you know that kind of magical feeling that you get around New Year's where everything feels like really new really fresh really cleans lady and you feel really motivated when you do a weekly reset you kind of get to recreate a little bit of that magical New Year's feeling I started doing weekly research about two years ago now this is the first video that I film for YouTube it's showing you guys my weekly reset process I promise you that if you do a few simple things of a Sunday your week will be dramatically improved its morphed a lot since then but the point of it is still the same to refresh myself you get ready for a new week and get myself to that clean slate feeling sorry in this video I want to go through how I walk through my weekly reset process to improve my next week so you can get inspired to do or in kind of weekly reset or just take bits and pieces from it that you know will help you throughout your week so it all starts with a checklist now this checklist is completely inspired by David Allen's getting things done the first part of the weekly reset process is to get clear so this is just to clear out all of the crap there's just so much that sort of like weighs you down during the week there's so much stuff that builds up in the background that you don't realize is taking a toll on your minds that's sort of what the get Cleo section is about just clearing everything out so that you have that little clean slate so the first thing that I do to get clear is I clear out my inbox and get it as close to zero as possible because having a clear amok is like having a clear mind so last night I went through my email inbox and I got it to literally zero which is the u.s. feeling and I've come in today with a few more emails so I'm just gonna reply to them as the start of my weekly review and then we're gonna move along even if you're a person that doesn't get lots of like businessí emails or emails in general just having a clear box is going to make you feel good the next thing that I do is I clear out my Google key or for you it might be your iPhone notes or it might be Evernote whatever know keeping apps that you use most people use some kind of note keeping up even if it's not in a super formal structured way Google keep is literally my filing system so whatever what whirring take away I took my take away order in there if someone's like oh you should watch this TV show read this book i chuck it in google cape so I like to go through my google cape and just get rid anything that I no longer need and label things where they need to be labeled so that everything is nice and organized and I trust my little system after that I clear up my desktop and my downloads folder on my computer my desktop I love having a clear desktop it just makes me feel good first thing I see when I sit on my computer it's just this nice clear space that's not filled with any clutter next up I find any loose papers that are hanging around my desk and any mail that I have received and so from now I'll usually chuck out a lot of the loose papers that I find you just seem to collect papers no matter what even in this day and age if I have like business cards or notes that I really want to remember I'll take photos of those things I don't put them in my Google keep there's no better feeling that having a head bag that literally just has like your wallet your keys your phone and your lipstick in it that's it maybe a pen as well so I like to clear out my handbag as well as clear out my wallet I don't like having like a bunch of receipts stuck to my wallet all or I don't collect that many receipts these days but it's just nice to clear it all out and have a whole bunch of space in your handbag gives you that fresh feeling when you're carrying it around so once I have cleared my life and given myself a room to start fresh I like to get current so this section of my reset is kind of all about just getting on top of your shoes just being like yes I know what is happening in my life like all of my tutors are on paper my calendars up to date everything is current first things first and any events that you've agreed to or things that you plan to your calendar so if you plan it out with the girls chocolate in there when you talk to that person the other weekend said you'd catch up with them for coffee put that event invite in there the good thing about putting all your events in is that when you chuck them in you'll find yourself like remembering you agreed to do something with a friend like you'll be like oh I agreed to go to that exercise class we're so sorry of course you need to actually use the calendar for to have an impact but if you keep a weekly reset process then you'll be able to keep it current after that you want to brain dump your - duze brain dumping your - duze is one of the best ways to just calm your brain down the point of a brain dump is to get out all of the little things that are stuffed inside of your head that you're constantly reminding yourself off without it taking up mental energy and putting them onto paper or in some kind of safe space that could be a to-do app that could be a notebook it's entirely up to you what your safe space is just make sure it's a space that you are actually revisiting and you actually use because otherwise your brain won't trust that space and it'll keep on reminding you of all those things that you have to do so when you're doing your brain dump you can use a trigger list so David Allen has his own little triggers to remind you of things that you might have on your mind I have my own little trigger list that I created for my 30 days to simplify ebook if you're interested in that I'll have it linked below so usually I just have my brain dumb trick list on one side of the screen and then I have my to-do app on the other side of the screen my little inbox where I just start like dumping out all of the tutors I don't like to put any dates on things that don't actually need dates because I don't need that pressure in my life I can technically clean up my white shoes at any point in time and there's no point in putting pressure on myself to get it done by this week for no real reason I will put a little due date on anything that's time-sensitive so like half divided birthday present by this day so when I'm brain dumping I like to check the last like two weeks of my calendar and then the next four or five however many weeks of my calendar upcoming it'll just remind me that like in that meeting last week I agreed that I would send every document that I haven't yet sent over and I'll see that like in two weeks time it's someone's birthday so I need to get prepared for that I'll also check my Google keep in any papers and stuff that I have lying around because it'll all trigger little things that have been floating around in your mind so then I like to categorize my to-do so this might be bordering on neurotic to some people but I find it incredibly helpful when all you're to do is adjust from one place and they don't have a context around them it just becomes this big mishmash of a bunch of crab that like you don't want to look at or is if you categorize stuff it makes it feel nice and clean and accessible and easy I use the app things three so my little categories are things like home errands foreign computer the good thing about having your list set up like this is that if you go on an errand you can check your errands list and see is there anything else that I can do while I'm here so you can get it all done in that one space of time rather than just spacing it out because it's not all organized nicely by context so next up I like to actually go through all of my lists and tick off anything that's already been done because it tends to be that throughout the week you've already gotten a lot of the things on your list done and you don't even necessarily do it consciously I also like to look at anything that's been hanging on my list for a while because there will be items like that that you just like avoided doing and look at those items and be like okay is this too complicated like what happen clarified about this to do do I even need to do this is someone else about a person to be doing this I also look at my project so pretty much anything that takes more than one step it becomes a project so you want to look at your projects and you want to make sure that you have at least one actionable steps at every single project because otherwise you're never going to move forward on those projects so you'll find when you do your weekly reset that there are gonna be like little areas that you'll slack off on so this thing I've found that my projects are kind of slacking so like I'm deep diving into my projects and being like okay or all of these actionable all of these things that I can work on like how do I actually get started on these and that's the cave to the weekly reset it's just that you have to be doing it every single week and you're always revisiting and you're always picking up where you might have been slack one week and some weeks you have like really intense weekly resets where you're just like okay I'm getting deep into this and you take like a good amount of hours whereas other weeks it's like oh I'm just gonna psych push this into one hour so long as you do it every single week the weekly reset can just have a such an impact on your clarity of mind the last part of my weekly reset is more just looking at my personal life I checked my little local adventures that I want to go on at least and I asked myself is there any opportunity that I had to actually do any of these adventures they're like can I a message a friend of me like hey let's do this next week my local adventures list is getting smaller and smaller so the adventure that I am scheduling in this week it's tropical fruit world I've never been there I always drive past it on the Murda way if I'm not reading a book which to be honest I usually am then I prompt myself to check my books to read list and pick apples that I'd like to read then I have a some day maybe it is so this will usually be filled with like fun creative projects that you're just not really ready to do right now but in the future you definitely want to think about doing them so it's a good idea to look at this every week so that you're not just like putting all these fun ideas down and never actually taking action on them if you liked this video you'll probably enjoy watching my previous weekly reset videos so I'll have a link to a playlist on the screen that you can click on I think it's best to steal different bits and pieces from different people's systems because what works for me isn't necessarily going to be what works to a tee for you so check out my other weekly reviews the end card I appreciate you guys so very much and I will see you soon
