How to Grow and Care for Calla Lily - Plants Indoors

we love plants they transform a space give us something to nurture to make us happy and we love calla lilies they're gorgeous they've got all these lovely bell-shaped flowers that come in all sorts of enchanting colors let's Dive In [Music] calla lilies or Santa Jessica I fiopica are some of the most iconic flowers out there they have a curious almost abstract Bell shape and come in a wide variety of Rich colors they also last a while after being cut making them a great choice for artistic bouquets it's not hard to figure out why these plants are so popular as gifts I really love the look of these flowers they almost seem to have been poured into this shape like they're somewhere between a liquid and a solid they come in a lot of delicate Hues like this but my favorite is actually a dramatic dark purple flower almost black calla lilies can be grown Outdoors but I think these will look great in a pot I'm going to be using this Rich while draining potting mix for my calla lilies before I choose a pot I'm first going to take a look at the rhizome and roots to make sure we're choosing the right size first I'll remove this top layer of moss and then work on knocking away the soil to expose the rhizome I'm noticing that there are two distinct clusters perhaps I'll pot them separately yeah let's break this rhizome apart oh looks like it's actually two separate rhizomes how lucky let's get to potting shall we I have these twin pots here that will work perfectly for these two lilies these roots are quite exposed so I'm going to use my Chopstick to ensure that my soil is making its way into all the nooks and crannies between the roots and that's it these two look great together to know when it's time to water check the soil with a finger feels dry don't water these plants too heavily especially when first planting once the rhizomes are established water once a weekly if needed they also enjoy humidity and moisture and will definitely appreciate a muggy summer consider a humidifier if your space is dry lilies are tropical plants and love dappled indirect sunlight partial shade is best in warm climates they like a fairly warm environment and tend to go dormant if temperatures get much below 50 degrees the name kala comes from beautiful in Greek in Roman mythology Venus the goddess of love and beauty felt threatened by their appearance and she cursed the flower to be less beautiful adding the yellow piston in the center of the flowers personally I think that only added to their beauty so the joke's on Venus all lilies are highly toxic to kids and pets make sure they stay out of reach of little ones and that's all you need to know about these beautiful elegant flowers [Music]
