so next we're going to install our posts all around the deck so we took our two our four by four posts we cut it in half so that one four by four by eight foot will actually make two posts for around the deck we temporarily attached a piece of of old wood that we had laying around to hold the 4x4 post at the correct height that we needed to be in we then took some joists and we cut the joists down to go in between the joists and we doubled them up so that there were two of them back to back that we screwed together now we used our clamp to hold the 4x4 post in position we're going to pre-drill the holes through here because when you're running these lag bolts in or these Timber lock screws you can't just run it into a piece of wood you need to actually pre-drill it first so that it actually can go through the entire length of the project itself but we're going to drill through the outside joists we're going to drill through the 4x4 and then we have a scrap piece of 4x4 smaller piece that we're going to attach on the opposite side of the post that we're going to be installing and you can see it laying right down here in front of me but we're going to pre-drill everything through once we're through we'll bring up that scrap piece of 4x4 hold it on the back there and then drill it through the rest of the way but just so you know we're going to put in actually four screws through here we're going to put two in through the one side of the joist from the outside then we're going to do two from the other side making sure that when we screw them through that they don't actually hit into each other and and not go through so you want to make sure you stagger them so that they don't they don't touch into each other when you try to run them through all the way all right so now we're going to drill through everything into that piece of uh of scrap 4x4 that we have in the back we're going to take our Timber lock screw and we're going to drive it all the way in through the fork through the the joist the outer joists the 4x4 and also that small little four by four piece that we have on the opposite side okay and once we're in all the way we'll make sure everything looks good it is we're just going to tap our block and we're good to go drill two more two more holes over here and then we'll put the 10 inch bolts through here as well and we're going to attach these at the same time [Music] okay now before we put the other lag bolts in over here we're going to take our level put it on make sure everything looks exactly right it's perfect [Music] next we're going to take our bolts and we're going to drive them all the way through foreign actually better take those two pieces of wood that we previously cut and sandwiched together and we're going to put them back in back in right up against the back of this post and that will dry these screws all the way through into them thank you [Music] nice and tight let's take off this piece of wood that we used in the back hold it in place while we were working we no longer need it because now it's screwed in [Applause] okay so we have two leg bolts in here two leg bolts in here we have this one sandwiched together next we're going to drive a couple of screws here here and then we'll do the same thing on this side over here and then it's going to be finished [Music] of course we're going to check it one more time I know it's good check it with your level to make sure everything looks okay and that's it this one is finished let me bring in a little closer I'll go over one more time with you okay so we have our two leg bolts right through here and he's at a 10 inch we also put two 10 inch right through the side right over here as well we actually put a couple of screws on the other side over here we're going to put two screws right in here but everything is all bolted together and that is what it looks like all right so that post is done let's put in that post that post and we'll call it uh we'll call it a day okay I'm just going to show you now the rest of the poster we had put in there and as you can see we took some from one joist to the other we took some scrap joist material it was at two by eight we cut it down we doubled them up and we put it up against the side of it plus we had that scrap 4x4 piece that we used in the back of it to secure it in place and we have all our posts in in this spots right now we will cut them a little shorter as we progress in the project and we're ready to put the sleeves over the top of it we'll cut them to the exact length that we need I think we needed 30 somewhat at 39 inches or something like that above the deck so we'll have to measure it later on and cut it off with a circular saw to the height that we need now here we put our first run in we cut it around the post so that we have a good fit in that we have it up against the house and it's very important that you get your first piece in there nice and straight because if the first piece is not straight it's just going to continue down the line and it's and it's not going to be lined up properly the way it is so now we have our first piece down we screw we Face screwed it in place we took our second piece now we laid it in here and we're going to come in and we're going to mark on the 4x4 where it actually is supposed to be cut from the new Trex decking and as you can see that track stacking it's hard to see anything if you put a line on that it's going to be difficult to see so what I usually do is I'll usually grab some some tape and put some some blue tape on there so that way when you mark it you'll be able to see it as clear as day and here you can see where I faced screwed it down so it doesn't move and we actually set it to the to the depth so that our finished piece can fit on there as well all right so I'm going to take some tape now we're going to tape it up and then we'll get in there with our jigsaw and we'll cut out the piece that is going to go around the post itself and as you can see with the tape on that you can see it much better all right let's cut it okay so next we have our first board put in we have our Trex Fasteners right in here to hold it in place next we brought our board in here we have to cut around this 4x4 post right here so what we do is we put this tape on here so you can see a little bit clearer what's going on and now we're going to mark it and we're going to make our cut to make the cut is fairly simple we're just going to use a a drill and we're going to drill a small hole in it just to get the the jigsaw started all right so let's mark it here first where the post is gonna start right there and right there remember you want to leave approximately an eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch clearance just for expansion and contraction all right so we're going to mark it here we're going to make our first cut and we marked it over here where we're going to make our other cut next we're going to come in here we're going to measure how far in we're going to make that cut now remember with the Fastener in here is approximately a quarter of an inch so we're going to put that quarter of an inch here and then we're going to calculate the into our measurement so now we have two and one quarter inches so we're going to cut in two inches right here pocket there let's mark it there we're just going to take our Square just so you can see where we're going to be cutting it's a lot easier with the tape on there to see where you're actually going to make making your cuts that's our run cut and that's our second cut now to make this cut you have to be a little bit careful because we need to get these Corners drilled out right here so let me show you how we're going to go about doing that just going to make sure we're drilling over something that's not going to get damaged we take our drill and we start right in the corner right there and we just drill a small hole right through it's just probably about a 3 8. just enough to fit your jigsaw in it's our jigsaw and we're going to make our cut let's see can you still see here okay the same thing on this side here foreign and now we'll come around the other side here and we're gonna I'm gonna cut it let's move it in here a little closer so you can see better okay now we have that cut out next we want to have this corner over here we want this corner to be squared off as well so we're going to make our final cut here all right okay and you can see it's a nice clean cut oh let's slide it into place and we'll make sure it fits okay let's put the other end in place as well so that looks okay let me bring in and I'll show you what I mean there's our tracks clip right here and we have a nice even all the way through all right so let's uh now that we have this cut out let's attach this down we'll run a couple of Trex boards in here and then we're going to run it throughout the whole deck and when I come up to the side over here we have to cut it I'll come back and I'll show you that foreign
