so i'm in the middle of nowhere trying to get out somewhere flat to do a review and uh update on my luncheon for some reason somewhere bloke is standing about 20 feet away from me just watching thanks love performing in front of an audience [Music] hi youtube welcome back to the channel um today i'm going to be doing a um setup of the landscape one just to show you the optimum you go away wait whole field to walk in you're going to come over here on your phone seriously an entire field i'm filming he walks past and says hello whilst on the phone what is wrong with people take25 hello youtube welcome back to the channel um today i'm going to be doing an overview of valencian one um basically showing you the optimal way to set it up to give you the best space inside and the most taught pitch along with that a few little mods that i've done along the way over the last year that hopefully will improve it or has improved it and might help you out with your choice if you go for a lantern one okay so if you've already got a lens in one you might have a footprint if you haven't i'd seriously recommend getting one there's several reasons why you should the obvious is that it protects the bottom of your tent so if there's any sharp twigs or sticks it's gonna give you an extra barrier to stop it from bursting through the bathtub floor of your tent but there's other little ones that you may not realize so one day like today the ground is wet but there's no rain pitch up your tent the tent doesn't go wet when you pack it away the bottom soaking so that way you can pack away basically a fully dry tent and you've only got to pack away a wet ground sheet so it's the footprint underneath it gets wet and it's easy to dry out so that helps a lot further on the list is setting up the tent initially if you sent this set this footprint out correctly nice and taut flat then it is the basis of setting the tent up once you've got this footprint out perfect which is easy to do takes two seconds then the tent will follow suit so when you're first putting up a landscape it can be a bit awkward when you get good at it it's fine but you may find you're always adjusting the corners moving the pegs about but if the ground sheet and the footprint rather is set out correctly in the first place then that lays out a perfect footprint for the tent simple as that another little addition is it's not a freestanding tin so when you pitch it up and you find you're on a slight bit of a you know a slope or the ground's a bit bumpy or you're not facing the right way if you've got a freestanding tent you set it up and then you just jiggle it about move it around to wherever you want all good but with the landshane you can't do that so setting out the footprint that takes two minutes set it out lay down on it see what it's like you may not see a slope but when you're laying on it you'll feel it if you're sliding one way or backwards and forwards so that way it's easy to just pick up move to a slightly different spot and then your tent is going to be set up perfect so when you attach the tin the guidelines that come from the tent loosen them as far as you possibly can i always leave these loose from when i pack up the last time um from a previous camp so the tent is always very loose the guidelines are always very loose and it allows a lot of extra space then a length to get it onto the 10 peg the bathtub the floor comes with a string the same as this ground sheet floor which is useless so i've replaced these with a 30 centimetre piece of bungee now that stretch is just perfect gives a nice taut pitch to the base of the tent and means you haven't got to adjust it or mess about so once these are set nice and loose next thing to do is get the pole in okay so next up uh we'll be putting the pole in now pretty much everyone uses a trekking pole i don't and there's two reasons for it one i didn't have trekking poles i first got it um but i also wanted to keep it as lightweight as possible i didn't really use trekking poles so i bought from ebay a carbon fiber pole this thing weighs i don't even know it's about 60 odd grams or something it's lighter much lighter than a trekking pole would be um it's 125 centimeters so the only downside to this is it's fixed you can't change the height of it so in differing weathers i do different things and i'll show you that basically it's a 16 millimeter carbon fiber pole with a male point at one end which goes into the hole in the base of the tent now the top of this pole did have a black cap on it i've taken it off um reason being it didn't fit in the mushroom that i bought so this is going to damage the tent it's not big enough and it causes too much pressure on top of the tent it will burst it so you can buy one of these um from backpackinglight.com uk or you can buy them on ebay it's essentially a rebar end so this is what goes on the end of big metal bars on on building sites so people don't go and stab themselves with it um it comes with a pole tube about so long i've cut it right down i've done this in other videos so forgive me if i'm going over things but this is just to show you the total setup this fits on top of my pole that relieves the pressure on the tent works perfectly and there is another reason why i use this because of what i do with the trekking poles and that is what helps to give you additional space inside the tent so let me get this up and i'll show you right random old man number two just came over and made his bee line straight for me so i haven't knows what i was doing always good and now hopefully it's not ruining it but someone's decided to cut some trees down 20 feet away from me pay for this anyway i've got the pole set up now so it's not taut i just tightened the front zipped up the door and that's it so at the moment now i'll show you this is loose but set up roughly straight i've got the pole in the right place up here you'll find that always moves about when you're tightening the edges anyway because you pull each side but i'll tighten down each corner now and that's all i'm going to do and that will leave this perfectly taut i'll start with the back tensioner because that keeps it level stops it from pulling one side or the other a little bit it helps um so when i managed to pull it back out there i didn't really push them in too far because they're just setting up initially but that's it i've done no minor adjustments i just set it up as the footprint was laid out as you can see this is perfectly tight it needs no adjusting whatsoever fairly low to the ground here still with some gap for ventilation obviously i've got the winter winter on it at the moment so you need as much as possible and then the front [Music] is as so now one of the things i have done mentioned it in a previous video is i now have these um can you make more noise over there i now have these uh z-packs metal hooks which um obviously gonna work a lot better than the plastic ones that you get from the landscape now or from three full what i did do though was as you can see on the string parts here i put two metal carabiners so um what i did have was a carabiner on here and i just hooked into those two and that's it that's all you need or just hook it straight into the string loop so you don't have to go with this because these are a nightmare they are incredibly expensive it's only five dollars but the shipping is thirty thirty dollars um another option i have as well is to use these bungee cords to pull the front down lower so i'm gonna show you my next little tip and reason why i set this up the way i do so these end cords the side guy lines are designed to give extra stability in the wind of course but also to pull out the sides so when you attach it into the ground it extends it like so however me being the height that i am could do with a bit of additional support on this so if it can be pulled up and that gives me an extra two to three inches each end and that little bit makes a massive difference for me and i'll show you how i do it so very simple but a great solution i simply wrap the cord around here pull it slightly towards the tent keeping the cord on the handle so it gets grip and then i pull it out and peg it down that one makes it extra tight two you can see the distance that it moves the tent it's a good two to three inches so that gives me extra width inside or extra length inside for me to fit my stupid long body okay so that's it set up that's the mode i generally have it in so we've got my two trekking poles which i do now use for tracking attached to each end the carbon pole in the middle there is another option when there's really bad wind really bad rain in the winter time when this gap here needs to be reduced ideally i've got two options for it so i'll show you what i do right so basically i've disconnected the uh the ram sook clip and i've used an additional peg on these two bungee cords i put down now the bungee cords gives it a bit of flex so in the wind it's not solidly tight and hopefully won't snap cause any damage to it and this also brings the uh vestibule door now down to four inches as opposed to about eight inches that it was before so this makes quite a difference when you do drop this down though you need to adjust the corners so you might have to move them back a bit otherwise the sides sag in completely but it just means it gives you a little bit extra protection in you know really bad wind or driving rain um that you want to be able to cook or be inside the tent and not have as much of the outside extremities getting inside so that works really really well so the final option is replacing the trekking pole at this end with a carbon pole which sits fine in the wind tracking pole inside i've dropped this to 120 centimeters so now going through the tires at the bottom of the door here it's almost touching the ground it's an inch and a half or so away and that's going to give you complete pretty much total coverage from the weather so it's just a few different options that are there little hints and tips that could help your landscape and be that bit better hopefully um and just to really say and show how much i love this tent um it is a great tent it's held up by the wind uh it fits me it's comfy i've been cooking it um and it's done really really well all right guys so i hope you enjoyed the video there's only a short one it's really just to help people who've got landshares to really get themselves a better setup with it to get the lay correctly and also to optimize space with a few little extra hints and tips chucked in i get lots of people ask me on facebook and on youtube know what's the best way to set it up what have you done to it what changes have you made so i thought i'll do this final update so i've done a progression of mods over the last year or so that i've had the uh the landshark and this is like my my final uh final ending for the for the landshare and so i don't think i need to do anything else other than maybe get a lunchtime too so um yeah i hope it's helped you if you're not subscriber hit the subscribe button if you are thanks for watching again and hit the thumbs up if you like the video any comments leave them below and i'll always answer back to you cheers watching guys [Music]
