hello blender world today I will be going to show you how to make this decent puzzle animation the tutorial is completely made for beginners and every step is going to be mentioned without any further delay let us get started first you need to go to the puzzle generator website the link is in the description play with these parameters to change your model the way you want once you are satisfied download the SVG file now let's move to blender press a to select all and then X to delete everything now go to file and import your SVG file go to front view press a to select all then press s+ 10 to scale your object 10 times now if you do notice we have three separated objects we need to combine them in one single object to do that select one and press shift and select the others then press ctrl+ J to join them as it can be seen the origin of our object is at the corner this yellow dot we need to change it to the center so select the object and set the origin to center of mass now you can press shift plus s and choose selection to cursor that's how you overlap the origin of the object to the cursor location now we need to fill these little pieces the best way to do that is to add a plane and cut it based on the shape of these pieces so press shift a and choose plane press s to scale it up you can press SX to to scale it only on xais in order to do the cut operation we need to convert our cutter which is a curve by default to a mesh but before that you may want to lower the resolution of the curve to eight for instance just to avoid lot of geometry now select your curve go to object convert to mesh now the plane is ready to be cut so select the plane and press tab to go to edit mode then press shift and go to the outliner and select your your cutter now go to mesh and select knife project you may wait some time to generate the cut now let us disable our cutter we don't need it anymore you may want to change to the wireframe mode to see the pieces that have been knife projected on the plane let us now separate the pieces of Puzzle first of all go to edit mode and select the vertices at the corners and press X to delete them now press a to select all then press two times I to inset the interfaces they move the cursor slightly to create a tiny Gap then press control plus I to invert selection then press X and delete vertices the work is almost done we need just to separate the object into individuals parts so we can control them the way we want to do that you should simply select the object and then go to edit mode press a to select all then press p and choose separate by loose Parts one more thing to do is to set the origin of each piece to its Center of mass like we did before press a to select all and then go to object and set origin to center of mass now we are done with modeling the puzzle we need just to apply the material and make a beautiful animation applying materials means using Shader editor so go ahead drag this window and make a space for the Shader editor select one piece and go create new material now go to your folder and drag the texture to this space plug the texture to the base color you cannot see anything because you need to enable the shading viewport as you can see we need to apply the same texture on all the pieces so select the object that has the material and press a to select all and go to object and choose link materials now you can play with the metallic and roughness properties to make your puzzle looks right as you wish [Music] before we start animating our puzzle we need to give it some thickness so press a to select all and go to edit mode press e and extrude it like this you can also add some bevel to your pieces to make them look more realistic like before any bevel you should apply the scale at first so select all and press CR a and choose scale now for the bevel select one piece then go to modifier Tab and apply the bevel for segments will be enough you can also rightclick and shade Auto smooth you can fix the shading by checking Harden normals in the bevel modifier while selecting the previous piece press a to select all like we did before go to object and copy modifiers now your puzzle is ready for animation for the animation we need to go back to the timeline we tend to do a simple beautiful animation press a to select select all and go to the frame 50 put your cursor above the timeline and press I to add a key frame choose location and rotation now go back to the frame one while selecting all the pieces press g z and move your selection up like this now we need to randomize the rotation of these pieces as it is shown in the final result to do that first make sure that the pivot point is on the individual Origins then while selecting all go to object transform and choose random imize play with the values of rotations around the three axis like this once you are happy press I and insert a key frame now press space to play the animation as you did notice the animation seems boring because all the pieces fall at the same time we need to offset the animation you can do it manually by selecting each piece and offset the key frames like that I don't recommend doing that it is not professional instead you can use a free add-in called commotion that gets a quick solution for you go to this website the link is in description and download the add-in now go to edit preferences then addin click on install addin and choose your file that you have downloaded it and click install Now search for commotion and check it press n to reveal the add-ins box and go to commotion make sure you are on frame one press a to select all then go to commotion and click offset animation now now it looks more interesting as you can see the puzzle is being built little by little around the cursor because by default the offset is sorted by the cursor you can change it to random for instance remember you should undo the previous animation by pressing control Z before applying the new one let us see here we go another beautiful animation you can change the parameters here and look for what suits you several animations you can make by this powerful admin now let's move to render our scene first thing you need to do to render your object is to add some light I'm going to use hdri image if you don't have one just go to heaven website and download for free the one you prefer the link is in the description now enable the preview render go to world and import the hdri image as follows here we need only the light emitted by by the image not the background so to fix that go to film and check transparent now we should add and animate our camera press shift a and add camera take a look at the length of the puzzle animation it is around 200 frames so set the end to 200 now go to the end of Animation select the camera and face your puzzle like that and press control alt numpad zero to set the camera to this view you can move your camera using the G key to adjust it it once you are happy with the shot press I and add a key frame go back to the beginning of animation and take another shot and add a key frame you can also add a plane and choose the material you like now set your render settings before rendering the animation for this scene you may want to choose cycle as a render engine if you have a good GPU you can use it as well 50 samples is enough check Den noise now go save your output file somewhere I recommend to choose PNG sequences and you are good to go you just need to click render animation and wait congratulations you have just made your first puzzle animation see you in the next tutorial
