How to get Richie Rich quickly | Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai | TEDxCRCE

I've been given a very interesting topic to speak on it's all about money you think about this particular subject called money it touches everybody they educated and uneducated the men and the women the children who don't know anything about money to the old man who worries about I did not make money so a topic is going to be how to be rich a rich so let me put my first slide you can help me on the slide please slide please okay so there you are how many of you see in this particular cat cartoon character was his name now why do you think he is called Richie Rich he was very rich okay born with a silver spoon okay what else ah how many read his comics seen his movies very interesting character of course he was born rich his father is a rich person but what's very important is that he's a great human being he actually is very respected by his friends and it takes care of the people who are not so rich he's out there to help them so when you look at this particular person Richie Rich he may not be necessarily the richest man in the world but he is a Richie Rich there are many things about being rich that unfortunately cannot be understood only financially I met so many people in my life but you know they're full of life and when you go in front of them sit with them you get come back so charged and you feel you wow there's so much to life and these people make you richer with their experience what I'm going to do is to keep a presentation very simple with only five points that I have understood about richness in my field I have worked upon a great person and his ideas about wealth his name is channel Kia who wrote a great book a magnum opus in the 4th century BC called the cow Tania's arthashastra arthashastra is a Sanskrit word which combines two words Arthur and Sjostrom what is Arthur wealth Shastra scripture unfortunately you know in India when you talk about wealth money finance we are having a feeling of guilt around it we don't like to openly discuss about it and we always say you know Indian philosophy is all about the other world what am i Kiowa pole origin but here is one man who believes that we have to talk about wealth openly it's a book that has looked upon money finance from various dimensions the arthashastra is a kind of a book that talks about human psychology from a different dimension so having studied and trying to dwell upon the ideas of wealth in the arthashastra I can tell you wealth or if you want to be rich rich the first thing that you can do to become one is use your intelligence intelligence is something which is a gift only to human species I am not telling that the other species of the world are not intelligent but they have limited intelligence look at the honeybee building a honeycomb thousands of years ago it was the same design same model and continues look at human beings generation to generation it has evolved so the way my father built a house and the way I will build will be different and so on in the education field we call it adding on to the world of knowledge every person builds on something called as intelligence from the previous generations and as a parent I can tell you and every parent can tell you when you look at your children you feel oh they are more intelligent than us I think my parents also felt that and genetically it has been proven that intelligence get passed on to your next generation through your genes but the children will make it better and today intelligence can be mapped financially look at the concept of IPR intellectual property rights the richest people in the world or the richest companies in the world are not necessarily the ones who are lots of assets Lange or in the olden days cows and maybe some cattle today the biggest software companies pharma companies what are they actually owning it's IPR intellectual property rights and the best part is that you can own an idea develop that idea and go on to become another richest man in the world but the interesting part about is that intelligence is not just about thinking out of the box sometimes it's also questioning is there a box use your intelligence optimum in the arthashastra there is a concept where on weak shaky on the cheeki means the science of thinking does our education system use only one part of our intelligence which is by halting and reproducing or is it also good creativity and innovation so first part of being rich is use your intellect to the optimum level let me tell you education can enhance it but doesn't guarantee it that doesn't mean you should not get educated you should so the quality of having the cutting edge of intelligence is education go and get the best education but use your intellect properly okay second part of being rich is to have a philosophy in life philosophy absolutely every person who is born has got some ideas and we are being from the department of philosophy in the mumbai university our teachers always teachers everybody is a philosopher even it's a beggar on the road he's a philosopher you know why because he thinks he's got some food in philosophy it's not about right or wrong whether you agree or not agree what very important is that when you build your wealth it should be based on certain value system that you believe in look at certain value system that you believe in and let me also make this point of Steve Jobs he said towards the end of his life I would prayed all my wealth that I have created for one afternoon with Socrates what does it mean one of the most richest man still wants to have those answers which is philosophical in dimension and the world is full of philosophers if you look at the Western world we have people like Socrates and Plato and Aristotle Africa India it's a land of philosophers and saints and sages right so right from the autumn Buddha Adi Shankaracharya to Mahavira or latest Mahatma Gandhi you know being in the field of leadership I can tell you this that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy is accepted as one of the most unique philosophies of the world we may or may not agree as Indians because for us I am say is a normal thing right how can you bring down a complete British Empire based on certain concept called non-violence Wow that's a philosophy it's important to have a very clear system of how you build your wealth based on philosophy the underworld dons the Mafia's also create wealth right but then they have a different philosophy that's why the third part of being richer which is equally important let's character some of West's teachers have always told me the test of a man is about his integrity the ability to stand there in spite of all the problems you'll read the media's uses across the globe some of the most powerful men they fall isn't he to the fall they fall on this particular thing called character you have lots of money but the fact that finally your character matters a lot across the globe a study has revealed that 62% of the businesses that are being done actually are family-owned businesses not necessarily nice corporate world they have lot of Indian communities and so I cross the globe there are family-owned businesses now it's a very interesting fact that when family-owned businesses go through financial problems you know how they make money how they raise money they don't have been necessary go to bank they're just left a phone call and say hello I require money and they can create wealth that's the goodwill they have sometimes your bank may not consider you creditworthy but a community does so what's really essential is that this person is a man of values in the Ramayana it is a very beautiful thing Raghu cool arethe the cidade chili IE prana ji / virgin and Ajay what does it mean I stand for my world and if you know this man stand for his word money follows there is another beautiful dimension that Swami Vivekananda used to speak on he says in India wealth is symbolically given a divine form of Goddess Lakshmi interest English is married to Narayana Vishnu and Vishnu is representing knowledge without knowledge when Lakshmi will not come to you follow my analogy will come but if you look at only Lakshmi not and I will get angry that's character food social richness wealth has got a social dimension nobody can create wealth in isolation you sit over there and create wealth no no no wealth comes from the society and has to finally go back to the society if you study rich man you will realize they have understood one social problem and they worked on that they work around that and found the solution so let's look at Henry Ford many years ago he looked at a problem that the society may be the society did not know it's a problem but he saw that in the society as a requirement of cars the first t model and become a mass game look at the IT industry we are looking at something which is in the society it's important to make sure you never create wealth in isolation so there are these people who say I am working in IIT I'm sitting on my computer I can create wealth but even if you are sitting on a computer in isolation please understand the money has to be paid by somebody else with the power of the society the transactions is also done by somebody else therefore the social dimension is equally important now you may be wondering I am giving you all this philosophy on what about the real finance because the fifth dimension of wealth is also financial which charnok has spoken a lot about you have all these but you don't have money in your bank you need to have the financial acumen to actually make money which you say the real money the green money in your bank account but again there are stages of creating wealth according to China your stages of wealth he says there are four stages of wealth the first one is called wealth identification the second is called wealth creation the third is called wealth management and the fourth is called wealth distribution so first one well identification whenever you want to create money financially also try to identify where the money's so if you look in the stock markets let's say all people you know keep looking at which is the next company which is doing well so you keep looking out identify other important thing is like going to dig a well and take out water but you need to do your research well to find out is there a potential of water below this particular piece of land identifying wealth is equally important before you start creating the wealth the real wealth is not necessary only outside it can be inside also your talent lot of people have identified the inner wealth of a talent or an idea and they have created wealth around you look at all the sportsmen the artists the create you guys so they have created wealth from inside but knowing this there is an opportunity does it make you wealthy no therefore the second step is after wealth identification wealth creation which means you have to dig the gold it actually grow there drill and take out the water and that's the most difficult part lot of people have ideas this is where we'll come from but when it comes to hard-working they don't want to do that they become consultant to others others make money on your ideas so the first stage is identifying in the second stage is wealth creation now so a rich businessman he was asked o you became rich overnight and this rich business my looked at him and said yeah I became rich overnight but the night was too long we don't look at the difficult things that people go through okay good part so you created well there lots of money but don't be stupid good times may not last first two stages you have to go behind money the remaining two stages money comes behind you so you know you're lucky but that's where he says manage your wealth invest in the right places save for the rainy days you never know have seen lot of this people in the Bollywood industry they come and they feel the ha they achieved everything with one film and they start buying houses spending a lot of money on cars and the and next movie gone third movie gone no on superstar superstar status gone and they're back to square one so you need to manage wealth and after you are managed well for yourself of course the fourth one wealth distribution go and give back to the society it came from that it has to go back there but before you give to others also make sure that you save it for yourself so here is my final question when is the right time to start giving money to others you know should I make myself safe first and then give the people the remaining wealth of mine and all religions across the globe have told one thing called charity charity begins at home it's not how much money you can give it's whether you have an attitude of giving so they say some people have a certain percentage numbers also for example they say 10% of your income should go back into charity some people say yeah harsh of tea as per your capacity but the idea is that even you become rich have the habit of at least start giving it could be one rupee ten rupee ten person I do not know what because if you don't know to distribute wealth as an attitude even then you have money you will not give because danger of being a rich rich person is you can become greedy after all your needs have been fulfilled develop that attitude in a small way that's for you to give back to society in some way or the other I am going to find up by talking about to Tatas who have been in sparing my life Tata the first one GID Tata when jRD Tata was the chairman he interestingly lived in an era when India was a developing economy no not really the so called richie-rich India or a powerful India somebody asked him do you want India to be a superpower you know that was a great dream for India at that particular time you know what he said no I want India to be a happy country even India to be a superpower know I wanted to be a happy country I think our generation should redefine it and say I want India to be a superpower and a happy country why can't we have both the world's and the second Tata is still alive Ratan Tata I was reading about him he doesn't feature in the Forbes list but if you put all his well together especially all that he gives he's the most richest man in the world not on paper but yes he's got the wealth so friends when you go back to become rich rich the Indian Way there are two things number one the richness is outside and also inside it's also material and also spiritual and you know what Chanakya says who is a Richie Rich man he is called according to arthashastra raja rishi beautiful combination raja like wow royal leave life king size but Rishi from inside philosopher unattached to the wealth that is created because he believes it's finally he who gives thank you so much
