you the type of guy who cuts your plywood with a handsaw it's so tired halfway through the cut they can't make it or maybe you have a small shop and you struggle to cut your plywood with your scroll saw knocking over things or perhaps maybe you out in the backyard and use a tape measure to get all tangled up in it oh my well maybe you have a string line a nice little sob but somehow it just never comes out right oh man what a disappointment or maybe you're the type of guy who fumbles around with some clamps with a straightedge it still to make your cut your cut still comes out a little wonky or on the opposite end of the spectrum maybe you're just crazy enough to cut your plywood with a blade oh my god maybe you're the kind of guy who tries to get a straight line from a circle sometimes things just don't work out do you dream of having an expensive track saw your shop some days you can tear down plywood or even having a really expensive panel saw or maybe perhaps someday you'll be rich enough to have a C&C cut your plywood while you sit in your shop eating tiny sandwiches oh my well don't go bananas over this no need to pop out the chainsaw because today I have a solution for you today I'm going to show you how to make an easy DIY circular saw guide that uses the micro jig dovetail clamps to clamp down the project piece stay tuned and I'll show you how I just workshop is sponsored by [Music] so I'm about to start a big project using all this plywood and I don't really have any way to break down the sheets so I got some scrap MDF laying around big quarter inch pieces a big three quarter inch piece well today we're gonna make a circular saw guy this circular saw guide will be pretty easy to make so this is the material we're gonna be using for this project to get started we're gonna be measuring the base of the skill saw it's four and a half behind the blade so we're gonna measure in six that way we have a nice clean edge when we do our initial cut so I'll mark this board and we're gonna glue it down with lots of glue that's enough a clamp both sides lock it into position on my mark and then I'll weigh it down with some stuff that'll work the next day I remove the weights move the clamps and the first thing we're gonna do is run it run a cut to make our zero clearance holding it firmly against the fence and make one smooth continuous cut all the way down our guide creating a zero clearance [Music] and now this saw is dedicated to this Jake now to move on we need to cut away the waste that we have of this big piece so this be too hard to manage so I'm gonna cut this much off of it so do that I'm gonna use my table sauce with my fence set to 8 inches I'll be able to rip this big piece off and my guide will be set free and almost ready to use now this circular saw guide is ready to use almost we had to figure out one last thing we don't want this thing moving around the piece when we go to cut it that'll totally mess up the cut so what a wood clamp would work but it would totally be in the way so instead of that so we're gonna use these micro jig dovetail clamps it requires a dovetail slot all the way down my piece and that will be able to for the dovetail clamps to go into there to clamp it down to make that dovetail slot he used my router edge guy that I made in my last video I have plans available for this on my website check it out link in the description to get started I'm gonna mark where the bit will go we're gonna use a quarter-inch straight bit that way we can remove some of the waste for the dovetail bit more on that in a minute first I'll clamp this thing down lock it into position mark where I want it put my quarter-inch straight cut bit in and we'll do a couple of passes with a quarter-inch bit all the way down the piece that looks good ready to go now to make this dovetail slot we're gonna be using this dovetail bit a fourteen degree half-inch one now I have my dovetail bit sticking out of the router guy edge guy at half an inch my edge guide is locked into position and I will do a full cut all the way down the piece using my edge guide this thing works great plans are available on the website links in the description check it out now that I got the dovetail finished up I'll clean up the little bit of mess I got here and this thing is ready for action almost you can see the dovetail clamps slide right in I'm gonna cut off the remaining piece here with my little handsaw and this thing is ready to test out easiest project in the world looks pretty good to me and looks straight so I got both of my clamps here I slide one in on one side I slide the other one in and just flip it over on the project quickly clamp it down and this thing won't even move so let's do a test cut I'm gonna mark this at 36 inches on both sides of this board and then I'm gonna set up my circular saw guide and clamp it in position it's pretty easy clamp slide right in tighten right down and ready to make a cut so with my circular saw ready to go we're gonna go ahead and make it cut this is real-time no fast-forward I'm actually holding the camera as I'm cutting it and there we go piece released the saw stopped [Music] hmm let's go ahead and check this with a square and see how it looks that is on the money time for a Patrick quick tip well be sure that when you're using your circular saw on a circular saw guide that the blade is square with the table and that your nut on the front is locked down really tight to chest and make sure your blade is square use a square put your square right on the table and check it with a blade yep that one's square this has been a quick tip from Patrick Lotus projects all done Randy use the clamps will stay in position when you put your plywood underneath of it or slam this thing against the wall or whatever so get out your shop and make one of these I also have plans for the router edge guide available on my website check it out I'll leave a link in the description
