in this video i'm going to be installing this brown 688 bathroom exhaust van and if you're new to this channel my name is josh's channel it's all about building your own house saying a ton of money so be sure to subscribe ring that bell so you get notification every time i release a new video and hammer that like button for me that's all i ask me in terms of making this video so the first thing i'm going to do is unbox this thing get it prepared let's get started so the first thing you're going to want to do is open it up and unbox it so when we open it up let's see what we got inside here so we got the metal housing we got some instructions and we got the actual cover that this is what's going to look like from below and this does not have a light so the first thing we got to do is remove this fan motor so to do that you can see it's clipped into the side here so all you got to do is pull that housing over and lift up and it unhooks it from the housing so now we need to remove this portion as well so in order to do that all you got to do is you can see it just clipped into the sides in the corner here so you just got to pull up on it so we just gotta take the tension off and slide up and be careful there's some sharp edges here all right now that's removed and what we need to do now is see these side flaps here we need to bend those up so that's just going to give us a place to help keep it spaced correctly when it's butt up to the actual rafter or floor joist depending on if you're on a two-story or a single story and now what we need to do is install a clamp here going to be using the snap lock 3 8 clamps and anything here you can find in my amazon store i'll put a link in the description below i am an affiliate and i do get small commission this thing's only about this actual whole fan setup is only about 18 19 on there so it's a good deal so in order to install these pretty simple just slide it over your needle nose and you just rock it back and forth into the hole you're trying to install it in and push it into place and now we're anchored securely and this is what's going to actually secure our wire so it's very important to install that and now we're ready to go install it in the ceiling when you go to purchase your bathroom exhaust fan take a look at cfm's this stands for cubic feet per minute of airflow that the fan can handle that is going to be 50 in this case so this is for a smaller bathroom around at the most 80 square feet i think they actually recommend one cfm per square foot and this is zones this is how loud it is it stands for sound and four is actually relatively loud you can go down to 0.5 or even one and that's going to be very quiet so that's just some things you need to think about when you go to purchase your exhaust van so now i'm going to install this you're going to install it around the center of the room so i'm going to show you up above where i'm going to be installing this so let's take a look this is a new construction job we want to make sure we get the bathroom fan as close to center as we can so from this wall to this wall is the edge so about in this bay here between these rafters and the bulk of the bathrooms from this wall to this wall so we're going to have the center somewhere right in here right here is our center line where the fan needs to be installed and this is going to be installed right like this and i always try to point this towards the direction of where it's going to be exiting the house and in this case it's in this rafter bay and now if you have to sometimes might have to mount a block if you need to go point another direction so you would have to put a block in between here just so you can mount it this way and just take note that this is the mounting brackets right here so as you can see you can put the screws in and then slide the fan over it the screws i'm going to be using is inch and 5 8 decking screws so the first thing i'm going to do is set this up where it's going to go and that's why you bend these flanges out so it can rest right against the rafter and that looks good and now i'm going to mark where the screw needs to go and then we're going to place the screws on the actual rafter and this is when you're going to need a impact driver or drill whatever you got in this case i need a number two bit to drive these screws so we'll go ahead and put these in now what i like to do is bend these flanges back down because they can be in the way if you don't and then slide it over the screws using the mounting flange all right and pull down make sure you're in very snuggly and then bend those flanges back and everything looks like it's down into place looks good and then go ahead and tighten up those screws a little more if you need to so now our fan is secured and the next thing we need to do is wire up where the wiring is going to be coming through [Music] all right first thing we need to do is fish that wire this is 12 2 wire by the way into that remex connector and then tighten it up so what we got to do now is go ahead and strip this wire [Music] now take a pair of wire strippers and strip off about a quarter inch to 3 8 of an inch of the ends of the wires and now you connect the green to the ground the white to the white and the black to the black via simple wire nuts [Music] if you don't feel comfortable doing wiring like this be sure to hire an electrician to do it just fyi and now i'm just going to shove these back up into that corner now we got to reinstall this plate and this more or less just turns into a receptacle really is all it does and just try to stuff everything up in there and push this up into place now it's time to install the fan motor in order to do that you simply just slide this up into the housing make sure your brackets line up with the bracket slots and slide it up into those bracket slots and then after they slide up into one side just push all the way up you'll hear it click and now we have our outlet here we already installed i call it an outlet because that's what it reminds me of and then you simply just plug that into place this cover gets installed after the drywall but i'll show you how to install it's very simple in order to do it you just lift up on these brackets and squeeze it together and then it slides up in these little slots like so i'm not going to do it right now because it's kind of a pain to get them out but it hangs like that and just push it up all the way until it's tight against the drywall now it's time to install the three inch flex duct to exit the house i'm going to be using this three inch flexible aluminum duct and this is pretty simple to install you're also going to need some 3m duct tape this stuff is very very sticky so if you don't have experience with it be extra cautious so first thing you got to do you simply take your duct work out of the packaging which that seems pretty self-explanatory and then you're going to want to flex it out here on the end and just make sure you got the ends all nice and uh flattened out as best you can and then you simply just slide it over the piece that's going to be hooked to your exhaust fan i'll let that extend out and now what you need to do is just go ahead and pull off enough tape to go clear around that duct work and now i like to leave a little bit of that plastic exposed because it gives you a place for that duct tape to seal to and then just go ahead and simply tape around it again this isn't very complicated but if you've never done it you may just not know where to start and again this stuff can can give you a little bit of a fit [Music] it's hard to get the camera to show you how this connects to this because of where it's located but as you can see here it just connects to a vent in the side of the house then we turn that fan on these flaps open up and the moisture or the air you're trying to ventilate out of the house comes right through there and you just connect it just like you did to the exhaust fan but it's a metal pipe stub through the side which i can show you on the ground inside the house here how that works so on the back side of that vent that's in the wall you're going to have a pipe similar to this and all you do is just do the same process you're going to slide it over that pipe and then just take your duct tape and tape around it like so just like you see me do the exhaust fan i hope you found the information you needed in this video again check out my amazon store for some of the products that you've seen in this video and be sure to subscribe because i release diy videos about twice a week and i know you don't want to miss those all right guys i got a lot of got to get done in this house yet so i'll see you in the next video have a good one
