How to Homebrew Your Nintendo 3DS 11.16

[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey everyone i just wanted to make this video because the 3ds just came out with a new system update and we're now on version 11.16 so that kind of makes my last video obsolete but anyways now that we're on this version i wanted to show you guys a fresh install for this jailbreak so i'm going to be doing that today if you're going to be updating though if you're wondering about that if you're on version 11.15 it is safe to update at this time but the previous version or the previous way of hacking this console will be different now so uh let's just get right into this so i'm already on my system settings here you can see i'm on version 11.16 that's what we want if you're not on this version you can go ahead and perform the update now i'm gonna back up and just close out of this and one thing that we're going to note while we're here is we're going to go into our friends list and we're going to grab our friend code so just select your profile and you'll see that mine's right here so just jot that down and we're going to be using that in a second now that we've gotten that written down we're going to go ahead and turn off the 3ds take the sd card out which i'll be showing you guys how to do in case you don't know how so if you flip your 3ds over you're going to see that there's two screws right here on the back all you got to do is just loosen them up you don't have to take the screws out just loosen them up and then you're going to take your stylus and use kind of the longer end here to get into this crevice on both sides to lift the case up and it should just pop right out and then you'll see your micro sd card right here in the middle so we're just going to pop this out and put this into the computer if your computer does not have a micro sd card reader you're going to need a little adapter like i have here this is just a little sandisk adapter so you just insert the micro sd card right into that and then you can plug this into your computer instead okay now that we're on the computer we're gonna go ahead and follow the 3ds hack guide and huge shout out to them for getting this done in a super timely manner so just scroll down we're still going to be using the same thing as last time we're going to be using seedminer this time it'll be for our version 11.16.0 so just open up seed binder and from this page we're just going to scroll down and select the brute force movable and we're just skipping that section because we already have what we need for this so if you've done this before you're just going to hit start again and you're going to type in your friend code so we jotted this down earlier i'm just going to type in mine and now it's going to ask you for your id0 so now we're going to open up our sd card and with the sd card you're going to see you have a nintendo 3ds folder once you open this this long string of text here is what's known as your id0 so we're just going to copy this whole thing and paste that right here and then we're going to hit go okay now while we wait it's going to ask us to add a bot into our 3ds friends list and we're going to have to register it using this code that's here on the screen this is probably going to be different every time you add it i'm not really sure about that but just enter what's on your screen at the time uh so what we're going to do is just head over to our friends list on the 3ds so just give me one second now that we're here we're just going to hit register friend go to internet and we're going to type in all those numbers that we saw just a second ago and then press ok and it's going to ask you if you'd like to name your friend you can name whatever you'd like i'm just going to name mine poop it's going to ask if you want to add them as a friend so just hit a for ok now sometimes it won't ask you for a name it'll just automatically create one for you with a given name so if you're not prompted to do that don't worry about it now we're just going to head back over to the website now after the friend has been added to your friends list the site's going to make you wait anywhere between one and five minutes as it gets what it needs so just give it one second okay once everything's all done you're going to see you have the option to download movable.sed or sed however you want to pronounce it so just click that and we're going to head back over to the guide so let's just scroll down because we just did all this and now we have to install boot9 strap by using the unsafe mode which is currently the recommended thing to do at this time so let's just continue on and install boot9 strap so let's scroll down and it's going to give you the things that you need to do this so we have our movable.sed which we just grabbed the latest release of safe b9s installer so just click that the latest release of boot9 strap and the latest release of luma3ds and in here we're just going to click the zip file okay continuing on if you have your 3ds turned on currently go ahead and power that off we don't need that on right now and once that's done we're going to open the safe mode exploit injector so just click that and this is where your movable.sed comes into place so just click choose file and select that and then we're going to select build and download continuing on we're going to start structuring our files here so open up your sd card and i'm going to open up a new window here for all of our downloads now the first thing i'm going to do is extract everything so this boot9 strap here i'm just going to right click and go to extract 2 and we're going to do this for all of them and then once it's done we can go ahead and delete these and that kind of cleans things up a little bit so while we're on here we're going to go to the root of our sd card and we're going to make a new folder we're going to call it boot 9 strap no capital letters or anything just boot 9 strap we're going to open this up and head over to our downloads so we have our folder called boot9 strap 1.4 we're going to open that up and we're going to take the dot firm and sha here and just toss that in and head back over to the root again and back for the downloads so next up we have luma so we're going to open this up and you're going to have our boot.firm and boot.3dsx we're going to take both of these and this is going to go on the root of our sd backing up again we have the safeb9s installer let's open this up and we're going to take the safe b9s installer.bin and we're going to toss that right on the root of the sd and now we have unsafe mode we're going to open this up and we're going to take the usm.bin and we're going to throw that right on the root of rsd and now lastly we're going to go into the nintendo 3ds folder we're going to open up our id0 this is your id1 we're going to open this up and you should have a dsiware folder if you don't have one we're just going to create one go to new folder and we're going to type in nintendo dsi where just like how i have it here now if you already have a nintendo dsiware folder you're going to want to back up everything that's in it so just grab whatever contents you may have and just throw them on your desktop or wherever you want to place them for later use if you need them so from here we're going to open up the nintendo dsiware folder and we're going to go and take this f00d435d5 dot bin and throw this right into the nintendo ds i wear on our sd card and that's it so now we can take our sd card out and head back over to the 3ds okay now that we're back on the 3ds we're going to open up the system settings go to data management and we're going to select dsiware from here select your micro sd card you're gonna notice your screen changes here but you're gonna see that you have a bunch of options that you can select from here we're gonna select inject hacks so just press a and it'll say unsafe mode installed and it will power off the device automatically okay now here's the fun part with your 3ds turned off we have to get this thing to boot into safe mode now in order to do that we have to hold the left shoulder the right shoulder up on the d-pad the a button and the power button after you tap the power button you're going to want to hold all those keys down until the screen appears once you get a screen that pops up it's going to ask you if you want to update your nintendo 3ds system we're going to hit ok and you're going to hit i accept it's going to ask you to plug in an ac adapter just hit ok it's going to say connect into the internet and it's going to try to perform this update now the thing is is it's not going to perform you're going to get an error code you're going to see 0031099 this is supposed to happen so this is what we want so we're just going to hit okay and it's going to ask you if you'd like to configure internet settings so just hit yes we're going to go over to connection 1 and we're going to go to change settings then we're going to go over to the next page and we're going to select proxy settings then select detailed setup and you're going to get that little funky colors on your screen but that's okay that's normal and you're gonna see a bunch of things we're installing down at the bottom here and you're gonna have this thing on the top half of the screen that's gonna tell you to input a bunch of key combos so we're just gonna go ahead and enter those and we're going to let this do its thing once it's all done it'll say sig hacks firm install success press a to continue so i'm going to do just that then it's going to take you to another menu but you don't need to worry about any of these settings here you just need to hit the start button which will reboot your console now congratulations we now have custom firmware installed on our 3ds but we're not done yet we have to restore our wi-fi configurations here because we don't want to keep that on there so go ahead and open up the system settings on your nintendo 3ds and we're going to go to data management and select dsiware then we're going to go to micro sd card and it's going to bring you to this screen again but this time we're going to select restore slots just press the a button and the 3ds will reboot so now we're going to finalize this setup we're just going to get some basic applications that are used on this device and i'll explain more as we go along so let's just head back over to the pc and bring your sd card along with you okay so now that we're back on the pc the first thing that we're going to want to do is navigate into our nintendo 3ds folder on our sd card we're going to open up our id 0 select your id1 and we're going to go into the nintendo dsiware folder that we created previously then we're just going to delete this dot bin file here just get that out of here and then return to the root of your device and we will continue on with adding all of our other applications so now with finalizing this setup we have some basic things we're going to add like fbi which installs cia formatted applications and ammonia 3ds sorry if i butchered that but this installs custom themes checkpoint which is for backups and save restores universal updater which is a homebrew app store for downloading homebrew from the 3ds over wi-fi god mode 9 which is a multi-purpose tool which can do nand dumps and other things and the homebrew launcher loader so a couple of applications here these are all basic and necessities for continuing on so let's go ahead and get this done okay so to start off we have all the applications we're going to need here we're just going to go to anamonie3d again sorry about the name and we're going to select the dot cia file going back we're going to go to checkpoint and again with the cia file then the homebrew launcher wrapper once again with the cia file universal updater cia file fbi now this one's going to be the dot 3dsx and the dot cia and then we have god mode 9 which this one's just going to be a zip file all right so now we're all done with the downloads we just got to open up our sd card and our download folder scoop this over open this up okay so once again the first step is going to be extracting whatever needs to be extracted first and that's going to be god mode so just go to extract to god mode and then we can delete the zip i didn't mean to change it but either way it's getting deleted and now on the root of our sd card i'm going to right click and go to new folder and we're going to label this cias or cias and just press enter and inside of this folder we're going to take every dot cia file that we got so we got one two three four five we're going to toss that right into our cia's file and then return to the root of rsd continuing on we're going to make another new folder this one's going to be 3ds and this is going to be different than your nintendo 3ds folder it's just going to be 3ds inside of here we're going to put the fbi.3dsx just toss that right in and we're done with this next up we want to go into our luma folder and we're going to create a new folder called payloads p-a-y-l-o-a-d-s inside of here we're going to open up the god mode 9 that we just extracted and we're going to take the god mode 9 dot firm and drag that right in then back up to the root of your sd card again and you're going to take the gm 9 folder and drag that right to the root of your sd card as well and once again we're all done with the sd card so let's just go ahead and insert that back in the 3ds and we'll continue on once we're back on the main menu screen here we're going to open up the download play application and once it loads up and you see your two options for nintendo 3ds or nintendo ds we're going to select the left shoulder down on the d-pad and the select button this will bring up the rosalina menu and we're going to go down to miscellaneous options here and press a then we're going to select switch the hb title to the current app once you do that it'll say operation succeeded just hit b back all the way back to this menu here press home close this and then reopen it and once we reopen it you're going to notice that it is now the homebrew launcher which is good and now we're going to input the same key combo that we just did prior once again so that'll be left shoulder down on the d-pad and the select button once again we're gonna go to miscellaneous options and we're gonna select dump dsp firmware once you do that it's going to say dsp firm successfully written to the sd card just press b and we're going to go to nullify user time offset as well right above it so select a say operation succeeded please reboot to finalize the changes but we're not going to reboot just yet just hit b we're going to back all the way to the homebrew launcher menu here that way we can select fbi once you open that up you're going to see a bunch of options here but we're going to keep it highlighted on sd just press a navigate over to the cias folder press a again keep the current directory highlighted just press a and select install and delete all cias you'll get a little prompt here that says install and delete all cias in the current directory just select yes and this will take maybe a minute or two so i'll be right back and when we're all done with that we just got to hit the home button and you're going to get a prompt on the screen telling you that you've got a bunch of new applications so if you want to open these you can we have the homebrew updater we have the homebrew launcher fbi which we just used a save manager and a theme tool and now that we're done looking at this we can go ahead and power off our device so now with this off we need to boot into god mode 9 so we're going to hold the start button and press the power button and now we have to change around a few things in here so first up just hit the home button this will activate the action menu and we're going to navigate into scripts gm9 mega script scripts from playlist guide and we're going to select set up luma3ds to ctrnand so just press a it's going to give you a prompt to continue press a again and it's going to ask you if you want to unlock part of the system name just press a and finally you're going to get a prompt asking you to input some key commands so just put those in and it should install pretty instantly so just press a to continue and then right underneath it you're gonna see we have the option to clean up sd card so press a on that this is gonna get rid of a bunch of unwanted files that we don't want on here so just press a again and now your sd card is squeaky clean from setup files press a to continue and we're going to press the b button and now we have the option for backup options press a select system nand backup and press a again you're gonna need about 1.3 gigabytes free on your sd card to perform this but this is very essential you need to get this done and this is for in case you accidentally break your 3ds this is just you know a layer of protection for you to have for later so while it's doing this just let this install and i'll be back in a second okay once the nand dump is complete just press the a button to continue press the b button the b button and it's going to ask you if you have any right permissions that were changed press a to relock them also i forgot to mention earlier if you have any prompts when you get on god mode 9 at first like if you're prompted to fix the rtc date and time or make an essential files backup just go ahead and do that there's nothing wrong with that sometimes it just doesn't pop up like it didn't for me but yeah i just wanted to mention that now lastly here on the 3ds on the top half of the screen we're going to navigate into the sysnand virtual folder press a and then we're going to select the essential.exe fs folder press a and down the bottom you're going to have the option to copy to the gm9 out folder just press a to continue and it'll tell you that it was done and just press a to continue again so now just hit the home button and select power off system now we just got to do one more thing and we'll be good to go so just take your sd card out and let's head back over to the pc okay so the final thing that we're going to do is we're going to take our nand dump and save it to our pc in case anything were to happen to our sd card so we're going to navigate into our luma folder this doesn't happen all the time but if you have a backup folder in here you're going to take it and drag it into this 3ds backup folder that i just made on the desktop you can drag it wherever you'd like but that's where i'm going to be placing it then we're going to go back and we're going to select the gm9 folder go to out and here we have everything we need so we're going to make a copy of everything and just drag that into our folder just give this a second while everything transfers over when that's all done we'll keep the essential.exe fs file here but we'll delete the top two these will save you some space on your sd card that way you don't have to worry about running out of any space so i think that's it that pretty much covers everything i hope you guys enjoy your newly modded 3ds console and i'll catch you guys next time
