the last job on any tiling project is to grout between your tiles so in this video I'm going to show you how to do that so you end up with a really nice looking finish which is exactly what you deserve after all your hard work to get to this point now the main tool I'm going to be using is a grout float now this has a really nice soft spongy face which will help push the grout in between the tiles without damaging any of the glaze on them together with a sponge and a bucket of water should I say buckets of water because we're going to have to change that water a few times to get the tiles clean the grout I'm going to be using today is this mud flexible floor and wall grout in Gray which I think will contrast nicely with my white tiles now my first tip for successful grouting more than any other tiling process is preparation first thing you need to do is to make sure your tiles are a hundred percent clean any bits of adhesive on the face needs to be removed check every joint both horizontally and vertically and if any adhesive is close to the surface it needs to go like I am here I'd recommend doing this with something plastic rather than steel as you might end up scratching and damaging the new tiles once you've checked every single joint and you're 100 happy then mask off any areas around the perimeter of where you plan to grout to keep them clean and put down some type of protection on the floor because grout will inevitably end up dropping off the wall onto the floor during this process so now that everything's clean and prepared it's time to mix up some grout and just another little tip anything that comes in a powdered format like this or adhesive goes hard not by drying out but by a chemical reaction as soon as the water hits that that reaction has started and you've only got a certain amount of time before it starts going hard so my tip is don't mix up a whole bag For the First time mix up a small amount see how you get on and then maybe in the second batch you can mix up some more but whatever you do don't mix up a whole bag and end up throwing half of it away I mix the grout in the same way as tile adhesive in a bucket with a mechanical stirrer and as usual making sure I'm using the right PPU which is gloves masks and eye protection and the consistency I'm looking for with this is not like the adhesive which I'll describe as peanut butter I'm looking for something a lot looser and a lot more workable so this time very much aiming for melting ice cream so with the grout mixed it's a bit like they sell on the films wipe on and wipe off my first pass is actually forcing the grout into each one of these lines to make sure it's fully filled with grout then I want to take off the excess with a diagonal motion which means that the edge of my float doesn't end up getting caught in any of these and forcing the grout out you want to be using that diagonal to take off as much material as possible and I don't think there's anything wrong with concentrating on each grout line as long as you work quickly because you haven't got too much time for this you can't really do it tile by tile you've got to be working over a large area doesn't want to break too long before taking off the excess because that's going to be a real problem if you leave it on too long so now I need to try to take off as much as possible just check the joints as I go along foreign as I remove the excess I'm looking for areas I've missed which at this point are easy to fill with a little bit more material so that's just about as much as I can get off with the float so I use a well rung out sponge to continue to remove the grout from the face of the tiles without pushing it too hard into the grout lines just so I get off the majority of the grout from the surface at this stage so I've just left this five minutes it's amazing how quickly it gains strength so I think I'm ready for the next cleaning session so I'm going to use a sponge again maybe a little bit more water this time but I'm going to keep changing the water so it's nice and clean and I want to get off all of that film and all of that grout that's sitting on the surface of the tile before it sets with the grout now gain in strength I can be a little bit more robust with the cleaning while washing the sponge out regularly in clean water to help remove any of the grout from it so I don't just keep spreading it around in circles and then finally you can polish your tiles I'm just using a paper towel here but you can use a cloth or a Duster or whatever and I would recommend doing that now to Perfection because anything that's left on the surface is progressively getting harder so if you leave it for tomorrow or the day after it's just harder and harder to do so do it straight away and it means also you can see your final Masterpiece and that I am very happy with I hope you've enjoyed this video and it's going to be useful for when you grout your tiles and I will see you in the next video thank you
