i've tried to film this video four times i'm not even joking i've tried to film this four times hopefully it goes the way i want it to work this time hi everyone it's leah welcome to this video i hope you guys are all doing well i hope you guys are all healthy since i last spoke to you in my last tutorial the uk has actually gone into lockdown i have not left my house in the last five days probably and i will not be leaving my house because i'm not trying to risk anything so yeah i hope you guys are all doing fine because i know staying at home can be boring sometimes i am definitely not doing very well i'm joking i'm healthy i'm fine but obviously being forced to stay home it takes a toll on you when you're forced to stay home rather than it being a choice which is fantastic but yeah okay with that being said i told you guys that i would make an in-depth video about how to learn k-pop dances from home now this is probably the most fitting time to post this video because everyone is practically at home so this video is about how i learn k-pop dances this is all my tips this has all worked for me for the past four to five years and i hope that they help you as well first step to learning dances at home is that you need to find a mirrored version of the dance that you would like to learn dance practice videos are the best fan cams it would be your second option as long as it's still as well and you can see clearly idle show performances are another one and also you have special performance videos too so all you would do is just go onto youtube and type in the artist the song name and then dance mirrored dance practice mirrored etc someone on youtube already probably has uploaded a mirrored version of what you need the channel that i tend to go to a lot i will put right here they're very good channel i just rely on them a lot when it comes to my mirrored videos so yeah the second step is to before you even get up to dance is to watch the dance practice the mirror dance practice on repeat at least 10 times the night before you decide to learn you just need to space out some time where you're just sitting down you could literally be in bed and you watch the dance practice on repeat as many times as possible now the reason why you need to do this and then why i recommend doing it the night before you will start to memorize the moves very very briefly and have an idea of the moves so it makes it a lot easier when you go up and get ready to dance and actually start learning honestly if you take anything away from this video this is probably the most important step and i have literal proof that this is the most important step for example when i learned mamamoo's hip i did not really do this step i didn't really watch the dance video that much and when i got to learn it it was so difficult and it was so frustrating even when i was in the studio i was making so many mistakes but on the other hand when i learned a red velvet psycho i did this step i watched it so many times the night before i went to sleep on it when you go to sleep your brain remembers information better wake up the next day it was so easy to learn trust me this is the most important step and please don't miss this out especially if you get frustrated and if you forget moves very easily i'd say once you've watched the dance practice about two to five times already you need to start figuring out which member you're going to follow for the dance i always tend to follow the main or the lead dancers it depends what your preference is some people like to do a center part dance if they're dancing on their own what i mean by this is that some people have the preference to follow whoever is singing and then other people like me prefer to follow the best dancer of the group and whoever's doing the most choreography at the time the third step is to find a space in your home i understand that everyone's home situation is different and people might not have a lot of space i am definitely one of those people that do not have a lot of space i literally learn dances in my bedroom also to get this dance practice on a big screen please do not learn on your mobile phone even if your phone is kind of big please don't learn on your phone there's very very small details in dances sometimes that you could miss on your phone compared to if you learn on a laptop or a computer or even a tv by small details i mean really small things like you might think by looking at a phone that someone is using one finger but then if you look on a computer screen you notice that they're using two fingers instead for a certain move so just really small details like that you can miss on a phone so please use a big screen if you can step number four is really important obviously and that is to stretch if you guys want me to do a stretching routine i will be more than happy to do that you guys can follow along with my stretching routine right before you learn a dance step number five is to break the dance up into sections now i teach the way i learn just break it up into verses and you work through each verse that way so i do this thing where i pick three speeds and i'll have a learning speed a practice speed and then a comfort speed so my learning speed is the speed obviously that i use to learn off of and that is normally 60 speed so it's 60 slow then i have a practice speed which is obviously the speed that i practice at and this is normally 70 speed so a little bit higher and then i have a comfort speed and my comfort speed is normally 80 if i can do this section fluently at 80 speed at my comfort speed then i'm more than happy to move on to the next part [Music] what i always try and do and i recommend to you guys as well is do not try and perfect this dance at 100 speed on the first day of learning because you will get frustrated don't focus on perfection just basically focus on trying to get the moves to a good standard for now because you can always practice tomorrow i don't focus on trying to perfect each section at 100 speed first before i move on because that is gonna just tire you out for one and frustrate you too so you know it's up to you if you are a fast learner and you're more than happy to get it down at 100 speed before you move on then sure do that but for people who get tired easily and also don't want to get frustrated i would recommend picking a speed that is just slightly under 100 that you're satisfied with before you move on to the next section if that makes sense okay now the learning process so what i do is i watch the section that i'm about to learn about three times then i get up and i start to learn the moves so i learn each move i learn about a second to two seconds of the dance each time so we're going to start the demonstration process now this is exactly the kind of thing that i would wear at home while i'm dancing so we're going to be realistic here most of us probably dance in pajamas or like t-shirt and leggings the t-shirt and shorts so this is typically the type of thing that i'll be dancing in so i am starting with the introduction and i watch the first two moves at my learning speed which is 60 so i pause it there the first two moves are quite easy so i'm able to do it with the music at 60 so i just do it along with the video once i've got that down i watch the next move so i notice that you stomp out on the side then i keep watching the following hand movements and i notice that they're patting up their chest to the beat of the music [Music] then lastly to end i watch the next two moves and then i copy it myself so i've learned the first three sets of eight so i practice those moves and put them all together and as you can see i'm doing it without any music i'm just kind of singing the song in my head and putting moves to the instruments so here is a tip for moves that you struggle with try learning the arms and the legs separately from each other so here i'm watching the arm movements and then i'm going to attempt them separately from the legs so as you can see i'm stationary in my legs but i'm just copying what i saw with the arms [Music] so now i have finished learning all of the moves in this section and once you've finished doing this practice from the beginning without any music and go at your own pace after going at your own pace and if you've done the moves quite well without any music now attempt this section at your practice speed and mine was 70 so try practicing and see how well you do and how well you've memorized the move so far if you've got it right at your practice speed if that was successful then attempt this at your comfort speed now and mine was 80 so if you master this at your comfort speed and you're satisfied then you're ready to move on to the next section [Music] one thing that really helps me is that i connect each move either with a lyric or a sound or some sort of beat in the song that is the easiest way to connect moves and memorize moves when you are doing a dance so let's just say i want to start learning the chorus of blackpink's kill this love chorus starts on let's kill this love boom boom boom there's already a couple of words and also sound effects instruments that go with the moves on let's kill this love there is a move for each syllable the first let's would be an elbow backwards so you see them do the first move so you look at the first move and you elbow backwards like this let's and then kill would be the right then this would be this move and then love would be when you pull it up so you match each move with syllables so now i am learning the chorus part with the exact same steps and methods from before so here for the next move i am applying the technique again to learn the arms and the legs separately so if a move is too difficult for me i will do the arms first then i will practice the leg part and then finally i put the two together so now i'm doing the same thing as before i watch the first one to two moves and copy it and then i attempt to do it without any music as well and then just add the moves together there's a lot of pausing and playing during this process and that's just the way i learn so once i have learned all the moves on the first day the second day is all about cleaning up my moves and trying to perfect it at 100 speed and also working on different techniques such as power and facial expressions and making sure i'm not stiff so you need to look out for the way that moves are executed so i've just lifted up my shirt a bit so you can kind of see my hair movements a bit more so on jenny's move when they go rampa okay so you can see the move is like very smooth and you're kind of like rolling your body down like this but sometimes when you're learning at first you could think the move and you could easily get it confused to look like this this this now can you see it's not a bouncing motion it's a rolling motion like this okay so those are really small things that i mean on the second day that i would polish up to make sure i'm executing the move properly so i'm going to show you the difference between the two [Music] another thing i would look out for on the second date is head movement and facial expressions so is your head supposed to be stationary or is your head supposed to move and flow with the moon so i'll show you the difference between these two moves as well [Music] hmm [Music] if i am doing girl group dances it's especially important to know when to add more power and also loosening your hips when it's necessary it's really important in some girl group dances to make sure that your hips are loose and they're moving freely and you're not afraid to basically move your hips and your butt area [Music] it's also important to know how much power to add and when to add power for certain moves so that you look more confident when you're dancing [Music] okay so thank you guys for watching this video i hope that these tips helped you this is honestly the best way that i can describe how i learn dances like i said before this was my fourth attempt at trying to film this video because i was really struggling to like explain the way i do it if that makes sense but yeah i hope this was helpful and if there are any more videos that you want me to do during this time of quarantine and being at home uh like sit down talk videos then i will be more than happy to do that so please comment down below if you want me to make any more videos of me giving advice or just any other kind of videos that you want me to do at home again stay healthy and safe stay occupied and productive at home hopefully you guys are learning some new dances and having fun at home and making the most of this time where we can rest indoors but yeah i will speak to you guys soon and see you in a new video
