How to make Liquid Frit

hi everybody Kevin Cobalt glass and custom Works uh today I was going to show you really quickly how I make uh my own uh basically a liquid frit um I buy these little bottles here off of uh Amazon or whatever you can get them anywhere they have uh they come in like three pieces they have the cap they have a little um nozzle and then they have the bottle so this just pushes in nice and tight and then you can just pop that out so what I've done is I've taken some I use uh 100% aloe gel and I have a little bottle full of water um and I'm going to mix up some orange I need some orange opal um as well as a brush just to kind of stir things and a small funnel and a toothpick um pardon me whenever you're working with powders and stuff make sure you have a good mask like an n95 mask um some safety glasses too are very helpful um you don't want to be breathing in the powders and stuff like that because they get in there your lungs and then uh then you got troubles uh so anyways um what we'll do is um basically I don't know if there's really a set ratio I kind of use basically 50 50 mix of I use 50 yo 50 frit and then I'll just put a little bit of water in there to uh to help kind of thin it out um and what I do with it is I do freeze and fuse and a bunch of other little items um so anyways inside these molds for freeze and fuse there's little dots and sometimes I will use a small dot sifter and just fill it with powder you can see the hole there and then you just vibrate the the spring and the powder will flow out sometime s it's a little bit too aggressive and it it gets all over the place so what I do is I will use the um the glass frit mix here that I make up I'll just actually show you kind of what I do here is just you can kind of control the dots I'm just kind of just doing it on here I'm going to do a video here shortly on uh how I actually uh we'll apply this to uh to doing some free and fuse items so what we'll do is I have a tiny little funnel that comes with these bottles I'll put the funnel in there and um we'll just uh take our little teaspoon here and we'll put about a teaspoon heavy oh that's a/4 teaspoon so then just kind of tap that quarter and a half teaspoon maybe a little more cuz we use quite a bit so then this will equate to about 3/4 of a teaspoon of the powder I have a oops sorry I have a bit of a fan going so the powder will blow away on me here so like you can hear me talk otherwise it's very muffled and uh then we'll just take the aloe it has a smaller nozzle on the top of the bottle there so what I'll do not sure you'll be able to see this but I will just kind of can be a bit of a challenge but I'll just squirt it into the into the bottle here there we go let going to shake that down a little bit not sure if you can see it filling up the bottle a little bit and everybody has different you know different ratios whatever I find the black powder for some reason is a tricky one it doesn't seem to want to uh to flow very well so it ends up almost like the aloe gel is too thick so I add a little bit of water to kind of thin it out make a mess here but that's where you can mess around with the consistency and make it the uh the consistency you want and then uh I just got ahead of myself there what we'll do is we'll put the um I got a paint brush just something small that'll fit in the end here then we'll just mix this up you'll probably notice you may need a little bit more aloe in there I'm just going to squeeze a little another shot in there this works really well I find everybody will have different results me work good for you me not notot um but I like this for freeze and fuse or if you're doing little uh elements on a uh fuse glass project works really well um and I like oh je bumped that camera sorry um and I like to use the Opals because the Opals really stand out so I'm just going to put a couple little squirt of water in there you don't need too much and then uh as they as they uh stand up over time they'll settle out so every time I use it I just shake them up really good um and you can get the bottles with a colored cap so you can actually change the Caps just don't want to hit the camera so that should be fairly well Incorporated now come on there we go just get a just use the back of this here then you can kind of see but then uh it just flows out nice and you want to kind of keep it down a bit cuz as you saw that kind of spit it out there so just as you're working let give it a couple little shakes here and there and then you want to do dots you know if you want to make a smiley face or something get creative um so anyways that is how I make my I guess you could call it liquid frit different colors and like I said I use Opals dark blue opals red opal orange opal sunflower yellow and black powder um you go can I bought a 50 pack of the uh bottles on Amazon and uh just make whatever colors you want um I'm going to get this all cleaned up I'm going to set up for another
