutting it away with with some scissors and then i'm getting this blade just cutting out little chunks of silicon this is so when we make the lid of the mold we can kind of stick them together better because it's sometimes hard when you have these two-part molds to really line them up make sure they're all in the right place but when you do it like this you can basically create these negative indentations and then you can stick them together like kind of lock almost then i'm getting vaseline again because now that we're doing the top part we want to make sure that the lid for the mold doesn't stick to this bottom half of the mold just make sure not to get vaseline on your dice because then you're gonna have these like little vaseline marks in your dice and you don't want that so i'm just putting it back in my container and then using some q-tips just to make sure there's really no vaseline left on the dies and it's all clean so even like little pieces of dust can leave indentations in the silicone you don't want that so when it's all in there and all covered with vaseline all nice i'm gonna go in with a new batch of silicone that i mixed up again one to one ratio and in the beginning here i'm just kind of very slowly spreading some of the silicon on top of the dies just to make sure that they're really covered and there are no holes no air bubbles i i don't know if this really helps i just do it because it feels right i guess and then i'm just topping it off with the rest of the silicon and again banging it on my desk which again makes my camera shake which looks really violent and letting it cure then again a few hours later it's ready to unmold and i'm just getting it out there beautiful and we have this beautiful chunk of silicon now because i put vaseline everywhere it's pretty easy to tear these two pieces apart it was kind of sticking together at some spots because that's where i missed it and didn't put any vaseline on there but other than that these two halves really separated easily so then next up you can take out your dice and here are the molds or the mold pieces looking nice and shiny now to clean up the molds you don't have to do it i just like to do it so you know my molds are clean i'm just cutting off these little pieces of excess silicon so they won't be in the way and then you get your two halves that lock together perfectly like this so they're all nicely lined up actually didn't line them up correctly in that little shot right there so but you didn't see that and then next up i'm going to show you what the dies look like that you make with this so i'm mixing up some resin real quick and i'm going for a color scheme that's kind of similar to the dies that i used for the mold so this dark blue kind of shimmery mica powder putting in way too much as usual and look at that it's so pretty and shiny it looks really nice and then using this like purple and a little bit of pink to make this other color basically a little bit galaxy like i just like the color scheme of the dice that i already had so i'm kind of replicating it and i got these gold flakes that i'm just gonna throw in the blue color and i'm gonna put in way too much because i have no self-control so i get this nice sparkly beautiful shiny metallic colors beautiful and it's time to put them into the molds i do this very slowly and carefully making sure not to get too many bubbles in there i actually let the resin sit for a little bit so the bubbles can rise to the surface because yeah in molds like that bubbles get trapped very easily so you have to be really careful with your resin and i'm starting off just with the blue color putting some in there and then changing up to this pink color and just topping it off randomly making sure that you know there's a little bit of color everywhere and there's gonna be a nice pattern in the end so i'm making sure to fill this mold very high up is that right grandma probably not so i'm basically almost over filling it to really make sure that there won't be any bubbles in the end resin can shrink a bit when it cures so it's good to kind of top it off and really make sure to overfill it i also like to just very slowly and carefully paint some resin on the lid part because the lip part especially is where there are often bubbles so it's a good idea to kind of you know put a layer on resin on there so just for these parts there won't be any bubbles at all and then it's time to flip it over and put it on there and have them do it kind of quickly so the resin won't run off and you don't want to press it you don't want to press down on it and squeeze all the resin out because then you might not have enough resin in the end and yeah there you can see the excess and it kind of got stuck on my cutting board whoops but then you can take the mold apart look at that it looks pretty good there are some small bubbles here and there but that's it's hard to avoid when you don't have a pressure chamber peeling off these excess pieces of resin is really fun love that it's just nice and then you can unmold your dice look at that looks pretty good i love the little gold flakes in there so pretty so pretty so galaxy-like then i'm unmolding all of them beautiful look at them so pretty and of course where the two parts of the mold meat you're gonna have some excess resin there so just take a file or some sandpaper and just sand it off the next step to do the numbers you just get a pen or even some acrylic color whatever you have lying around and you just paint it and you don't have to be accurate with this you can just like really get in there with the color as you can see it's all like overflowing and stuff but that's not a problem because later on we're just going to wipe it off and it's going to look perfect so yeah just just really get in there with the color and just paint all over it so yeah here i have a baby wipe and you can just use that or like some cloth with like rubbing alcohol or something like that and just kind of wipe it off since the numbers are kind of engraved in there so there are these kinds of indentations you're basically just rubbing away the color on the surface and the color in these indented numbers is gonna stay behind and that's how you get nice perfect numbers and here the finished dies made with the homemade mold again you can see some bubbles here and there and i didn't sand it off properly so but this is what they look like and you can reuse this mold until it's breaking down to make as many dice as you want fun times okay yay we're done here's the finished mold look at that look at that it turned out pretty good i like it very satisfied these two part molds are always a bit harder because well there are two parts that you have to get right excuse me these things really help it's stop honking so yeah here's finished dice ooh ooh yeah sexy [Music] [Laughter] it turned out really nice and i'm gonna make a lot more this was fun now you can make your own models on your own dice and this is cool congrats you learned something maybe and i'm gonna go drink some tea now and play animal crossing okay bye
