do it yourself it's a snap you I did it oh great he's home early black to black red to red yellow to yellow and green to green I'm home honey where's dinner where are you what's going on remember that new phone we were talking about having installed yeah well here it is Oh how'd you give an installer out so fast well actually I went to the store I picked it out what's this now they're using our tools no I am what I did it myself come on thing was wired right into the wall exactly you didn't know your wife was so talented did you well how'd you know how to do it if I knew you were that good I would add you fix the patio lights okay okay the truth is with eighties do-it-yourself wiring and accessories it was a snap it took me less than five minutes why don't you just have the phone company put it when we can do it ourselves besides who wants to wait around all day for someone to come out not me and something else honey what doing it myself and not paying for an installer saved us enough money to enjoy a dinner out tonight well I guess you don't have to be an electrical engineer to install a modular outlet patio lights maybe but not outlets tomorrow I tackle the automatic dialer oh no wait a minute don't worry I can handle it at first I had my doubts but then I talked to the salesperson at the store and they told me how easy it excuse me are all these AT&T products they sure are do you need some help I think so you see I thought I'd buy a new trim line and maybe even an automatic dialer but who can I get to install them well you can install them yourself they're modular would you like to see how easy it is sure why not what do you mean modular let me show you a tease telephone cords are designed with tiny plastic plugs that can easily snap into telephones and jacks that's what makes the modular now you can plug in any of your telephones anywhere without complicated wiring or an expensive visit by an installer do you have modular jacks in your home now I'm not sure does it have a little opening like this on the side for the court plug mine is square but the wire goes right into the box I don't remember any plug oh wait a minute some of my phones do have plugs but they look sort of like you probably have the older style it would be so easy for you to convert your home to the modular system using these AT&T do-it-yourself wiring and accessory products I don't know you can save yourself a lot of time and money and it really isn't difficult okay what do I do well for the phone that's wired directly into the wall all you have to do is unscrew the front cover underneath you'll find four screws each with a different colored wire around it just snip the wire that leads to your phone then take these four caps and snap them onto the top of the screws just remember to match the colors black to black red to red yellow to yellow green to green that's very important place the new cover in position and tighten the screw that's it I think I can handle that but what if I have questions every atnt product comes with complete instructions plus there's a 24-hour seven-day-a-week toll-free number listed on the package you can call them anytime with questions about installation or warranties now how about installing that automatic dialer how complicated is this going to be easier than you ever imagined what kind of a phone are you gonna connect it to probably the wall phone in the kitchen is that gonna be a problem not at all all you'll need is a dual outlet adapter you see since you're connecting two devices to one Jack you'll need to have two outlets simply lift the phone up and off the wall you'll see a metal plate attached to the wall that's the phone mount take the adapter position it over the plate and snap it right on then all you have to do is slip the phone back on and plug in the automatic dialer is it really that simple it sure is and don't forget you can always call that toll-free 800 number if you have any questions now is there anything else you need extension cords or additional jack inverters no thanks let me try all this first by the way you know there's a short video tape over here you may want to take a look at just to refresh your memory maybe I will it certainly couldn't hurt with AT&T s new line of do-it-yourself wiring and accessory products you can offer customers ease convenience as well as cost and telephones together at one modular jack or they can connect an outside device like an answering machine or automatic dialer to the telephone many homes still have telephones that are wired right into the wall jack converting to the modular system is a breeze with any one of the three modular Jack converters most of the ATT do-it-yourself wiring accessory products fall into the modular Jack's and wiring category for instance these wired junctions allow customers to add a number of extensions throughout their homes to connect these lines you need telephone station wire which is available in 50 permanent hmm maybe I have one portable yeah portable that's it thinking of putting in an extension of yeah maybe my wife came home the other day and she not only converted a jack to modular but she even installed an automatic dialer all by herself really yeah I figured well she can do it maybe I could too we could use a few more outlets well doing it yourself sure saves you a lot of money do you know anything about all this extension business how many you're putting in well one of my workbench would be nice and maybe one in the second bedroom well you'll probably want a wall phone for the workbench and a desk phone for the second bedroom huh sounds good then you'll need a 630 be wall jack and a 725 a modular Jack are you sure it's not difficult positive complete instructions come in each package and as your wife probably told you there's a toll-free 800 number you can call for assistance at any time any day of the week now in order to put these two extensions in you'll need to run station wire from an existing jack using a wire junction do you have an unused modular outlet no I'm afraid I don't well then you'll need a 7 42 B wire junction oh okay what about this extension cord well you use that when you want to extend the cord that runs from the wall to the phone oh well that could be handy in the bedroom we could carry the phone farther and that is if it's not too complicated do you need any long handset cords for your other phone like in the workshop for the kitchen the kitchen yeah I could surprise my wife what color uh white yeah is she gonna be surprised then you'll be surprised when you see how easy it all in LS your hope so for conversion from four prongs and modular simply plug the adapter into the wall and snap your modular plug into the adapter to install additional jacks simply run your telephone station wired connecting one end to your new modular jack and the other end to a wire junction box perfect I'm so proud of us now for the hard
