How to Identify Gold, just by looking at it! Silverpicker's Guide Episode #4

hello everybody silver picker here and welcome to the fourth installation of my silver Pickers guide uh in this episode like all the others I'm going to teach you how to become a real professional picker you're going to learn the ins and outs of how I go about making my money I do very very well uh I am a part-time picker but I definitely could go full-time if I so chose uh I prefer not to but uh you guys I really hope you guys go out and try picking um whether it's fulltime or time you guys can really really make some nice supplemental income in this video I'm going to show you guys how to tell what is gold what is real gold by the look and feel now I warn you before you watch any further it is going to be really really difficult to convey this over a camera because it's about look and feel and lighting and it's not the kind of thing that you can really see on a video but I'm going to try and give you some tips uh that you can you know sort of practice in your real life over here this piece this piece and this piece are all real gold this one is not when you look at gold you can see that it's got this rich rich color and this Rich texture and this Rich type of reflectivity you look here you can tell I can tell easily right away that this is real gold by the way that the edges when they're shaved down you can see where the Jeweler made these cuts on the very edges you can see the reflectivity that's that is the real gold the scratches that it has on the K and the I on the flat pieces the grooves in between the machined Parts on the on the uh surrounding edges these are all things that you have to get used to by looking at real gold so when you get a real piece of gold and you determine from your various tests that something is real gold I want you to really study it and see how it's constructed so that when you go to a garage sale or you go to a private purchase or an auction you're going to know what's gold even if it's not marked I can tell you that without a doubt I have literally made thousands of dollars buying gold that's not marked I've been at garage sales at 400 p.m. when tons and tons of Pickers have already rolled through and there is pieces of gold sitting out for the picking at 25 cents 50 cents a piece because there's no marking but I could tell by the texture I can tell by the color and by the feel that it is indeed real gold look at the reflectivity on this it's got a richness to it now I can't really tell you you know exactly what the difference is but it's something you have to practice this it has this just Bland reflectivity overly shiny the way I look at it is this piece has no soul gold has a soul you can see it you can feel it over here you can tell by the construction look at here this is a classic antique gold clasp excuse me look how it's sealed look how it's welded closed look at the design look at the ribbing on it these are the kind of things you have to look out for just symbols that will trigger your mind to think think gold look here this does not look like gold in fact it looks like a cheap piece of of uh silverplated uh garbage however notice the same clasps I didn't see these together but I recognize this clasp as a gold antique clasp so I thought hey maybe it just came from the chain maybe it's not really gold but it's worth the chance same thing with the star here it's really tough to pick up on camera but the star absolutely looks like gold I ended up testing it and the whole thing is gold so I really hit a home run there but it's the kind of thing that you really just need to practice you need to see this is actually a typical uh design for a uh pocket watch casing you know this sort of um circular ground down uh design over here it's nothing the weight is off the color is off the feel the way the edges are ground down the clasp everything about this is wrong and as you can see with our magnet over here it is undoubtedly not gold so again I know that this video didn't give you so much actual usable information but what it did give you is it gives you an opportunity to go take a look at the Gold that you have that you have as jewelry that your mother has whatever it is anything you know to be real gold look at it feel it see how it reflects in different lights outside inside and take a look at the clasps and the construction and then at a piece of something you know Is Not Gold but is gold colored and see what it looks like compared to it and just get yourself a good feel for it I promise you this knowledge will pay for itself so anyway I want you guys to
