chances are that if you've got a shimano electronic groups it either came pre-installed on the bike we've got a professional mechanic do it for you but if you fancy a go at doing it yourself you've come to the right place because i'm about to show you how to install one of the new shimano 11 speed st 9070 group sets to install the actual electronic parts of the group set all you're going to need is a two and a five millimeter allen key plus one of these specialist shimano tools a tlew02 you're also going to need the tools to remove and replace your crank set and bottom brackets and to finish the job off a chain tool di2 kits have everything you need to fit the wiring junction boxes and battery if you're not 100 sure about compatibility issues or fit in the group set we would recommend you to employ a specialist mechanic to do this job to begin with fit the sti di2 levers to the handlebars pull them up into roughly the right place before tightening with your five millimeter allen key if you're replacing some previous sti levers you can use the mark from them as a guide however bear in mind that different levers have different ergonomics so you might want to ride it out on the road before you put your bar tape on attach the rear mech to the frame in exactly the same way that you would do a mechanical one using a five millimeter allen key next we need to start fitting the cables begin at the sti levers use a cable long enough to leave some slack when the other end reaches the first junction box attach a cable to the top of the three holes on each side using the shimano tool strap the junction box mount onto the underside of the stem using the rubber band provided cut off any excess and then slide the actual junction box onto the mount if you have bars of internal cable routing thread the cables through and then pop the ends of them into either side of the box using the shimano tool next take a longer cable and put one end into the middle hole of the junction box our frame has internal cable routing so thread the other end of the cable through the frame until the end pops out the side of the bottom bracket shell next feed one of the shorter cables through the frame hole by the front mech until it also comes out the side of the bottom bracket take another one of the longer cables and feed one end through the hole by the rear mech and poke it through until it comes out the same place as the others finally our battery is mounted inside the seat post so we need to thread one last cable down through the seat tube leaving us with four cables coming out of the bottom bracket shell routing cables internally is easier said than done but we have got a new video coming soon with some extra hints and tips next take the other smaller junction box and press the cable ends in using your tool it doesn't matter which cable goes in which hole but for neatness put the forward facing cables in the front and the others in the back feel inside your frame to see which internal hole is the biggest and push the junction box and all the wires up into it it's time to replace your bottom bracket and cranks it now you can put your front mech on ours is abandoned and like a mechanical mech the bottom of the outer cage should be around two millimeters above the chainrings once the mech is tightened into place use your five millimeter allen key to loosen the screw on the drive side of the mech and then use your two millimeter allen key to set the frame stop screw next you need to adjust the high and the low stops on the front and rear mix the method is exactly the same as mechanical mechs you can see how to do it by checking out our video here once you've replaced your chain it's now time to make the fine adjustments of the gears press the button on the front junction box until a solid red light comes on this is the adjustment mode next referring to the adjustment instructions and diagrams for guidance press the up and down shifters to fine tune the chain position and create a situation where the chain runs as smoothly as possible on the cassette sprocket then press the button on the junction box again so the red light goes off this is regular shifting mode repeat this until every gear shift is perfect then do the same on the other shifter to adjust the front derailleur so that the chain shifts and runs smoothly on both chainrings finally you need to replace the brake cables and re-wrap the bar tape we'll be making separate instructional videos for both of these so watch this space
