First, let's talk about what I went through... At first, I also had a hard time getting clients, And normally, I have prepared this template cover letter in Word document. I edit the information, depending on the job application I'm going to send it for. Before with Odesk, When I applied as a Virtual assistant, I'm going to include, "I'm looking for a Virtual Assistant position", and then the rest is covered on the template. Afterwards, I'm going to submit it, and it's as simple as that. I don't do much of the editing, and every time I apply, I send it as copy-paste, to avoid the hassle, and that's my way of thinking before. As I keep on doing that, I noticed that there's no progress, I've applied numerous times and whenever there's a response or a notification on my Odesk account, It's always declined or rejected.πŸ˜… Maybe it appeared as a Spam message or Spam application, I realized that it didn't work out for me. I think something is wrong, because my applications are always caught. I assessed myself, and this is how I get my first client. I changed my strategy.πŸ˜‰ I do research, and then I read and ask questions, etc. At first, I thought that it's enough if I am familiar with Data entry, or even web research. I thought that it's sufficient enough to put in my cover letter, and so I made one. When I did my research and ask questions from friends who have online jobs, they gave me advices,❀️ I watched guides and tutorials from YouTube, Online research is your best friend,🀝 Since not all people will share what they have learned from working online. I'm not sure if there are courses offered before, But I began to explore for myself, so I can learn about the online world. I asked myself, assessing what else is missing? I know, I prepared my cover letter, so what else is missing? That's when I started to assess the value of my hard work. How can I offer my value as a Virtual assistant to the clients? Is there a value when I share my skills with them? How can it help them? That's what I kept in mind at that time. Before, I don't mind if I have or don't have the skills, as long as the capabilities I have that time already fit the job I'm applying for. That's what I've been telling myself, but I know something is missing, and I think it's the value. I realized that whatever skills you have, shouldn't be enough. You have to add value, so clients will understand that you know that job you're applying for. Add value so clients will have a good impression that you know what you are doing. This applicant clearly understand the job he or she is seeking, the way he or she speaks means they have an idea about the job. Clients could feel if an applicant is sincere in his interest in the job. Do you know what I did? First, I no longer send template cover letters. I stopped doing that.πŸ‘πŸ˜‰ So, instead of passing cover letter templates, I read the job description completely. Some clients provide hidden codes, like "Paste the word, PURPLE",πŸ’œ at the beginning of the sentence. Others do it as the instructions stated. I disregard it before as long as I've submitted my application.πŸ˜…πŸ€¦ I don't usually read the job description because I was too lazy to look at it...πŸ˜…πŸ€¦ I realized I have to read it completely, and check if there are hidden code or hidden gemsπŸ’Ž required by the client or in their job description. I checked for important details as well, if there's a website mentioned, or a link on the actual job description, Sometimes there's a link to redirect you to their business page where the details of the job are posted. So, this time around, I made sure I check if there's a website link,πŸ‘Œ It is important because as soon as you open it, You'll be able to check their website, the nature of their business, the client's task, as well as the products and services it offers. From there, you will have a better understanding of the company you're applying for.πŸ˜€ If you're applying for a virtual assistant, Maybe you'll think of several tasks you can do for a client. If the client is a coach, then you'll be his VA if you're gonna get hired, and these are the possible tasks that I will do for him. You will have an idea of what will be your tasks, and to what it is related to as a virtual assistant of this client, or company. And then from there, I can begin creating my cover letter. It can be a long process for you, but if this is done constantly, If you keep on sending job applications, for example, You will get a grasp of creating your cover letter. Once you're hired, You will determine that your job research are somehow related; Web research, data entry, and virtual assistant are all part of your task. You should understand the nature of their job so it will be easy for you to make the necessary adjustments on the job you are seeking. If you're applying for a virtual assistant, but you're uninterested in their business, you have to perceive what will happen next once you get hired; because if you'll be interviewed by the client but you don't fully understand the job you're applying for, of course, you will be declined. So with it, I shall begin creating my personalized cover letter. When we say the personalized cover letter, I will make the clients feel that I understand the needs of the company, and I can provide a proper task with my skills, I am of great help to the company, Let me give you an example, I'm going to read it... If I'm applying for a virtual assistant position, to give you an idea, "I see that you need a virtual assistant who can schedule your appointments with your clients, who can update and upload your blogs on your website, as well as manage your social media accounts. I would like to help you. I am a beginner, yet, I have researched about it, and practiced it myself, so that I will be ready to help you. If there are things I need to learn more, I'll be more than happy to do it..."πŸ˜‰ So, that's the idea of the cover letter I'll be making. This is not a template, This is not a copy-paste letter, because if that's the case, you just did the same thing with template cover letter, With this example, I'm letting the client know that I have an idea on their job posting, and I researched it as a beginner, I have prepared myself for this job. If you're going to hire me, I am ready. If there's still some things I need to learn then, I'm going to study so I know how to help you. This is the approach I'm doing until now and most of the time, I get the job.πŸ™ŒπŸ€ So, let's talk about what NOT to do.πŸ™… I'm going to share 3 tips for things you shouldn't do. Again, this is based on my opinion. It could be different from anyone else but this works for me. Before we proceed with this discussion, If you have reached this part of our video, Make sure to write down the word, or sentence, I WILL GET CLIENTS✍️ Of course, with S!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘Œ So I would know if you like our topic or discussion for today. If you want more related topics, please comment down below, I can get clients!πŸ™Œ Going back on what NOT to do, First, like what I said, As much as possible, DO NOT send a template cover letter. I did that once, and it didn't work. If you do the same thing, and still hasn't worked, of course, what's the sense of continuously doing the same thing? Might as well create a personalized cover letter. This strategy may also work for you. Make sure to add value to your personalized cover letter. Value. Value. Value. If there's no value, you're just talking like a robot, it won't make any sense if the clients don't feel that you would like to help them. It would be contradictory if you will not show any importance. Automatically, you'll be declined. Second, DON'T over brag.πŸ™… Do not exaggerate yourself.πŸ™… Some people do that, I do the same thing before, "I'm a graduate of this... "I know of this..." "I have these skills..." You talk boastingly about yourself that you didn't focus on the client's needs. What do they require? You ignored the tasks they require because you're only thinking of your accomplishments "I know this..." "I know that..." "I can help you because of my skill set..." πŸ˜“πŸ˜“πŸ˜“ Don't over brag. Focus on the client's needs, on how you can help, on how you can add value, and that matters the most. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ™ƒ Last is Don't be complacent.πŸ™… Avoid being too pleased with yourself.πŸ™… You may be a beginner or a tenured freelancer like me, Don't be too complacent.πŸ™… Even for web research or data entry, You never know if they need 85 wpm (Words Per Minute) instead of 35 wpm. If your application says, "I can type 35 wpm..." but the client requires 85 wpm; things like that. Keep on improving yourself.πŸ‘πŸ˜Š If you're applying as a virtual assistant, You should think of adding more skills like appointment setting, email marketing, etc. By the way, we have videos on Email marketing that you can watch and practice if you're applying as a virtual assistant, If you want to be an independent email marketer or marketing automation like me, then practice, as it will add to your skillset. If there are things you want to learn, that can add to your skills to gain more confidence, as well as your self-esteem.πŸ’‘ If that happens, there is a bigger chance for you to get hired like us who have been in the industry for a long time. Again, upscale and keep growing. And remember, more learning + more value = more opportunities and clients to get.πŸ‘Œ Always take note of that.βœ”οΈ By the way MomShees, I would like to inform you that we have another YouTube channel where we can share our lifestyle as homebased moms!😘 Things like cookingπŸ₯˜, fitness,πŸ‹οΈ gardening,🌿🌱 and everything else that talks about the life of a homebased mom.πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜‰ This channel talks about guides and tips about online freelancing, work from home, while the other one talks about our lifestyle as homebased moms.πŸ‘πŸ™‹ If you want to watch it, you may check the links on the description box so you can get to the other channel.
