what is going on YouTube Mr original rush and today I'm going to be showing you how to hook up your iMac to a TV as a secondary monitor now this is via HDMI so let's go ahead and get started the first thing you're going to need is an HDMI cable obviously um I have a 9 foot rocket fish one um I prefer rocket fishes products um and the second thing you're going to need is a mini displayed HDMI adapter now this one's rocket fishes um if you guys don't know what a mini display is it's basically Apple's Thunderbolt so um I like to get started by plugging one end of the HDMI into the HDMI adapter so let me go ahead and do that and then we'll cut to the next step so now that we've plugged in the HD HDMI adapter you want to go ahead and get the second end to the adapter which is the mini display and you want to go to the back of your iMac now I don't know if all iMacs have this but I I do know that mine which is a mid 2013 um version has it so you want to go ahead get the mini display go to the back you're going to see um right here there these two ones next to the EET cord now let's go ahead and just kind of focus maybe you can see the uh you can't really see the signs but they do have like a little oh yeah you can on the right hand one you can see a little Thunderbolt kind of thing that's the Thunderbolt so go ahead get your mini display which is right here and plug it into one of those so let's just go ahead and try to do this while I'm filming I'm doing this while looking at the camera that's probably not a smart idea God damn it all right we're just going to go ahead and cut to it all right so step number two is in we have plugged in the mini display to the iMac so now this third part is going to be grabbing your other HDMI end which is right here and you want to plug this into the HDMI input on your TV now like I do with all the other steps we're going to cut and when I have this done so now we're back here at the back of my TV I have plugged in the second end of the HDMI into it so now you just want to turn your TV on and go to the HDMI input channel that you have your HDMI plugged into now let's go ahead and come right here um here you see on screen that mine is not mirrored so you don't see the same exact thing as you do on your Mac on your TV which is what we want so I'm going to go ahead and tell you how to do that so let's go ahead and um come right over here to the Mac now what you want to do is go ahead and just come right up here let's go ahead and try to focus this is it Focus yes if you want to come over here to this little icon right here you want to click on it now this is going to say turn display mirroring off you want to go ahead and click on that and then it'll turn into turn display mirroring on and then you'll have the TV which right over there there as a second Monitor and you can go ahead and put different things onto that TV so um yeah another thing is if say your picture is not fitting on your TV you want to go down to system preferences uh let's go ahead find my mouse go down to system preferences go up to let's go get this to focus you want to go up to displays and then you're going to see that this box comes up on your Mac and then you're going to see that this box right over here comes up on your TV which is going to say you know your TV model mine is Samsung so it isn't to do that and then it's going to give you the resolution and um and then a color option what you want to do is make sure that the refresh rate is on the highest and then you want to go ahead and just click through the resolutions and um pick which one's best for your TV or you can pick best for display and it'll automatically do that for you now mine's on the right hand side of my Mac so you know I can drag stuff to the right hand side of the screen and it'll show up onto my onto my TV but say you have yours on the left hand side all you want to do is just go ahead go to Arrangement and you see this little box right here this is going to be um your second monitor or TV and that big one right to the left of it is going to be the main iMac monitor so what you want to do is just go ahead click on this one hold and then just drag it to the left hand side and then your screen should go black for a bit and then let go focus when you come up here instead of um instead of me dragging it to the left I can drag it to the left now and it'll show up on the TV but that's not what we want let's go ahead and leave it there and just switch this back to the right hand side and then you can just go ahead and exit out of this and that's technically here it's nice and easy and it's cheap I'll leave links in the description to where you can find the HDMI um or Thunderbolt HDMI adapter I hope you guys enjoyed the video If you guys did and it did to help you go ahead like this video and please subscribe to my channel I post every Tuesday and Thursday um but as always it's been Mr original Rush catch you on the next one bye
