This is where I store the Steam Engine squeaky door sounds like guineafoul birds we use a Push-Pull bar to tow the engine This is a 3/4 scale engine built off of a 65hp Case did you turn the captions on? Let me know in the comments. The push pull bar is key We are taking the Engine to a water source this is the water inlet to fill up the boiler flushing some water through the Mud Legs This is a Hand Hole Plate New gasket for the Hand Hole Plate We like to change the gasket before we install the Plates back into the Engine Metric adjustable wrench/hammer This area is called the Smoke Box Inserting the Hand Hole Plate into the front Hand Hole Getting the plate centered is very important so the gasket does not blow out Like a glove! This is the rear Hand Hole You can hear the water filling up the boiler You can hear it here too Pulling the sightglass protectors off wiping off the Sightglass so we can see the water level clearly now it's ready for battle once again the Flue's need cleaned everytime before you fire up The brush runs all the way back to the firebox they fill up with soot and ash These holes are called Flue Pipes, and you must clean all of them Them 20's? nah, they 10's This is seeing the Flue's from inside of the Fire Box checking the glass for water you can see the water level rising inside The Flue's are cleaned and the water level is rising water has reached the sightglass valve level You can see the water rising over the top of the Firebox water now can be seen in the Sightglass DO NOT DROP THIS INSIDE! :-) This one is tricky. Plate first, then slip the gasket in *Inspecting* 1/4 turn before it snaps off Thanks big dog cleaning the ashes out of the firebox Filling the firebox with wood to heat the boiler Boiling Water inside turns to pressurized steam Steam powers against a piston and thats how it's powered strawberry Kool-Aid (no road tax) ^ Faster than rubbing sticks together ouch the fire will boil the water to create pressurized steam open the damper door melting away fingertips *Peaceful opening the front damper to clean out the Ash Pan under the firebox filling the two 50 gallon water bunkers Closing all of the valves and tri-cocks metric crescent wrench again 0 psi on the gauge Smokey (Don't breathe this) Water from the bunkers is used to inject into the boiler when its under pressure this is the bunker water level indicator gloves would be nice takes a lot of wood to bring the water to a boil thanks Justin for the fire poker! this is the grease cup for the Crank Disk Pin fill with chocolate pudding wipe off old mess make new mess still zero adding Steam Oil to automatic drip oiler filling Oiler with more steam oil adding oil to system manually the gauge needle has lifted off of zero opening the blower hear it? the blower shoots steam up the stack to pull a draft and making a hotter fire notice its pulling the smoke up gloves, smart man! she's hungry for more wood Greasing the drive axle showing about 12 psi will it whistle? music to my ears the water pump pulls water from the bunkers and forces it into the boiler incase the injectors fail lets test it by closing the valves this is the water pump the steam is a wet steam due to not having a lot of heat and pressure yet the steam from the exhaust also helps pull draft in the fire box keep these open while the steam is wet I hand painted all of the pin striping the term Balls Out comes from this, the Steam Governor keep an eye on the boiler water level through the sight glass the blower is really pulling a draft now! let me know what you think about the hand painted pin striping in the comments below! 45 psi, it wont be long now clutch engement 55 psi lets try injecting some water into the boiler hear that? it worked! this is the low pressure injector shut off the steam then shut off the high quality H2O feeding time 80 psi almost party time installed new rubber treads this year Im really digging on the pin stripe 125 psi the Pop-Off Valve should be getting excited soon turn on the blower to generate more heat 3.. 2.. 1.. 0 did you jump? I did when i was recording lol the Pop-Off valve was actually open for about 45 seconds Did you know that the whistle meant many different things, depending on how it was blown? engaging the clutch two long whistles = moving forward backing up to a wood pile, she's hungry this is some scrap wood from the sawmill it will burn now that we have a full head of steam, we can regulate the fire/temp and use less wood we have decided to back down the hill Whoa Mule! Backing down the hill keeps the water over the top of the firebox The top of the firebox is called the Crownsheet no water on the crownsheet is not good. EXPLOSION and DEATH (Results may vary) there are 3 levers the one on the left is the reveser the middle one is the throttle and the right is the clutch Fancy Engineer's Hat ^ getting ready to ascend a decent hill you can hear the engine start to chug the govenor is about to go balls out slowing her down a bit getting pretty windy in front of the historic barn Party Time the building on the right is the Feature Tractor Building the red building to the left houses a few big stationary engines Letting anyone know that were crossing a crossroad There are several buildings on this path, including a small engine shed, blacksmith shop, and some tractor clubs too Such as Case, John Deere, Oliver, and Allis Chalmers The steering is turned by Log Chains The chains have springs, and you can hear the steering chain springs squeak Hey wait up! I'll take 'er from here Pal Fun fact: 1 gallon of water turns into over 1600 gallons of steam That's why its pretty efficient and also explosive this is how much water we used out of the bunkers today I think around 30 gallons Time to let the fire go out and steam down Look how wet the steam is again The pourpose of a governor is to help regulate engine speed Time to go balls out back to about 45 psi Running the blower to help burn the fire out Did you stay until the end? Let me know in the comments 10 psi - Its been a good day Fire's just about out Thanks to Ashton for helping Engineer this beast today Special thanks to Justin, Ashton, Wyatt, Henry, Ashley, Eddie Brubaker, Paul and Bill LePage. Its been a fun year
