hello guys in today's video I'm gonna show you how to install an electric hot water heater before you purchase your new water heater determine the size you need for the feminine size of one to two people purchase 30 gallon tank for the family size of two to three people purchase 40 gallon tank for the family size of three to four people purchase 50 gallon tank and for the feminine size of more than 5 people purchase 80 gallon tank I'm going to be reusing an old drain pan and discharge pipe it's gonna help me to save some money unfortunately I cannot use a timer on my water heater because it is broken so now I'm gonna remove it before getting started turn off the electricity use a circuit tester to make sure the power is off when a timer is removed I can start installing a metal electrical box strip black and white wires I'm gonna be reusing a flexible conduit from an old hot water heater the wires coming into a water heater must be protected from any physical damage this is why I'm using a flexible conduit it's super easy to install just stick one end of the flexible conduit inside one of the holes in the electrical box use a wire nut to tighten the flexible conduit to an electrical box strip the wires if needed connect the black wire to the black wire the white wire to the white wire and they wear wire to the bare wire using wire nuts install an electrical box cover and tighten the screws and now it's time to remove a hot water heater from its box place the new water heater in the drain pan ensure that it will have at least 6 inches of clearance on all sides or adequate ventilation before connecting quarter lines to the water heater I decided to work on the drywall and do some repairs as you can see drywall is done and now I can continue installing a new hot water heater because both pipes are too short now I'm gonna extend them when you cut old CPVC pipes it's better to cut them using multi-tool if you will try to use a pipe cutter you have a really high chance of breaking the pipe I'm using a sandpaper to clean inside of the pipes so first I'm gonna Prime the water pipes and to make an extension I'm going to be using three-quarter coupling when both pipes are primed now I can apply CPVC glue when both couplings are installed I'm gonna take measurements and I'm gonna cut a pipe for the extensions grab the water heater heat trip fitting pipe threads using Teflon tape screw both ends of stainless steel connectors onto the electric nipples and tighten with a wrench brush CPVC primer on the outside of the pipe and inside of the fitting about two inches deep apply a light layer of CPVC glue to the area that is primed outside the pipe and inside the fitting slide and twist the pieces together then hold them together firmly for 30 seconds repeat the same steps to connect elbows to the water lines tighten using a pipe wrench or adjustable pliers apply Teflon tape on three-quarter inch CPVC male adapter install the male adapter into the TMP relief valve tighten with a wrench or adjustable pliers use only copper or CPVC pipe as a discharge pipe position the discharge pipe from the tnp relief valve toward the floor or drain if there is no drain underneath the pipe put a pocket underneath to catch water dripping from the discharge pipe cut the pipe so it's no more than 6 inches above the bucket fill the tank slowly turn on the water supply and check connections around the water heater for leaks if you're leak free fill the tank if you have leaks shut off the water supply and gently tighten the connections repeat until connections are secure Flash the tank when water runs from the faucet the tank is full let the water run for 3 minutes to empty air and debris from the tank remove the junction box cover attach ground wire to the green ground screw connect the homes to power wires to the water heater's to power wires use suitable wire nuts to make the power connections secure the junction box cover with the screws provided when you finished turn on the power while I am waiting for the water to heat up it may take several hours for tank of cold water to heat up I'm gonna install insulation foam that already came with this hot water heater also it's a good idea to use zip ties on this insulation but unfortunately I couldn't find a right size in my local hardware store I'm gonna put all products I used in this video in the description below if you like the video hit the like button subscribe to my channel and share this video with others thanks so much for watching and I'll see you in the next video
