so you want to have a potter's wheel at home bold move in this video I'm going to show you everything you need to know about having the potter's wheel at home [Music] okay when I first film this I messed up the exposure and it looks like this so I'm just gonna show you some sexy throwing shots while I roll the audio so first things first where are you now I recommend having about 1 meter of space around your wheel that is like designated wheel space this is going to be an area that you can get dirty our garage is great balcony is great or just your living room is also possible so what parts of your home can you get dirty and also what floor do you have in your home so here we have a vinyl that works great especially something that has a very smooth texture tile would probably be ideal or polished concrete even would would be ok so on any gaps it's not very textured when you know what is highly textured flooring because you're never going to be able to get the clay off you want to make it really easy for you to move it or wipe it up with the sponge you cannot grow on carpet you're just going to ruin your crouppen because all sorts of dust issues so what do you do if the only place that you can throw estaban flooring well you can put down with some sort of plastic mat we've been fine a tarp and you can just take it outside kind of hose off maybe and I've even seen in a throwing station set up that's inside of a small pool one of those plastic pools that kids play in you know whatever works so in terms of furniture that you need you're gonna need something to sit on so we use these stools here they're just five euros at IKEA but you can also use a chair or whatever you have you know use your dining room chair or whatever you just need something to sit on you'll also need a table or something that's you know table height so that you can wedge your clay as her recommend making a wedging board and that is with a pan Vasseur cloth wrapped around it actually in my last video I explained how we make these boards so I'll go ahead and check that up and this will be your wedging station you're also going to need some shelves to put your work so I definitely recommend getting more shelves than you think that you're going to need and very minimum to get one of the bank of shelves pretty soon you're going to be dreaming a whole wall of shelves and you know one thing's sure about pottery never have too many shelves and all you need is your tools I recommend a large pocket that you can use for cleaning and a small bucket for throwing so I like to have for for Brian so I can easily grab the water you want to have one small sponge for throwing one large sponge for cleaning then you just need your basic throw tools you know whatever you like to use for programs I always use a sponge a wire tool a wooden knife needle tool under it these are my kind of go to tools for any kind of filling you will also need a towel ideally two three four five towels that you can use potteries of messy hobby class you will need somewhere boards so where boards are just you know wooden boards that you can put your pieces on when you're finished I recommend going to your local hardware store and looking in the offcuts bin where they have the cheap wood and you don't need any type of board I've got MDF I've got firewood about all the different kinds of wood anything using something harder and ideally not chips and then I always keep a stack of newspapers in the studio as well because when I'm throwing I like to cover the where boards and newspaper so the pieces don't stick to the boards okay well that is pretty much it the rest is just details or optional you really don't need that much the biggest investment will be the wheel so wherever you can find a wheel I definitely recommend looking for a loose wheel riyo's can get very expensive and you know nowadays you see a lot of wheels being sold online for less than 500 euro and don't buy those I mean I've never seen one myself in reality but I just hear the worst things about them you know people are really exploiting this pottery trend and yeah just save up your money you know make an investment and buy a good wheel or if you're lucky buy a wheel that you find use just make sure it's a proper name brand via or ask around in the pottery community to see if they recognize this brand and wheel before you go spending the big bucks that's it for me today see you guys next time please write down in the comments below what else you want to know about setting up your own pottery space at heart or any other thing else you want to learn about pottery and open book so just and I will do my best to make that the next video see you guys next time
